Death[edit]

John Hume died of natural causes in Owen Mor Care Centre, a care home specifically catered for people living with Dementia.

John died peacefully in his sleep, at approximately 01:20 on the 3rd of August, 2020.

He was survived by his wife, Pat, and their 5 children. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WhoWantTrollSkinBoots (talkcontribs) 11:08, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WhoWantTrollSkinBoots RIP John Hume, did you mean to place this here or into the John Hume article? Best wishes JW 1961 Talk 11:17, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a recent change in consensus regarding WP:DAYS. All additions now require a source, and pending changes should not be accepted in the absence of one. Cheers. --PuzzledvegetableIs it teatime already? 13:23, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Thanks for noticing the vandalism on my user page! P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 21:28, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi P,TO 19104 Thank you for the Barnstar and you're welcome - they were pretty abusive towards you. JW 1961 Talk 21:34, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome? Really?[edit]

Welcome? Really? I know Twinkle adds the welcome automatically when you post the speedy template, but it's possible to remove the welcome manually if you like. That's what I do myself when I see Twinkle has made me "welcome" a user that I'm actually about to block, and/or that I don't think is welcome to Wikipedia at all. Entirely up to you, of course. Bishonen | tålk 22:08, 13 August 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Yeah Bishonen I've seen that most we CSD aren't all that welcome at all! I must start removing that bit for the obvious ones too JW 1961 Talk 22:23, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User talk:Farmket Official requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. —Bruce1eetalk 11:15, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bruce1ee, I only created their original user talk via Twinkle to CSD their sandbox, I think the notification should go to the user rather than me, I know Twinkle automatically sends this message to the "Creator". I see they are blocked but probably need talk page access removed JW 1961 Talk 11:24, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, sorry about that. I didn't release Twinkle did that. I think you can remove this notice if you want. —Bruce1eetalk 11:31, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No harm done, it did give me a little flutter as I haven't created that many articles, but those that I have should be ok LOL JW 1961 Talk 12:26, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:05, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About your speedy deletion request[edit]

Thanks for removing the speedy deletion request from the sandbox here. You gave me quite a fright! I thought in one's sandbox, my "student" was relatively save... What should we do differently so that it doesn't happen again in future? We are currently setting up those 17 SDG articles as part of an upcoming edit-a-thon in September. EMsmile (talk) 13:49, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EMsmile Thanks for pointing this one out. Really nothing much more you can do except maybe put a banner at the top of the sandboxes (or Draft articles) saying that the text is from "X" website and you have permission to use it. This type of article is flagged here and myself (and the other patrollers) will make a call based on what we see and what the copyvio tool tells us. Remember that even if an article is tagged, you can always contest the deletion (as you did with this one) and an administrator will decide - the person who nominates an article for deletion doesn't have any further say on whether it is kept or not. Hope this helps you a small way. Have a nice day and stay safe JW 1961 Talk 15:57, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for these explanations! EMsmile (talk) 04:38, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

edit on Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel)[edit]

Hello i did a edit on Channel 10 (Israeli TV channel) page. This was my first edit, and im just starting to learn how to edit on wikipedia. I would be happy to learn and improve, what in the edit looked like a test edit? Hi WikiSpoken your edit removed "Interview shows" and replaced it with "ows" see here Dont worry, this happens a lot and is generally tagged as a test edit if it is the first edit of a new user. If you need any other help getting started you can also try WP:Teahouse or drop me a note any time. Have an nice day and happy editing JW 1961 Talk 13:15, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted[edit]

Hi Joseywales1961. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 16:19, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rosguill, Thank you for trusting me, I will be very cautious using this and will initially review only topics I have a good knowledge of (unless I see something like BLP violations, spam or copyvio of course) JW 1961 Talk 18:02, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do note that this is currently for a 1 month trial run. While I wouldn't insist on you reviewing articles where you genuinely have no idea how to assess sources, I would rather see you tackle a wide variety of topics, make some mistakes, and improve on them than for you to just stick to a narrow set of topics. signed, Rosguill talk 18:05, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rosguill, OK, I'll have a look at the feed later this evening and pick a couple randomly (I have access through wikipedia library and Dublin City Uni to a wide variety of RS) - hoping I don't make too many mistakes though! JW 1961 Talk 18:09, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you're ever unsure about a review, feel free to reach out to me or start a thread at WT:NPR signed, Rosguill talk 18:19, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IP[edit]

I deleted the revision with your IP address. The revision is also oversightable if you wish to request that. If not, just remove this message. Regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:21, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Daniel Afedzi Akyeampong[edit]

Hello JW 1961, thank you for the deletion notice on Daniel Afedzi Akyeampong. I can't seem to find any part of the article that was copied from the sources I used, except the paragraphs that were actually quoted as words of the person of whom the article is about. Unfortunately that part of the article can not be doctored because they are the exact words of the person and they are in quotation marks. However, if there is any part of the article aside the quotations that was lifted directly from the sources I provided you could kindly point them out to me and I will gladly rectify that. Thank you once again for notifying me on the matter. Have a wonderful day. Kinvidia (talk) 21:15, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kinvidia, Hi, thank you for the reply, you can see the Copyvio Tool analysis of the page here which highlights problems. JW 1961 Talk 21:33, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JW 1961, thank you for getting back to me. I just went through the comparisons and I couldn't find a full sentence at least that was lifted from the Source aside the quoted paragraphs. All other issues of copying seem to hover around names of persons and names of institutions and I do not see how those could be changed. Kindly check to confirm this. Kinvidia (talk) 22:04, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kinvidia, I will have to let the patrolling admin finally decide while the copyvio still shows 91%. For legal reasons, wikipedia does not accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. JW 1961 Talk 22:22, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Once again thank you for getting back to me JW 1961.That's alright, I will try to see what I can do. Whatever may be the case thank you for notifying me. Kinvidia (talk) 23:46, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kinvidia, You're welcome. Happy editing and stay safe JW 1961 Talk 10:25, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi may i ask why you recommend our content/page for speedy deletion? did we disobey or copyright any content ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronnie Ong (talkcontribs) 13:04, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ronnie Ong, Because it is a user page, not an article - user pages should only contain the very basic user information and not be styled to resemble an article - see WP:User pages. An article by a new user should be created in draft space and reviewed at WP:AFC before being published. Also note articles should preferably not be an autobiography (see WP:Autobiography). Of further concern is the use of the word "we" in your question above - wikipedia accounts are only permitted for individuals, not companies etc. Thank you. JW 1961 Talk 14:11, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thank you soo much for your clarification for this. im just new in wikipedia so im kinda need some assistance or guidance. i really appreciate your kindness. i will now fix this. thank you again — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronnie Ong (talkcontribs) 14:14, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
