Proposed date/time location

Thought this had been milling around the cosmos for too long so heres a suggestion:

So what does everyone think? Gnangarra 12:45, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Orderinchaos 13:32, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Possible after sch holidays finished? My kids want to go wandering in that week SatuSuro 13:35, 14 January 2007 (UTC) I think so- but dont let me spoil the party lets wait to see how many respondees show their knees! SatuSuro 14:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Would a week after that be OK? Orderinchaos 13:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, won't be able to come to anything like this. I do apologize--M W Johnson 00:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm flexible anytime after the 22nd. Time and location proposed is good for me. —Moondyne 03:13, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
24hours does some wierd stuff when I suggested it was a good time for me, 1 phone call I'll be in Sydney that day so wont be able to make it 8{, but dont let that stop it from happening. Gnangarra 07:38, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
  • DATE: Wednesday 24th 31st January 2007
So no pints then? :@/ SeanMack 11:59, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
OK so since that one fell right apart, does anyone have any suggestions for a new date we can all make? :) Orderinchaos 12:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Any CBD(ish) pub - late afternoon, on any friday... pub isn't mandatory. This kind of organisation is never going to be easy I fear. Personally Fridays are better for me. But I'll try and make any day/location that gets support. SeanMack 13:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Thursday is OK here. SeanMack 13:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Heheh off to a good start I cannot do fridays = would prefer thursday! SatuSuro 13:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Wed or Thurs is probably best for most. I'm available on those days any week, would prefer a meetup before mid-Feb as I'll be full time studying from then. Orderinchaos 13:29, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
As order and fred have said to each other off here - we need to wait for some to return from breaks post oz weekend and etc - but a thursday looks good SatuSuro 13:47, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

The Son of Proposed date/time location

Thursday, The First day of February, in the ear of our lords: Twenty hundred and Seven. Well-met fellows may congregate at the public house, the Sail and Anchor, in the Central business District. Or ...

alternative arrangements to be set by accord upon missive from those with apologies or other business and locale.

2007-02-01.20:00? Yay or neigh. Fred 15:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I think there's bylaws preventing a neigh in that general locale? :) Orderinchaos 05:05, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

How about

Ok we've kicked this around for two weeks, lets commit to meetup

Suggestions based on earlier discussions,

  • DATE: 1 Feb (thursday)
  • Time: 1900 (7pm)
  • LOCN: Battye Library

lets kick this around until tonight. Then we'll set them in stone. Gnangarra 04:13, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

  • It's OK with me. I'm in. —Moondyne 04:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I'm in too. Orderinchaos 05:08, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Highly likely SatuSuro 06:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Will there be cakes? Fred 11:24, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Well timed looks good for me too. Thanks for the heads up Hesp. Ghostieguide 05:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Hesperian 11:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
    • There's some rabble listed here. I suppose that's a quorum. —Moondyne 13:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
      • So it looks like we're meeting tomorrow night then! Orderinchaos 15:50, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Yep - all good. SeanMack 22:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

To clarify: the whole building is the Alexander Library; the Battye Library is just the WA history library on the third(?) floor. Is it really intended that we meet on the third floor... where one cannot take one's bags... and one must keep quiet? Or would be prefer to meet out the front of the Alexander Library building? Hesperian 04:52, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't know why they made it so confusing - the Alexander Library building which contains the State Library of Western Australia (which everyone seems to just call the Alexander) and the (J.S.) Battye Library... I'd assumed we would meet near those weird runic objects out the front somewhere. One minor point - I don't think any of us know what anyone else looks like. Are we going to have a little flag or a sign or something? :) Orderinchaos 05:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Gawd what abunch - Moondyne and self have met. Outside the coffee place next to where you go in - not upstairs or outside is what I vote...SatuSuro 05:19, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Meetup/Perth/1 in this notice i said near the entrance pictured, but where ever is fine the library is open til 2000/2030. Gnangarra
Gnangarra, Moondyne and SatuSuro can identify each other (SORRY gnangarra - many times met and forgot to mention) ...  :( sigh kids first day back at school and the brain is fried already SatuSuro 07:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I put it down to the after affects of this mornings pertyparty(hic!) Gnangarra
What has me curious is there are two pages re this meetup -... ummm SatuSuro 07:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I will unfortunately not be able to attend the meetup, but am moving to Perth for Uni later in Feb so I will be at any future meetups. Hossen27 08:30, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
copied note to meetup page Gnangarra 08:45, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Seems our "can visually identify" graph looks something like this:

Gn - M — H — Gh
  \ /
  SS

O, F and SM can look out for a bunch of nerds shaking hands ;-) Hesperian 10:25, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Gn M — H — Gh
  \ /
  SS

It more linear, I'll have my camera(with reinforced lense) with me, let me know(quietly if you prefer) if you dont want to be photographed or excluded from any images I upload. Gnangarra 10:35, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry,

Gn — SS - M — H — Gh

then. Just don't ask me to draw the fully connected graph after tomorrow. ;-) Hesperian 11:17, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

  • The graph above has 5 listed - and we have 8 people possibly there - maybe someone needs to copy off the wiki logo onto an A4 and wave it madly from 6.59 at the alex door?
  • For any of the uninitiated - I'm the bald one with a moustache :)
  • Interesting 56 participants of Perth project (OK no necessary residential connection) and about a third of that in the wa project - and we get 8 interested internees - is that on a par with other city projects in oz? SatuSuro 11:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Ah but H & Gh have met and I have my pic on my userpage plus the Irish connection btw Sm and Gh therefore

Gn M — H - Fe - Or
   \ /\
   SS Gh + Sm = 1.5 CnH2n+1OH perhaps?

Ghostieguide 12:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Just don't bring it into contact with HCl or Na+ :) I'll probably be in a black t-shirt and pants, those who know my full name can find a 2-year-old pic of me pretty easily. Orderinchaos 12:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

("'Black t-shirt )- Ah northbridge unifrom - excellent for attracting hyde park mossies...SatuSuro 12:54, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Dont forget the knuckle dusters, swords and a couple of flagons of CH3OH & about 30x12-14 year olds and we'd fit right in at Russell Square(after dark) :)
As for the numbers most have had 12-14 on the first meet(all with a lead time of more than 4 days), the exceptions have been associated with a significant event so our 8 is a better than average. We'll need to think/begin planning for a more notiable event to occur during april/may. Gnangarra 13:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Maybe we should do a POV review of the Northbridge area with OR and with a lack of V and N with a slight taste of New Changes patrol? SatuSuro 13:29, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Jimbo in Perth, 24 April

http://www.educationau.edu.au/jahia/Jahia/challenging. Hesperian 02:16, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

$300 incl GST  :| Orderinchaos 05:42, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Forget that; I was thinking he might like some company over dinner. Hesperian 05:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Whats the bet that no-one in the wiki heirarchy/ jimbo minder dept even looks at the wa project or its trappings before coming here - 1 round at the next meetup i make it on that ! SatuSuro 08:03, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I reckon you'll be wrong - and 1st round on me if I'm mistaken. I'm clearing my diary for a dinner invite on the 24/4. —Moondyne 08:24, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
I thinks we have a date range for the next meetup somewhere between 23-25 April, since he's in Adelaide on the 23rd and in Sydney on the 26 given the restrictions to aircraft in sydney his flight will probably be during the day on 25th. How about we send him an email with an invite to a meetup for late drinks on the 24th. Gnangarra 12:43, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh hell that means I shout first round... do it! - maybe signed on behalf of the 1st meetup group - iand on behalf of all the rest ? SatuSuro 12:48, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Sounds like a great idea to me. (Also given the 25th is Anzac Day there wouldn't be much else for him to do...) Orderinchaos 13:29, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Um do you mean the Perth of the fictitious appelations of 'dullsville', and the old tourist promo of 'relax in a state of excitement' would be short of something to do on a public holiday. ?SatuSuro 13:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
I've taken the plunge and left a message at User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Perth April 24 Gnangarra 13:41, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Good call Gnangarra, nice to see if Jimbo would be willing to meet up with the WA wikipedians. thewinchester 23:56, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
I strongly recommend you also email your message to jwales (at) wikia (dot) com, as its likely he won't even see your message there. Jimbo's user talk page is generally only visited by trolls and upset people. The vast majority of messages on that page are handled by other Wikipedians on Jimbo's behalf. Hesperian 00:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
I have now email an invitation as well. Gnangarra 04:20, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Jimbo response

