Request for Thoughts of Yunshui on the role of Civility and the use of WP:UNDUE

Yunshui

I am responding to a comment which you made on Borderlands1920 (talk) 15:22, 14 February 2014 (UTC) regarding CIVILITY. There I posed some questions for you as to the relationship of CIVILITY to the proper use of UNDUE. Your thoughts on this issue would be very helpful. My apologies for incorrectly spelling your name in that post.

In general does the use of UNDUE without a more detailed explanation and openness to discussion by the user of UNDUE constitute acceptable CIVILITY within Wikipedia. For the definition of CIVILITY I would like to suggest the following as "formal politeness and courtesy in behavior and speech". The point I am raising is whether-from your perspective-- the "behavior" of "failure to provide a more detailed explanation for the use of the UNDUE and willingness to engage in discussion when requested" constitutes a breach of Civility within the context of Wikipedia ?

I notice that you place a premium on CIVILITY and I would hope that you might have thought about the interactions of CIVILITY and the allowed use of WP:UNDUE

Thank you Borderlands1920 (talk) 15:22, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Replied on your talkpage. Yunshui  15:53, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

With all due respect your comment on my talk page does not address the specifics of Civility as it relates to use of WP:Undue. The question here specifically relates to the responsibility of the user of UNDUE to engage in proper dialogue when requested. As was pointed out by Mz7(talk) the proper Wikipedia cycle is edit, undo, discuss. If this is the correct sequence doesn't the "behavioral" failure to discuss when requested represent a breach of CIVILITY. Thank you Borderlands1920 (talk) 16:18, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Take all your complaints about me to WP:ANI....William 16:37, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

The current question is related to the broader issue of CIVILITY}} and its relationship to {{WP:UNDUE and how this is or is not consistent with the Wikipedia principles of edit, undo and discuss. Your thoughts on the "broader question" would be very welcome. Here if acceptable to Yunshui or on my talk page. Thank you Borderlands1920 (talk) 17:19, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Er, there is no particular relationship between civility and undue weight, other than that they are both part of Wikipedia policy. The former is a policy that governs user conduct, and the latter is a policy that governs the content of articles; they're not any more related than any other two Wikipedia policies. Writ Keeper  17:26, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I would say that when making an edit based on WP:UNDUE or another content policy such as WP:NPOV or WP:PEACOCK it can be helpful to explain how the policy applies in the particular situation at hand, and if the edit is challenged or questions, this is usually helpful. But that isn't really a matter of the relation between WP:UNDUE and WP:CIVIL, it is a simply that all edits should be made clear, ideally when made, or else when questioned. When a link is provided as part of an edit summary or on a talk page discussing the edit, others are expected to follow the link and understand the policy, guideline, procedure, or essay being referenced. Deletion of Vaakya Technologies

Hi, we are trying to provide information of the new upcoming Vaakya technology. We are not here to violate on any other terms. Also we are not trying to endorse any kind advertisement or marketing using Wikipedia. We need the new technology information article, so that more people can contribute. Please advice me on how to restore the deleted article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pradeepms76 (talkcontribs) 09:21, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Before I respond to that request, could you please explain who "we" refers to? How many people have access to your account? Yunshui  09:35, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick reply. Let me clarify, We are an R&D organization based out of Bangalore, India. Our R&D focusses on making the "Runtime engine" to make the global development & delivery more easy. This includes deployment on Business enterprise, Hand held devices & the Cloud Platform. The current account is managed by myself(pradeepms76), to create awareness on the new technology. Going forward, this article will be continuously updated by new generation of developers and ISV's ecosystem. I will be happy to clarify, in case if you have any more doubts regarding the credibility. RegardsPradeepms76 (talk) 03:58, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Counter Culture Coffee Deletion

