osbert parsley[edit]

Amitchell125, i had a few questions regarding this blurb for this article.

  • was this reversion done in error? i admittedly cannot figure out what was wrong with the edit, as i try to only make what i believe are uncontroversial edits to tfa blurbs, preferring to address fac nominators directly regarding issues that may be less clear (such as the two points below). many similar changes are routinely made to tfa blurbs to conform each to the current standard. aside from the routine changes, i had also reworded one sentence because i believe it was missing a main verb, which seems like a particularly obvious error. (the fragment had been part of a longer sentence in the article lead.) if your reversion was, in fact, deliberate, please let me know your reasoning, so that i may be more aware of similar issues in the future.
  • is "Spes Nostra" being used as a title, or only as an incipit? if the latter, then i believe the 'N' should not be capitalized, as per mos:incipit, to conform with the capitalization used in "Conserva me, domine", as seen earlier in the blurb. the article appears to be inconsistent regarding how it should be capitalized. the description in the cited british library source does not seem to mention the motet, though the diamm entry cited elsewhere in the article does mention it, and does not capitalize the 'n'.
  • is the "domine" in "Conserva me, domine" being used as either a proper name referencing a deity, or a title doing the same? if so, then i believe the 'd' should be capitalized, as per mos:god, even though sentence case is being used. the aforementioned diamm entry capitalizes the 'D', though the cited odnb entry does not. (incidentally, the article also mentions "a hymn Salvator mundi domine" with a minuscule 'd', citing the same diamm entry, though both the diamm and the odnb omit "domine" from the reference to the hymn.)

January songs
happy new year

Thank you today for the article "about the English composer, organist and 'singing man' Osbert Parsley, whose 50-year-long musical career at Norwich Cathedral spanned the reigns of four Tudor monarchs—Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary, and Elizabeth." I am pleased to see a "singing man" exposed prominently! - I began songs, to grow. -- "singing woman" Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:38, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: Thanks, I thought you would spot this article! His music is rather good... Amitchell125 (talk) 08:43, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I was looking forward after I reviewed in the FAC ;) - I mentioned "him" in the Debussy discussion. - I just added my first choir's plans to the "happy new year": quite promising! We - Chor St. Martin - celebrate 50 years in 2023, and 26 of them were with me, beginning with the St Matthew Passion. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:31, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Now that all the points raised by you in the review of Adullam have been addressed (see here), in an effort to make the article worthy of GA status, is it necessary for me to re-nominate the article for GA status, or is this an automatic, ongoing process?Davidbena (talk) 19:06, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Davidbena:, that's right, the article needs to be re-nominated. I do not reassess an article that I have failed, but I'm sure when you re-nominate it, it will find another reviewer before too long. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:11, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

K2-18b[edit]

Greetings,

can I ask you to take a quick glance at K2-18b to see if some of the problems you noted in the GAN have been resolved? I've taken a stab at improving the linking, prose and footnoting some terms that weren't explained, but I am not sure where on the spectrum "only need some minor work"-"needs a total rewrite still" it falls. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:09, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Hi there, it's considered the job of the next reviewer to check that the previous GAN comments are addressed (WP:GAFAIL), so I wouldn't usually be involved in giving you the feedback you have asked for. However, I had a quick look, and it appears some of the easier-to-sort comments for the lead section have not yet been addressed.
A good reviewer will carefully check that all the previous GAN comments have all been addressed, and will quick fail the article if they haven't been, so it's worth you spending time on GA1 before re-nominating it. Amitchell125 (talk) 09:28, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I guess my thing is I don't agree with some of the proposed fixes e.g I don't think that mass requires a link per WP:OVERLINK. I guess that's more an issue with the GA template though - I don't see a place for a nominator to comment on a quickfailed item. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:38, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, mass is linked in the infobox and so I would link it elsewhere, but my point is that the GA1 review is now considered out of my hands. Have you considered seeking a second opinion for the review? Amitchell125 (talk) 09:43, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, because I only disagree with one or two points, not with the entire review. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I would go through with my changes if you want to re-nominate, then discuss them at some point with the the next reviewer, with a review to reverting any you are both not happy about. Good luck! Amitchell125 (talk) 17:43, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

julian of norwich[edit]