I recieved a response from Jimbo last night about a meetup, only opportunity will be breakfast on the 24th. Gnangarra 01:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Any indication where he is staying? That will have import of where the most relevant location to have the breakfast is - an issue already pursued by the Adelaide meetup SatuSuro 02:17, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Regardless, I should be there. Poor guy, he gets breaky with the croweaters the day before. —Moondyne 02:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Sandgroper antidote for a very rushed person :) SatuSuro 02:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC) The following unsahsamedly adapted from Adelaide meetup page SatuSuro 05:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
According to http://www.educationau.edu.au/jahia/Jahia/challenging his seminar is at the Burswood from 9:30 to 4:00pm 24/4. Its a fair guess he's staying there. —Moondyne 06:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Burswood - domestic airport and get through the hoops - all in 25 minutes? I can hear the pA at the airport 'would passenger wales please board flight x now' I hope hes travelling light - maybe he has his own plane?  :) SatuSuro 06:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Do we have any word yet if Jimbo is interested in attending? thewinchester 09:00, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Gnangaras post top of this section - yes - breakfast only SatuSuro 09:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Missed that, blind as a bat. thewinchester 12:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Confirmed Jimbo accommodation is within the complex that includes the lecture venue. Gnangarra 02:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Venue

I suggested that we have a breakfast in Kings Park utilising the facilities near the Admin buildings. Are there any other suggestions as we should make definite arrangements by this sunday (25th march), that way booking can be made on Monday. Gnangarra 02:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Also I'll organise getting Jimbo to/from the venue Gnangarra 02:26, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Meetup 2

To coincide with a visit to Perth by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, a breakfast with himself is being mooted.

Location

Possible criteria be:

  • Somewhere near to hotel so Jimbo can get to his conference easily
  • Somewhere cheap but edible who want to go can..
  • A public wireless access point ?
  • Room enough for 10 people ?
  • Open by 07:00 am.
  • Not noisy (VIP for hearing challenged - after that noisy pub last time)

What if

What about a BBQ breakfast in Kings Park there are under cover facilities near the admin buildings that would offer a great sunrise over the city and river. Would beat a cafe Gnangarra 06:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I've got no problems with the Kings Park breakfast, but it's then a matter of organising the food, drinks, and paper products for the event - and more importantly who is skilled enough and wishes to be the most holy custodian of the Barbecue (I don't believe there's an article for that). Failing that, what does everyone describe as 'cheap' around that time of the morning? If people don't feel like cooking, then the breakfast menu for the Botanical Cafe at Frasers Restaurant is reasonably priced for breakfast. Failing that, Bells Cafe at the Barrack Street jetty would be another possible idea. Both locations offer good views of the Swan River which would be a good backdrop for the morning. thewinchester 07:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
http://www.frasersrestaurant.com.au/uploads/documents/food/Botanical%20Menu.pdf botanical cafe menu looks ok, a good compromose between the two options Gnangarra 02:32, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Maybe Peruginos???????Nah Frasers sounds okFancyfootwork 08:08, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Semblance of order

To run smoothly we might need:

I'm happy to take care of various administrative duties. What's the best way for everyone to get their names & WP usernames to me? Can place a contact form on a private website if that suits everybody? thewinchester 06:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Email via wikipedia would do it. Gnangarra 06:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Also, for those uncomfortable with others knowing their real full names, what protocol should we adopt? (I don't have a problem with this personally, just raising a hypothetical) Orderinchaos 06:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, emailing me via WP would be sensible. As for names, I was thinking as a minimum First Name and WP Username on the badge. Surnames optional? thewinchester 07:09, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Attendance

(removed as now redundant - see the relevant section in the main page.) Orderinchaos 06:22, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia_talk:Meetup/Perth#Minors