Hi, I am a student who was working on Counter Culture Coffee page and just wanted to let you know that me and several students will be working on it for the next couple weeks. We are in the process of learning how to use Wikipedia and will take it in mind your deletion and try to prevent any kind of advertising. Thanks! Tennisgrl19 (talk) 23:47, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Tennisgrl19. It's worth noting that advertising wasn't the issue with that particular deletion - the deleted article consisted of a single sentence which barely allowed the reader to understand what CCC was, let alone why it was notable enough to be in an encyclopedia. I've no problem with you and your group recreating the page (indeed, I'll help you out if I can), but you'll need to make sure that the new version contains sufficient reliable sources to warrant inclusion. For a shorthand version of the basic requirements, check out Wikipedia's answer to everything. Yunshui  08:20, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Some sources which might be suitable: [1], [2], [3]. It might actually make more sense to write an article about Peter Giuliano, the company's owner, who seems to have received more coverage as a person than his chain has as a business. Yunshui  09:22, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Incidentally, I've just declined another speedy deletion request for the article (though it was borderline; other admins might well have deleted it, and with some justification). Yunshui  09:28, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Interesting. We both seem to have deleted this page, one minute apart, without it having been recreated in between... Peridon (talk) 15:39, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Yes, i saw that... wierd. Incidentally, I believe the sockmaster for these accounts is User:Linensluxor - keep an eye out, would you? Yunshui  15:42, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
If not the master, it's a best mate or employee wishing they didn't work there any more... Peridon (talk) 16:03, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

New sock of one you recently blocked

Hi Yunshui, could you have a look at InstantWikificaton (talk · contribs)? That page, incidentally, really needs protection. Thanks, JNW (talk) 15:31, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Adoption Response

Very much thanks for your response ! In all honesty I do not know where these vandals are cropping up from infact there was one who claimed that he was from my school and he stayed vandalising the page over and over i'd be very happy to accept the adoption request. MikeTheEditor104, how nice to see you again! Or not. Yunshui  19:31, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help find a resolution. The thread is "Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 February 12". Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 16:35, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

That listing has been reverted as block evasion (admitted therein) by blocked user InstantWikificaton. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 16:42, 18 February 2014 (UTC) (current DRN coordinator)
They've relisted and I've closed the dispute as DRN coordinator, but that account, Bojyxifer, also needs to be addressed. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 16:48, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Well that was fun. Bojyxifer now also blocked. Persistent little blighter, isn't he? Yunshui  20:42, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Who is User:CrazyAdminiistrator? You recently blocked someone as a sockpuppet of this person, but I don't see any indication that this person has an account in Wikipedia nor does he have a global account. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:48, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi @Davidwr: - that's actually User:AS92813; I had the wrong sockmaster. I also seem to have misspelled User:CrazyAdmiinistrator... My bad, sorry; I'll go back and fix it. Yunshui  08:37, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
Looks like DoRD's already corrected it. Yunshui  08:38, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Your edit experience

Hi Yunshui: Previously I noticed your interest in neurobiology and new editors. One of my own interests is in neurobiology and artificial intelligence. Recently, I tried to place a new edit on Prometheus (film) which deals with this subject, and which was questioned. Could you glance at this to see if this is a position-of-edit issue on that Page, or if the issue is taking exception to the otherwise un-cited authors of a recently published book about artificial intelligence in Prometheus (film). Any advise or recommendation for an improved location for the new edit there would be appreciated. LawrencePrincipe (talk) 02:33, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

I don't think it's an issue with the source, which looks perfectly acceptable to me - the problem is that the passage you added really doesn't add to a reader's knowledge of the film. A better place for such an addition would be on the Ridley Scott article, but you'd need to rephrase it to be about the subject of the article, not the book, for example:

Artificial intelligence is a unifying theme throughout Ridley Scott's career as a director, particularly in Blade Runner, Alien, and Prometheus.

