Final Fantasy XII

Wouldn't it be better to make it more clear that of the 102 songs in Final Fantasy XII, Uematsu only contributed a single one: Kiss Me Good-Bye? It's also worth noting that while Uematsu and Hitoshi Sakimoto are mentioned, Angela Aki provided the lyrics for the song, but is not credited. Furthermore, violinist Taro Hakase also composed a single music track ("the main instrumental theme") for the game called "Symphonic Poem Hope" but he is not credited for the FFXII soundtrack either. Maybe change the FFXII entry in Uematsu's page to:

1. Final Fantasy XII (2006) - Kiss Me Good-Bye only

But it's more like the other guy WITH Uematsu. Reading through his discography, you'd think he scored the game, but he didn't. It's misleading. Name

I could have sworn his name was "Nobuo Uematsu", not "Uematsu Nobuo" Fredrik 19:25, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I've never seen his name credited in romaji spelt any way other than "Nobuo Uematsu" either. However that uses the Japanese order of presenting the surname first -- I'm guessing Wikipedia has a convention of using the English order for naming articles about Japanese persons. This seems wrong to me -- in this case anyway -- but is certainly defensible, and at least there's a redirect from Nobuo Uematsu. -24.80.122.19 07:50, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I just noticed Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(japanese), which states "In general, use the form of a person's name that is most widely known and used by English speakers." Since his name seems to be credited most often as "Nobuo Uematsu" -- and indeed the external links refer to him thus, particularly nobuouematsu.com -- this policy would seem to imply that the page should live at "Nobuo Uematsu". I've gone ahead and moved it. If I have missed some reason why it shouldn't have been moved (sync with the .ja wiki perhaps?) then please don't hesitate to move it back. Removed sentence

Ehrgeiz / Super Mario RPG

Uematsu composed for neither Ehrgeiz nor Super Mario RPG directly. He only receives credit because compositions from previous games were featured within them. For this, I have created a "Derivative Works" section, for games that feature music composed by him, but originally for an entirely different game. The music in this section is always in the case where it is arranged by a different composer. -Kaleb.G

Biography Needs Work

I think his biography could use a bit of work. I mean, they had an hour show on him on Tech TV... the article seems more like a stub than anything. -- AllyUnion

Also, I remember reading in an interview that he spent some time writing music for pornographic films until he was let go for being 'too good' or something along those lines, or would including that count as slander, even though he said it himself. Discography Page?

There are quite a few articles for individual soundtracks by Nobuo Uematsu released as albums, but we have no one page with a list of them in chronological order. Robert Walley

Should we not remove Final Fantasy XII from his list of works? He didn't compose the music for the game regardless of whether or not he was originally planned for the job. I've looked into it to try and find out if he contributed anything at all but I've found nothing.

It appears he did something on the OST, or these websites [2][3] are wrong. I want to say I heard he only did one song on it but I do not know. If you can find sources that he did not do anything for the OST please post them here. Alus 05:00, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Uematsu's influences

There needs to be some sources cited for his influences or else anyone is just going to put what they feel sounds similar to his music as being fact. For example, I've never heard Uematsu has ever come out and said he's been influenced by John Williams or this relatively unknown Peer Raben in the same way he consistently references Elton John and Simon & Garfunkle as influences.

Video Games Live

There doesn't seem to be anything about video games live. Lots of his music is being played there and was last year. Namely final fantasy music. Much of it is played on the piano by Martin Leung. It is on tour again now.

I can't find on the official website anywhere that says Nobuo is composing or contributing to SSBB. The reference link leads here [4], where's there's no mention of him. Stop putting in unverified claims for Uematsu's influences

Despite how much you think Uematsu sounds like Erik Nordgren or Peer Rabin, unless Uematsu says so himself, it is a lie to say that he is. I also know a lot of you think One Winged Angel sounds like Stravinsky (it actually doesn't because Stravinsky is much, much more complicated than that) Uematsu isn't inspired by him until he says he is. I made a few fixes during my review; here's what I have after that:

• Not sure why you linked to 1986 in video gaming and 2008 in video gaming, but not in every other time you mention a year. Are these necessary links anyway?
  • I linked them because I had seen them being linked in other VG articles. But they're not necessary, so I removed them.
• "While working at Square, he met Final Fantasy conceiver Hironobu Sakaguchi" What exactly does being a "conceiver" entail? A more specific word would be useful.
  • Changed to "creator".
• Some unnecessary links throughout—I see 1970s and Europe as prime examples. You might want to check through and weed out some of the less useful ones, though this isn't terribly important.
  • I unlinked some unnecessary links, but I don't know if I got them all.

