Contested deletion[edit]

Please do not speedily delete this article as I have just started to make alterations to it (before the addition of this notice) in readiness to assert its importance by reference to reliable sources, which I am in the process of consulting.

Verkade was a singular and recognised member of the Les Nabis (and is listed along with all the others, all of whom have bluelinks) in that article, so that it would be rather strange to remove him, uniquely, from that company among artists having their own articles. The serious and spiritual nature of the group (in its artistic intentions) was in a certain and particular sense followed to its conclusion by Verkade, who became an artist-monk and devoted the later part of his artistic life to religious paintings. He has an autobiography which describes his spiritual journey, which is an important resource for knowledge of Les Nabis from an insider's point of view, and has also been a very widely read book in its time. While he is not the most important of the group in himself he is widely mentioned in connection with them, and if this article is uncreated it will sooner or later have to be recreated. As I have only just begun working on it when this 'speedy deletion' notice was suddenly applied, it would be helpful if you would please not remove the article while work is in progress over the next few days.