You could probably expand this, but remember that you're writing about the subject of the article, not the source or its content. Alternatively, if you can locate a few good-quality reviews of the book, you could look at creating an article about the book itself. Yunshui  08:49, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
Your suggestion looked very good and I think your version of the first sentence about Artificial Intelligence is better than mine. I then included the edit in an already existing enumerated list of the Director's main traits listed on the page for Ridley Scott. After this, I then returned to the original Page to read further on in the original Prometheus (film) page and noticed that there was a previously started Android paragraph in the same subsection. My thought was to shorten my edit further, down to 2 sentences, and add the new reference about Artificial Intelligence in Prometheus (film) to the Android paragraph (which does not mention Artificial Intelligence). User:Bend seemed to also like it there and did a further edit. Then, the other editor who reverted it yesterday came back and seemed to label it as semi-literate, and deleted it once more. I am fairly sure the New York publisher of this new book about Ridley Scott and Prometheus is reputable, and that the authors of it are substantial. Am I missing something self-evident, or should me and User:Bend just accept the exclusion of this new book about Ridley Scott and his film Prometheus from the wikipage for Prometheus (film). If you could glace at this and let me know what is best. LawrencePrincipe (talk) 02:08, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Well again, you've written about the book, not about the film/director. Generally speaking, if you're mentioning the content of the source directly then you're writing about the wrong thing. My suggestion above wasn't a rewrite of the first sentence of your proposed edit - it was a complete replacement. A reader who want to know about themes in Ridley Scott's work doesn't need to know that a source makes use of JS Mill in its analysis, or that it makes a connection between Turing and Searle's work, unless there's something resulting from that which directly relates to Scott. There's nothing wrong with saying, "Scott's work uses artificial intelligence as a theme" and citing "Culture and Philosophy..." as the source, but you don't need to elaborate on the finer points of the book's analysis. RE: Foul-mouthed IP

I did see your note at AIV, but I usually like to leave the talkpage unblocked initially just to give them a fair chance at requesting an unblock. When it becomes apparent that isn't going to happen - as in this case - talkpage revocation is only a mouse-click away. Incidentally, RPP would be a pretty slow way to get the talkpage access removed - your best bet would be AIV again (or you could just ask me!). Thanks for keeping a watchful eye out. Yunshui  14:47, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know that you saw my note on AIV. Some users' blocking admins have actually blocked the users without looking at AIV (likely by observing the vandalism themselves), even if the AIV report was filed by another user or a bot. I was thinking that with talk page edits involving poop vandalism (and especially dishonest edit summaries) raised red flags. NHRHS2010 RIP M.H. (1994-2014) 14:55, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Yep, that was me. ID diff: [4]. Yunshui  13:57, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Almost to Welcome to the team. I'm the newest and least experienced tool-admin and want to do things right. Our guide says, "If the user has not stated in their confirmation diff that they have read and agree to comply with the guide and the WMF privacy policy, the user should be asked to confirm this before the account is created for them." As as sysop, i know you have read the privacy policy but please acknowledge having read the Request an account/Guide (even though some of it is out-of-date since the move from toolserver to wmflabs). Green tickY Welcome to the Account Creation team. Your account is active. We're a small but friendly group. If you run into a problem, ask most any team member. A couple more things to do:

 • Join the ACC mailing list as described here. It is another multi-step process to verify identity because of the private data that is occasionally discussed on the list. All ACC tool users must subscribe to the list because notices and policy and procedure changes are sent to the list.
 • Join us on IRC in the channel #wikipedia-en-accounts connect. You'll be taken to an unregistered channel at first. Once again, a channel moderator will have to verify your ID again before you get into the channel.

Cesare Attolini Page

It would appear that a brand page I had been using for research has been deleted, namely that of Cesare Attolini. I did not create the page myself but did check the log as to why it had been deleted. At the time of reading it certainly didn't seem like a blatant attempt to promote the brand but instead a valuable resource for someone like myself and now I am having to resort to pulling info from the brand's website, which is certainly publicity driven and devoid of many of the more impartial details I had been looking for. I would suggest you are a little full hardy with your deleting finger! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.227.148.118 (talk) 14:40, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

You'll find a lot more information on the website than you would have done in the article, especially since the article was no more than a cobbled-together collection of various snippets copied from the company's webpage. At the time of deletion, there was not a single sentence in the entire article that could be considered impartial (again, this is hardly surprising since it was all taken from the company's own website). H. V. Kumar

