Wiry [ˈvirɨ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Marcinowice, within Świdnica County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.[1] It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) east of Marcinowice, 16 km (10 mi) east of Świdnica, and 42 km (26 mi) south-west of the regional capital Wrocław.

History[edit]

When it was part of medieval Piast-ruled Poland, Wiry was mentioned in 1193 as an endowment of the Canons Regular Monastery in Wrocław.[2] The name of the village is of Polish origin and comes from the old Polish word wir.[3]