Amitchell125, i had a quick question regarding this article and the associated blurb. how do we know that julian preferred to write anonymously? the blurb and article lead both mention this, though i was admittedly unable to find mention of this in the article body, so i am not sure which source asserted this. the only known surviving work of hers, revelations of divine love, does not appear to have been published anonymously, and i imagine that it would have likely been difficult for her to hide her authorship of the text if she had preferred to write anonymously. it is possible that she had written many other texts and released them anonymously, but the featured article did not give me that impression. dying (talk) 18:17, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Julian's writings were unpublished in her lifetime. None of the surviving manuscripts of her writings, all of which are copies produced by scribes, mention her name, other that one where the scribe has made his/her own note of the identity of the author. Julian definitely wrote anonymously, in that she never revealed her name. In addition, Revelations was published many years after her death, using the name she was known by when alive, but which may not have been her actual name. Hope this helps. Amitchell125 (talk) 18:26, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
oh, that is interesting. come to think of it, i have also written a good number of things that have never been published and do not have my name on them, but admittedly, it had not previously occurred to me that i could be described as someone who preferred to write anonymously. thanks for the insight! dying (talk) 01:02, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

my story today
Thank you today for the article, introduced (in 2021): "This article is about Julian, one of England's most important mystics. In May 1373 Julian completely recovered from a serious illness that had caused her to have revelations (or shewings), all of which she went on to describe in detail. Her writings are now published as Revelations of Divine Love, the earliest known book in English to be written by a woman. I would be great if her article was to be promoted before the 650th anniversary of her revelations, in 2023."! And it happened! - On a smaller scale: yesterday and the day before I sang an unusual concert, in ecumenical and international collaboration, the first day with a large group of private company listening, and the second day the chance to talk to the composer afterwards who praised the performance but was quite critical of his piece ;) - Congratulations also to the new FA below! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:29, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: Many thanks, and Happy Julian of Norwich Day! Amitchell125 (talk) 06:01, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just uploaded the pic of three conductors talking, the left is my conductor, in the middle the composer, and right a former conductor (with my other choir). The church article has two more pics of the occasion, one with the soloists and conductors, one with the composer acknowledging the performers in front of a full-house standing ovation - this was the first concert after the pandemic, postponed since 2020 when the city-partnership to Belgium was 50 years old. If you have a chance to hear Helena Rüegg play bandoneon take it, - such an inspiration! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:30, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DeepStateMap.Live fixes[edit]

Hello @Amitchell125, I hope you're doing well. I see last week you placed two maintenance tags (primary and user generated) on an article I started a while back DeepStateMap.Live. While I have since removed the primary references tag after removing a particularly primary-cited sub-section (see my edit description for more) I am a little unsure on what you want me to do to remove the second tag, as I don't know which citations you found to be user-generated. If you could help me out with this, I would really appreciate it, as I am trying to get the article to GA status, and any input at all would be helpful 🙂 Thanks again, and sorry for how long it took for me to respond, I was camping last week. Cheers! Johnson524 (Talk!) 18:28, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnson524: Hi, Telegram is used as a source in Refs 1/2/3/4/7 in the Primary section, and Ref 2 in the Secondary section. Why is it a reliable source, if it is user-generated (see here)? This also true for Facebook.(Sec. Ref 27). and Twitter (Sec. Refs12/24/26).
In addition, YouTube cannot be used as a source (Sec. Refs13/19/20/21/22/30) because of copyright issues (WP:ELNEVER).
A useful guide is Wikipedia:Verifiability, which discusses how books, magazines, and newspapers are the best sources to use for citations. I would withdraw your nomination, and only renominate the article when the citations issue is sorted (at present the article can be quick-failed (WP:GAFAIL) because of the these issues). Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 20:12, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Amitchell125, thank you for your detailed response, and I'm sorry responding with a bit of delay. To try to go over each citation individually:
- P1: Is used only to record the date of their first Telegram post (no claims used)
- P2: Is used to show DeepState has talked about COVID-19 (no claims used)
- P3, P4: Non-controversial primary claims about the creation of their map, should be fine per WP:ABOUTSELF
- P7: Primary claim on the use of their donations. I can delete this one if need be, as it is not an entirely non-controversial claim I guess  ‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ㅤ
- S2: Made one non-controversial claim, but was on Telegram and was not a primary source, so I have since removed it
- Every Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube: Is used to show these organizations have used the map before (no claims at all used, solely included for citing the pictures/video frames where the map is in displayed)
I have put a check beside those citations I believe still check out with WP:ABOUTSELF/WP:SOCIALMEDIA, or some other policy for their no-claims-made use, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you again for taking the time to help me with this, I am reluctant to delist the article for GA review, as it has been in the queue for over two months now, and I would prefer not to restart the process. Thta being said, if I am incorrect in my beliefs on the fair use of the majority these citations, I will do so to clean-up the page. Cheers! Johnson524 (Talk!) 20:52, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think cleanup tags are still an issue. There don't seem to be *any* secondary sources in the "Media attention and use" section. Why is it WP:DUE to list any organization that has ever referred to the map? The article needs to focus on secondary source coverage. (t · c) buidhe 15:17, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Flight International Magazine 1935-06-27-pdf 0075.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable.