Hi, Yunshui. Do you remember H. V. Kumar? You have had dealings with the article about him at various times since October 2012, the latest being yesterday, when you deleted the article. The author of the article is under the mistaken impression that I deleted it, and has posted to my talk page asking me to restore it. I have posted a long answer, amongst other things pointing out that I didn't delete it. It is possible that he will now come to you to ask for restoration. If so, you may possibly like to see what I have written about it, which you can see here, in the section "Deleted HVK's article". The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:36, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the advance warning. I concur with your analysis - namely, that after deletion at AFD and subsequent userfication, the article was reposted with no meaningful improvements. Because of that, I'm not about to restore it again, although I've no objection if the author wants to take it to deletion review. Yunshui  11:42, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Blocking

You've recently blocked someone - did you find the block user window different? I'm not getting the full list of reasons. and I've started a thread at VP/T about it. Peridon (talk) 12:23, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

I actually use a script for most of the blocks I do, so I don't often see the block window itself. Let me take a look... Yunshui  12:33, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
As far as I can tell it's the same list as usual, although for some reason it seems to jump to the bottom of the list when the drop-down menu is opened. has someone fiddled with the block reasons, perhaps? Yunshui  12:35, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I'm only getting seven reasons instead of a window and a half (which finished up with the specialised checkuserblock below the spamublock I use so often - I nearly blocked someone checkuser when that first appeared as I just went for the bottom reason as usual...). Peridon (talk) 12:39, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I've tried looking at it several times now, on various users (including you, as it happens...) - no change, so I'm guessing it's something specific to your settings. Have a look at the "Edit block reasons" function and see whether you can see all of them in there. Yunshui  12:41, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I've just tried blocking you (without going all the way...) and all the reasons are there in Edit block reasons. On a red background. But they don't display - just the list of seven. Peridon (talk) 12:46, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I did rather expect that (the Edit... page is Mediawiki, so if one person can see it in full, everyone else should be able to as well). Okay, the problem's definitely with your drop down menu and how it's picking up the data from that page. Changed any settings lately? One thing you could try is purging your cache, or closing and reopening your browser (you know, all the usual stuff IT helpdesks ask you to do...). Beyond that, I'm not sure - hopefully you'll get an answer from one of the bright sparks at the Pump. Yunshui  12:50, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I haven't changed any settings, but they don't always wait to be asked... Restarted browser, which clears history - no difference. BlackKite and Nyttend aren't getting it. Peridon (talk) 13:41, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Turns out to have been "a regression in 1.23wmf15", and someone from WMF has sorted it out. Something to do with using en-gb, I think. Peridon (talk) 14:30, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh, one of those 1.23wtf15 regressions... yeah, that would have been my next guess, right after, "have you got jam on your keyboard?" and, "have you tried sacrificing a goat?" Glad you got it sorted out. Yunshui  14:33, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Hey there. Would you mind leaving your suggestion for Allahabad. What improvements I should make to make it GA ? Any help will be appreciated. Kind regards. --25 CENTS VICTORIOUS  18:25, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Structure and content seems pretty good, but there's a few places where a good copyedit would do wonders for it (e.g. missing capital in 3rd sentence of lead; lines like, "It is also known as the Prime minister Capital of the India, the importance of the government to the city has led seven out of fourteen Prime Ministers of India"; inconsistent terminology (ANN or AMC?); incomplete HTML in the Culture section; the tourism section is pretty unintelligible etc.). I'd suggest putting it in front of the Guild of copyeditors for a once-over. Sources look generally okay, but the formatting should be the same for all of them, and I'd give the External links section a bit of a prune. Otherwise (based on a fairly cursory read-through), it looks okay to me. Yunshui  08:43, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

15:15, 28 February 2014 Yunshui (talk | contribs) deleted page LetsHelp (A7: Article about a company, corporation or organization, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)

Hi,

I would like to know please how the page I created is different from this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logitech ? I tried to create it in the same way as it is Logitech created. You can easily compare the sentences I've written with the sentences that are written about Logitech. I even copied the sentences and adjusted them to LetsHelp. Therefore, could you please reply why Logitech can be listed here and LetsHelp cannot?