• The "Square Haven" source's about page says "Take Square Enix only as seriously as its own college drunkenness and inability to graduate within four years, and the community of less-than-completely-useless Official Square Haven Vapid Buttmunches that frequent its comment threads and forums." This doesn't make me terribly confident about its reliability.

• Why are these external links necessary?

First Live Performance

The sentence 'Uematsu's Final Fantasy music was performed live for the first time [...] in 2003.' is incorrect. First of all, the 20020220 Music from Final Fantasy concert was in 2002. Then, there's the Game Music Concerts of the early 90s (which feature a lot of his music). Finally, there's Symphonic Suite Final Fantasy from 1989 which (according to the article section) was a recording of a concert. Life ~ in memory of KEITEN ~

According to the article (See The Black Mages section)

Uematsu composed a new song titled "Life ~ in memory of KEITEN ~" for Darkness and Starlight.

This is not true. Please see the second to last section at the official album website.

In this album, there is a track which wasn't used in the videogame of FINAL FANTASY.

It is "LIFE" which is included as track#10.

About 8 years ago, I met a boy named "Yoshitaka Tagawa" who was 15 years old then. Yoshitaka(who is the big big fan of FINAL FANTASY) got acute myeloid leukemia from his childhood, and it was difficult for his doctor to expect how long he could live. I wish him to get better and presented him the song "LIFE". After I presented him that song, he started to participate in a lot of events of mine from far Kyushu with his mother. When I first met him, he seemed to lack energy, but while meeting him for a several time, he got energetic and smiled a lot. In fact, I met him at "PRESS START CONCERT" last year, and he was full of vigor. Everybody around him was thinking confidently that he is getting better, but on Jan.25th 2008, He suddenly passed away. I was really sad and was full of regret. I thought that the delightful things must have waited for him in his future. But no one can predict what's going to happen, he passed away.

Is Life unequal? No, I don't want to think like that. I expect Life to be fair and each of us has a equal role in their life. We also want you to know the meaning of his 22years life and decided to include "LIFE" in this album.

How hard the life is if someone whom you love or someone who is important to you passed away suddenly. If I had known this would happen, I would have given him more opportunity to have fun, and I would have invited him to the recordings and the concerts more. But after the sad thing happened, It's too late even if I thought so. If you have a family, friends, girl friend or boy friend whom you love, please send them your love and express your hearty thanks to them as much as you can at this moment. Yoshitaka let me know about the importance of it through his own experience.

I would have corrected this myself but I wasn't sure of a good way to reword it. I do like the inclusion of the note about KEITEN. Any help with this?

Not dead?

Someone changed it to report his death, but used a bogus link to an article that doesn't mention Nobuo at all. I can't find any reference to Nobuo's death on the internet, so I am reverting that change. The word "song" is used completely incorrectly throughout

I've heard the vast majority of Uematsu Nobuo's music, yet I've only heard a very few SONGS by him. The word "song" has a fairly specific meaning, and people are using it to apply to all music pieces, especially here in the Talk section. This misuse of the word "song" is incorrect. The article likely needs a few revisions to substitute "piece" or "work" in place of almost all occurrences of "song". 'Eyes on Me' is a song, but nothing from Final Fantasy 1 - 6 is a song... excepting if Uematsu re-wrote it later as a song. There are no songs in Final Fantasy games prior to 8... especially since the game consoles prior to the Playstation that support Final Fantasy games weren't capable of playing songs. I strongly urge people to look up the word "song" and see what it means. Not all pieces of music are songs; in fact, throughout history, if you add it all up, most pieces of music are probably not songs. If it doesn't have a Human voice, it's not a song.

I think it's better to call his BGM work "tracks" or "themes", and while calling his stuff "songs" may be technically incorrect, I don't necessarily think it's wrong either. --Dissident93 10:16, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Why isn't Final Fantasy Adventure and Super Mario RPG included onNobuo Uematsus list?

Dear wikipedia users

As you know Nobuo Uematsu has contributed to the Gameboy music "Final Fantasy Adventure" 1991 called "Chocobos Birth", He also contributed songs to Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. "Fight Against Culex" I have played those games before and I've seen his name in the credits.

I want Final Fantasy Adventure and Super Mario RPG back on the soundtrack credit list since he did contribute to those Nintendo games. Also Please include an article on Eyes on Me with Faye Wong from Final Fantasy 8. CrosswalkX (talk) 04:04, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
