I'd done some massive work on this article to greatly expand it from a stub to its current fuller state, however its seriously lacking in imagery. I haven't been able to find a single free use image in Flickr, Google images, archives, anywhere of any of the creamery facilities. Any members in Harrisburg who might be able to go by the Hershey Creamery Company and take a picture of its headquarters, and maybe someone in Lower Swatara who could get a picture of that newer distro facility they opened there? This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. Dab help
At three miles island the location of the plant is given as "three miles downriver from Middletown, Pennsylvania" and "Londonderry Township, Pennsylvania", but both of these links go to disambiguious pages. Could someone please link the terms to the correct Middletown and Londonderry Township pages so I don;t have to guess where to go? TomStar81 (Talk) 23:46, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Proposed PHMC closures
On 4 March 2009, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) released a study of its 22 museums and historic sites, here: "Planning Our Future: Sustainability Committee Final Report". It recommended discontinuing operations at six of its sites, four of which are National Historic Landmarks. Proposed cuts to the PHMC budget mean these sites could close as early as July 1, 2009:
- Brandywine Battlefield (NHL)
- Bushy Run Battlefield (NHL)
- Conrad Weiser House (NHL)
- Fort Pitt Museum
- Joseph Priestley House (NHL)
- US Brig Niagara (museum ship)

Townships
I'd like opinions on moving many Pennsylvania township articles. Some months ago, Omnedon and I moved all Minnesota townships to "_____ Township, _____ County, Minnesota". Prior to this time, they had been in a format similar to those of Pennsylvania: townships with unique names were at "_____ Township, Minnesota", while those with duplicate names were already at "_____ Township, _____ County, Minnesota". We did this in the interests of consistency: it's much simpler when all the townships have the same naming format. What would all of you think about moving most Pennsylvania townships so that they're all located at "_____ Township, _____ County, Pennsylvania"? Nyttend (talk) 13:31, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

- I've no strong opinion either way, as my edits only incidentally touch on PA townships (usually while trying to link to the hometown of some historical person from PA). But another approach to consider to avoid redlinks is to simply make sure a complete set of redirects are in place. That way, you could always be certain that a link in the form "_____ Township, _____ County, Pennsylvania" will not be a redlink and will go to the correct page, while also leaving the short form as the actual title for those pages that don't need disambiguation. I believe this approach is somewhat more in line with avoiding unnecessary pre-disambiguation (as in the protracted TV show naming controversy and as had been a frequently point of contention in US city naming conventions. older ≠ wiser 21:53, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Support – I would like to see more consistency on place articles. This would definitely pinpoint in which part of the state the township is located. - Only for townships. We should not do this for municipalities, boroughs, and cities, which almost always have unique names already. --M@rēino 15:28, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Comments — I've never meant to suggest moving anything but townships: boroughs and cities (plus the town and the town wannabe) should definitely remain where they are. As for the redirects — as the one who created the majority (or at least the plurality) of all county templates nationwide, I'm always sensitive to redirects, so don't worry about them. I'll be sure to update links for any county that I move, and I know that Omnedon was always careful to do likewise. Nyttend (talk) 02:41, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Unless the duplication of names across the state is fairly significant (>50%), there is no compelling reason to do this. One can always just create redirects to the name that includes the county. - Maybe support - Can this be done without breaking a lot of wikilinks? For example, all of the pages in the Category:Pennsylvania House of Representatives Districts and Category:Pennsylvania Senate Districts are linked to townships, and I'd hate to see all those links broken. PA House & Senate Resources
Articles regarding the Pennsylvania State Senate and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives have passed some major milestones recently. First, every State Rep and Senator who served from 2000-now has at least a bare-bones article. However, these articles still need to be fleshed out, and everyone is invited to help out. Every State Rep article has at least an archived external link to an official PA House profile. This can be used for biographical data. The Senator articles still don't have this, but such links can be found here: (1997199819992000200120012002200320042005200620072008). The article for Thomas W. Dempsey is a good example of how these can look.
Second, every PA Senate district and PA House District have articles. However, most of the senate and many house articles still need a table of representatives. That data can be found here. Thurlow, Pennsylvania
This seems to have been a historical locality just south of Chester, PA, but I can't find any modern references to it. Did it disappear, and if so, what happened to it? Assistance appreciated. Gatoclass (talk) 01:47, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- The USGS GNIS lists only a "Thurlow Station, Pennsylvania" here. The corrdinates are within the modern city of Chester, PA. If you go any further south you wind up in New Jersey or perhaps Delaware. Will keep looking, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Standard Steel Casting Company, Thurlow, Pennsylvania, was the largest plant in the country for the manufacture of open hearth steel castings. This concern made all the most important castings for battleships, cruisers and ordnance for the United States Government. They also made locomotives, e.g., TRAINS, railroad tracks and much more. Thurlow, Pennsylvania is mentioned in several other articles in this encyclopedia!!! Thurlow, Pennsylvania should not be deleted; rather its location which is now Chester, Pennsylvania, should be indicated in the article with an explanation (or a historical note perhaps). It has value to Historians and Genealogy Researchers. My LONG ancestors who invented The Long Rifle settled Longstown, Pennsylvania. Longstown (Union County, Pennsylvania), is now New Berlin. A quick dip into Linn's Annals reveals MANY such changes.
If this encyclopedia is to serve its purpose, deleting the name of a town because its name was changed means it never existed, right? WRONG!!!

GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. Research list
I have spent a few hours collecting and categorizing research sources relating to the politics and government of Pennsylvania. It is located here: User:Blargh29/Resources. On Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous)#Municipal authorities/special district governments there is a proposal to add a great many (1,700, more or less) new Pennsylvania government stubs with a bot. Lists of municipal authorities
Here is a short how-to on the way to create the Lists of municipal authorities:
- First, download data on the special purpose governments in Microsoft Excel .xls format from the Census of Governments website. Then, edit and trim the superfluous columns and other non-pertinent data. Then, run some
=Proper(A1)commands to get the data out of the ALL CAPS format and into a more usable "proper" capitalization. You will probably have to run some find/replace searches to turn the Mcc, Mca, and other strings into McC and McA. Some of the government names had some descriptors in (Parentheses), which are probably added by the Census. Delete them, so you have the proper title.
- Then, create a test table with the different columns that you want to see in your list. This will give you an idea of what kind of format you need your final data output to be in. Then run a
=CONCATENATE(A1)commands to collect the various columns into 1 cell per row, with the requisite "||" characters into a form that was easily plugged into the Wikitable code.
- Then, you have to go through all the redlinked cities and direct them to the best place. Use your best judgment to see where the targets ought to be--either by creating redirects or piped links. You might want to create a wikilink for the "function" column. You can use a search/replace command to change a large number of these to an active state at once. At this point, you should have a decent and properly formatted list of special purpose governments.--Blargh29 (talk) 04:52, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

List of United States federal courthouses in Pennsylvania is now being put together. I would estimate that there are about a dozen federal courthouses missing from the list (the older ones of which will be found here), and would appreciate any help in getting this done.