Kind regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by AgnesRakus (talkcontribs) 08:08, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

The Logitech article cites a number of independent sources which attest to the fact that Logitech meets Wikipedia's basic inclusion requirements for notability. Your submitted article did not, nor did it suggest that LetsHelp is in any way important or significant enough to be included in an encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not a business directory; if a topic does not meet the inclusion criteria, it does not get included. Yunshui  08:53, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

14:43, 28 February 2014 Yunshui (talk | contribs) deleted page SandS (A7: No explanation of significance (real person/animal/organization/web content/organized event))

Hello,

the page was deleted but I don't understand the reason. What should I have to write at the beginning of the article? I've wrote also some catogories at the end of the article. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matusa 166 (talkcontribs) 14:40, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

The article was virtually unintelligible, dreadfully formatted, promotional in tone and loaded with probable copyright violations - however I actually deleted it because it made no claim of importance and contained no independent sources attesting to its notability. Unless reliable, independent sources have written at length about SandS, it does not belong in Wikipedia. Yunshui  14:53, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Bio 345 Wiki Page: YVR SUSTAINABILITY

Hello,

I am currently starting a subsection on YVR about Sustainability with my partner Kaylerz. I understand that the POV has to be neutral, however it it proving hard to find anything on YVR sustainability not written by YVR. I will keep looking, however, I am allowed to use some information by YVR right?

Thanks in advance! Karolina7 (talk) 06:02, 23 February 2014 (UTC)Karolina7

Hi Karolina7. Some information can be sourced to the subject of an article, yes - but there are restrictions. The guidelines restrict you to neutral and uncontroversial statements (so you can't, for example, repeat a company's claim that they are the "only company in the Western hemisphere to use this technology"). In addition, the article must still be based primarily on secondary or tertiary sources - you can't get away from the fact that you need independent sources for an article to stand up, although if you're expanding the existing YVR article, there are already a substantial collection of such sources in place. Generally speaking, though, if the only source of a piece of information is the subject of the article, one should be very wary of including that information in Wikipedia - just one secondary source like a magazine article or academic paper is preferable to thirty pages from the company's website or press office. Yunshui  09:15, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I have another question. My partner and I are making a page on YVR Sustainability. A YVR page with many sections already exists and I am wondering if it will be okay for us to add our section to it. We would prefer to add to the YVR page than make a separate whole neW article for YVR sustainability. I am also wondering, if our page is a subsection on a larger page, can we still use pictures? Thanks in advance! Karolina7 (talk) 21:20, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

References

Hi Yunshui, I just had a question about references. I am doing a page about the ecology center at lynn valley park and all my information of the wikipedia page so far is coming from their website. Do I need to keep referencing the website with in-text citations? Or can I just refer to it at the end of the page?

Thanks!

Abhic93 (talk) 21:34, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Abhic93. There are several things I need to cover here. First and foremost, you absolutely cannot copy the text of the Lynn Valley Centre website into Wikipedia. I've deleted the sections that were copied directly, but you also need to rewrite what's left quite extensively, as it is currently a close paraphrase of the Centre's website. Placing non-free text into Wikipedia like this is not only against Wikipedia's policies, it is also technically illegal - you are re-releasing someone else's work as your own and under a new licence, in direct violation of their copyright. Sorry to be stern, but that really is an absolute no-no here. I appreciate that you probably intended to change the text as you worked on the article, but I'm afraid that Wikipedia cannot host non-free material from other sources, even in a sandbox, even for a short time.
Serious stuff out of the way, let's get to the less pressing issues. Another reason that Wikipedia doesn't use text from else is that it doesn't usually meet the requirements for a neutral tone of voice - unsurprisingly, text from a company's website tends to be fairly favourable to the company. When you're writing, remember that you're not trying to advertise the Centre or its programs - you're providing encyclopedic information for someone who has never been there and in all likelihood, never will. In a thirty years time, will it be useful for a reader in, say, Nepal to know that the Centre offered birthday parties for children under 10, and that these were scheduled between 1 and 3.15 pm at weekends (except for occasional Fridays by prior arrangement)?
By the same token, we also don't accept articles that are sourced only to the subject of the article. Nothing is stopping me from creating a website about myself claiming all sorts of fantastic things about my amazing skills, but Wikipedia wouldn't accept that website as a source for an article about me. The key criterion with Wikipedia is that someone else must have written about it first. You therefore need sources which are about the Centre, not by the Centre; without such sources, I'm afraid the article won't stand a chance.
Finally, to address the question you actually asked: You need to add inline citations for any information that is likely to be challenged. In practice, that means that you should generally have a citation at the end of each paragraph, and additional citations at the end of sentences which contain potentially controversial information (like, for example, facts and figures). Adding citations looks pretty complicated but is actually very easy once you get the hang of it; I've put together a very short essay which will give you all the basic info that you need. Hope that helps, Yunshui  08:26, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Article onFa jin

