glorious self promotion!

Lorna Bailey is NOT notable using wikipedias guidlines... the published works are all published by her and her family...as is the article I suspect.

self-published books, personal websites, and blogs are not acceptable as sources.

You'd think she could supply a better photo of herself however!

Self Promotion[edit]

Note that this is apparently an autobiographical article that points to the author's own website and newsletters as its only information source. This is highly in appropriate for a Wikipedia article.The subject may be worthy of an article? Notability[edit]

Lorna Bailey is one of the most notable of contemporary ceramics designers and manufacturers in the UK. Her ceramics are featured in Collectables Price Guide 2007 (Judith Miller's Price Guides Series), in Michael Hogben's (2007) 100 Antiques of the Future (New Holland Publishers), and also regularly in Collect It! magazine. As mentioned in the article, Lorna Bailey was awarded an honorary doctorate by Staffordshire University for her services to pottery design (2005). She also won Midlands Business Woman of the Year (1998) and was invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in 2002 (itself an honour). PsycheMan 19:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At best I agree you could say LB "was for some thirteen years a notable contemporary ceramics manufacturer". The article itself admits her designs was "very closely based on the pottery of Clarice Cliff" and that she used "traditional Art Deco shapes". I would venture that that looks like mimicry rather then creativity. I also think that there is an attempt to give a veneer of value to the article by the number of references, rather than the quality of them. Others have mentioned the large number of self published references, and I would add that the magazine "Collect It!" is hardly an authority of any substance. I remain of the opinion that this article is not up to Wikipedia's standards without, at the very least, drastic re-editing. I do not think her daughter should be mentioned and the last sentence about her father continuing to produce pottery is simply an advertisement. I believe that both sentences shold be removed. The principal author of this article is NOT a member of Lorna Bailey's family, nor a personal friend. The purpose of the article is not advertising. Rather it aims to present useful information to collectors and members of the public interested in Lorna Bailey's work and her contribution to pottery design.
