GA Review[edit]

Reviewer: Carbrera (talk · contribs) 04:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am Carbrera, and I'll be reviewing this article for possible good article submission.

Full review coming very soon. Carbrera (talk) 04:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

  • Shouldn't the title be "Lo Mejor de...Selena"?
  • Album cover image needs an alt

Lead[edit]

Paragraph 1[edit]

  • Separate the lead and second sentence into "Lo Mejor de...Selena is a double disc compilation album by American singer Selena. It was released posthumously in the United States on March 31, 2015 by EMI Latin and Universal Music Latin Entertainment."
  • I would clarify what chart the seven singles were on where they were number one

Paragraph 2[edit]

  • I think the tense of the second to last sentence should be the same as the rest of the article; perhaps you could say "The album has charted on the Top..." instead?
  • It doesn't sound right, it could be me though but it would then read "The album has charted on the U.S. Billboard Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums chart at number two". jona(talk) 00:32, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • The final sentence isn't necessary because it doesn't really describe the article as a whole

Background[edit]

  • Move 'In March 1995' to the front of the sentence so it reads "In March 1995, American Tejano singer..."
  • Delete 'simultaneously' and instead add 'also' so it reads 'It was also made available for digital download and released as a double disc.'

Songs[edit]

Paragraph 1[edit]

  • Again clarify what chart her singles were number one on
  • Find a source stating that "Como la Flor" is Selena's signature song
  • The last two sentences at the period verifies this statement. jona(talk) 00:32, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • The fourth sentence contains a total of six references; that's quite a lot; I think you can make the same point with less citations
  • The acclaim needs to have more than one reference as one source does not explicitly state it was received well, the popular culture reference needs to be proven by multiple sources since not one explicitly state there was an error on their chart reference, and Billboard's reference would need to verify that popular culture has been wrong and in fact the single only peaked at number six. jona(talk) 00:32, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Paragraph 2[edit]

  • This paragraph is quite good; I have nothing to add to this section

Critical reception[edit]

  • This section doesn't mention any critic reviews or critical opinions; this section should be renamed "Commercial reception" or "Commercial performance"
  • Since this section no longer has a critical reception section, it definitely needs one; this is major for a GA album
  • It's a 'best of' album with no promotion or singles so reviews would be hard to find, but I did found a few that discussed briefly on it though nothing major would ever be found since nothing new came out of this album. jona(talk) 00:32, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Replace "Over at the" to "On the"
  • Replace "Seven songs of the singer" to "Seven of her songs"
  • Replace "has been" to "was"

Track listing[edit]

  • Add total time to the track listing for disc one
  • Shouldn't Selena be credited as 'Quintanilla' on the tracks instead of 'Selena'?
  • Her siblings are named Quintanilla, her brother wrote the majority of her songs so it would be confusing to see Quintanilla, Quintanilla, Veda. jona(talk) 00:32, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Add total time to the track listing for disc two as well

Charts[edit]

Weekly charts[edit]

  • Italicize 'Billboard' in 'US Billboard Top Latin Albums'; change to 'US Top Latin Albums (Billboard)'

Year-end charts[edit]

  • Nothing to add here :)

End of GA Review:[edit]

A very good article, but it definitely needs some work before passing. A critical reception section is necessary before passing. I'm allowing the nominator to make changes before passing. Thank you. Carbrera (talk) 23:35, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AJona1992: Very, very good! Just one thing away from passing, can you change "has been" to "was" under the commercial section? Then I will gladly pass it! :) Carbrera (talk) 01:35, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The awards ceremony hasn't aired yet (April 28, 2016) so that's why I wrote "has been" instead of "was" since the outcome has not been determined. Best, jona(talk) 01:39, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, duh. I should have figured. Down the road, please change it to 'was' after the airing. Thanks! It was nice working with you! Carbrera (talk) 01:40, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, and thanks so much for your review! All the best, jona(talk) 01:43, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