Can you take a quick look.Peter Rehse (talk) 22:18, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Peter. I'm assuming you're referring to the IP editor, but (at the time for writing) he seems to have packed his bags, so there's not really any action to take. You might, of course, be referring to the fact that the article's in a pretty dire state generally, and could use some work... If it's something else, let me know.
Off topic, but since I know you're a fellow aikidoka, if you're interested in Fa Jin IRL (especially as it relates to aikido) you should try and check out Dan Harden's work. He visits the UK a few times per year; well worth investigating. Yunshui  08:10, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Help?

Hi Yunshui, I've not been involved at all in the AfC process so I have no idea what the correct procedures are! I noticed this edit and checked the links to the addition. It appears the new article for Povodog may be a copy paste of the sources - for instance this one and from this as well. I'm not sure what the procedure is so thought I'd bat it in your direction in case I just make a complete hash of it! SagaciousPhil - Chat 09:06, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

You're right, it is - and the correct procedure is to tag it with db-g12. No need to in this instance, I've already removed it. Yunshui  10:47, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
Looks as though this user has been sticking copyvios into Wikipedia for quite a while... Yunshui  10:53, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
 • Thanks, Yunshui - sorry to have given you extra work! SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:15, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, dear all. I am asking to return this article cause it is the description of one of the charity activities of a Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska. Yes, we used some foreign press sources to make article full emotional and correct but we also included in the article Povodog the proper links to these sourses. The information placed in all the articles Oleg Deripaska and Povodog is correct. What shall we do as official representatives of Povodog shelter for you to return the articles.

Thank you for your answer — Preceding unsigned comment added by MariaTalanova (talkcontribs) 10:57, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

As official representatives of the Povodog shelter you should not be editing an article about your organisation. The article will not be restored, as it violated that copyright of a number of different sources. You absolutely may not add copy-pasted content from any non-free source to Wikipedia. I am a hair's-breadth away from blocking your account for repeated copyright violations and promotional editing; if you add any further material that is not entirely your own work, I shall do so. Hello - good block of 我的愛人 (talk · contribs), but note that the same person has also been using 70.79.87.53 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). It's a dynamic IP so I'd originally thought to leave it alone (hence the blocking of the associated account), but since the same guy is still clearly using it (and for the same purpose), I've issued a short block. Yunshui  16:14, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Protection Request with Block for IP

Can you please look at User:196.20.241.62, this IP is currently invovled with an ongoing SPI for User:Smauritius. We need protection for the last page it edited and a block. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 16:23, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with Smauritius, and I don't have the time right now (or, if I'm honest, the mental energy) to investigate the user's history. As a result, I'm not comfortable sockblocking the IP - you might want to ask for input from an admin who knows the case. What I have done is added short term protection to the article, to prevent the ongoing edit war there. Yunshui  16:28, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Please could you do me a favour?

Please could you have a look at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Easy Taxi, which the creator (User:Paul.malicki) has been trying hard to improve? I feel too close to it now. Deb (talk) 12:53, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

I need a break from reading about Balochian abductions (see recent contrib history) so sure, I'll take a gander. Yunshui  13:00, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
There's lots that needs doing (the article needs wikilinks, the duplicated citations need to be combined, there are still one or two words to watch dotted around) - but I see nothing here that would give me any great cause for concern. Unless you object, Deb, I'd be happy to pass this into mainspace and work with Paul to improve it there. Yunshui  13:11, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

NEW POWERFUL DAMA

Dear Yunshi, You delete the New Powerful Dama, because according to you there is already a side for that with Queen Chess. This is not correct, because the New Powerful Dama has two meanings. It was used as a New Chess Queen in 1475 instead of the old arabic piece in Spain with a complete new movement. Apart from that the New Powerful Dama was also used in a new game, namely the draughts game or checkers game as it is called in the USA. If we use only Queen Chess than there is not any relationship with the New Powerful Dama to the draughts (checkers) game. So I request for an apart article for the New Powerful Dama and ofcourse I am willing to put the article at first in the sandbox for ameliorating texts together. Best regards Moriscoricote (talk) 14:21, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

As far as I can tell from the literature, Govert Westerveld is the only person in the chess community using this terminology in an attempt to establish a Valencian origin for the chess queen. I've no objection to this being included in the article on the chess queen (assuming some sources canbe found to support it), but no-one except Westerveld seems to use this term or make any connection to the game of draughts. It therefore doesn't merit a standalone article. Yunshui  07:20, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui - Biol 345 question

Hi Yunshui, hope all is well with you. My partner and I found that there were two wiki pages that relate to the Mount Seymour Park in Vancouver, Canada. We plan to integrate the information together into one page so its much easier for the viewer. We plan to take the information from the Mount Seymour and add it to the Mount Seymour Provincial Park page (which we are currently editing and adding our own information in our sandbox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Thelukkolukko/sandbox).

What is the proper plan of action that should we do? So far, we copied and pasted the information from Mount Seymour into our sandbox editing page. Is this allowed? What you suggest? We also noticed that once we amalgamate the pages together and transfer the info from Mount Seymour to our sandbox ( which will eventually be the edited Mount Seymour Provincial Park page), the Mount Seymour page does not necessarily need to exist.

Should we just edit the Mount Seymour page and delete all the information or is there a proper way of doing this. We ultimately want our edited version of the Mount Seymour Provincial Park to be the major source of info, so is there a way to make the Mount Seymour Page forward to ours?

Sorry for so many questions and thank you very much in advance!

Aabundo (talk) 21:17, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Aabundo. It sounds as though what you're proposing is what we refer to as a page merge (removing one page and incorporating its content into another). I'd be wary of doing this with two such established articles - most merges tend to require a discussion and an establishment of consensus on the article's talkpage. If you do combine the two pages into one, your work will probably be reverted and you'll be told to discuss it first.
That's not to say it isn't a good idea to combine the pages, but if you want to go down that route you'll need to log a merge proposal (see the link in my first sentence for details), and you'd probably have a wait of several weeks before a consensus is established and the discussion is closed. Even then, there's no guarantee that the consensus will approve your proposal (on past experience, I'd say it probably wouldn't). Given that you guys (unlike most Wikipedia editors) are working to a timeframe, that's probably not the most sensible process to get involved with.
If you decide to go ahead without holding a discussion, the correct process is to incorporate all of the information into the new page first, then replace the content of the Mount Seymour article with the code #REDIRECT Mount Seymour Provincial Park. As I said, though, if you do this you will probably find that it gets reverted almost immediately.
I would suggest, instead, that you incorporate a small amount of information from the Mount Seymour page into your draft, condensing the content of that article into one or two paragraphs and adding it as a section within your revised version of the Mount Seymour Provincial Park page. You can also use the main template to link readers to the full version of the Mount Seymour article.
One thing that you do need to be careful with is copying and pasting within Wikipedia. No-one's going to be too fussed if you take a copy of a page into a sandbox for editing (although technically speaking you shouldn't), but you'll need to be careful in moving the content back to the "live" page, especially if it ends up incorporating text from the Mount Seymour article. If you let me know when you're at that stage I can help you through the process. Yunshui  08:26, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui (talk),

Hope you are doing well. We followed your advice and rather just summarized info into our draft and used the main template. We also created a discussion just to see if it would work- although we are doubtful. We are wondering what would be the way to apply our draft into the actual page - do we just copy and paste our draft script? Here is our sandbox for easier access: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Thelukkolukko/sandbox. As well, please let us know if we did anything incorrectly or if you had any suggestions. Thank you very much in advance Yunshui, you have been extremely helpful through this process.