I agree and will not be attending. petedavo 17:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Should be noted that the youngest person who has confirmed, I believe, is either 18 or 19 years of age, looking at the list (I don't ask ages, but I know people's published circumstances so can rule the obvious out) - also we're meeting early in the morning at an odd location on a school day, as well, due to the circumstances by which it came about - so it's definitely not a problem for this meetup. Orderinchaos 21:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually, some schools dont actually commence term 2 until Thursday the 26th (including AC - and many PSA schools). Although i would like to attend, i feel that the issue of minors (me technically being one) would detract from the event, and would make people feel uncomfortable, and hence i have chosen not to attend. How about next yr, ill be an adult.
I can't speak for others but I would have no particular issues with a 17-year-old attending if we know in advance (the issues are *somewhat* different to those of a year 7 or 8), and it's not as if you're unknown to the Western Australian Wikipedian community. Note that this is only my own view, however. Orderinchaos 17:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Nah man, it would be innappropriate. I will not attend until i am legally an adult. Also i want to improve my standing in the community before i come along. Twenty Years 08:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Access -- public transport

Anyone need assistance getting to Kings park from the city please let me know, Gnangarra 15:04, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Just so all know, the 37 bus leaves Perth at 6:35am (from Sherwood Court on St Georges Terrace stand R/S) and arrives near the terminus at 6:43am. This might be too early for some though - I'm not absolutely certain I'd get there on time for this bus. Orderinchaos 17:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Wow - that grew quickly! And I'm starting to even see real names I know from the past. This should be quite a gathering! Orderinchaos 03:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

UserBox

Maybe we should comission a user box that says something like "I met Jimbo at the Perth wikimeetup April 24 2007" Gnangarra 03:31, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

If you append that with "... and all I got was this crappy userbox!" then i'll be sticking that up straight away LOL. Thewinchester (talk) 04:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
I met Jimbo for early breakfast at the WP:WA WikiMeetup... and all I got was this userbox

User:Gnangarra/Userbox/Perth Meetup 2 Here's a commerative userbox from the meeting, feel free to adjust. Once we're happy with the wording I'll adjust for JimboGnangarra 06:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Execellent. That's already in my userpage userbox list. Thewinchester (talk) 06:51, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I made a slight adjustment to mine. User:Fred.e/Awards
I think that we can refer this as the early breakfast, as Jimbo said that this is the meeting at the earliest time of day, lol. Shinjiman 15:41, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Transport

slight issue, but everyone will be either arriving slightly early or slightly late. I'm happy to split a cab (or maxitaxi) depending on numbers from the City or Maylands with any other PT users. Thewinchester (talk) 04:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Check the route 43 timetables now that TP has taken the warning of interruptions and changes down. The Bus will either get you there for 12:00 or 2:30. Please indicate if you need assistance getting to the venue. I'll be able pick a couple people up on way there. Gnangarra 08:34, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
If i attend, i will be able to take some passengers....if youre willing to put your life in the hands of a P-plater :) Just send me an email closer to the date Twenty Years 09:20, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Minors

I know we all had a massive discussion about this before, but I might attend (unsure atm), and am underage (at that time i will be 17.5), if this causes problems for people i am more than willing not to attend, but i am just flagging my intention to attend here, and that if people are going to have an issue with that, to please leave a message here. Thanks all. Twenty Years 13:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

You are welcome to attend. —Moondyne 07:45, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Next meetup/Perth/4

I'd be interested in attending. Powderbark2 03:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Perth/4

Minors

I would like to know whether minors would be welcome at the next event, regarding Twenty Years' previous attendance. I probably would not go until I am older by a year or two if approved, though. Auroranorth 10:31, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

For me personally, I'd prefer not to have unaccompanied minors at these events, but others have expressed a more liberal view. Its possible that Perth/4 will end up at a licensed venue, in which case it becomes more tricky. The bottom line is, no-one has any authority to stop anyone else attending, and you can be assured that all Wikipedians in good standing will be welcomed courteously. —Moondyne 15:11, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Location

The location for the meeting is the doors to the Alexander Library? Can we think of somewhere more specific with more seating? - Mark 15:07, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll contact the library and see if when can get a meeting room but they arent answering the phone at the moment. Gnangarra 15:12, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Another possibility is one of the many cafes at Northbridge, we could get a table there pretty easily by booking a couple of days ahead. Orderinchaos 16:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll wait until after Fridays IRC meeting to see whether there is any need for formal discussions about WM-au as this would influence the type venue. Gnangarra 14:47, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Date/time

Given only three of us have responded affirmatively, along with Moondyne's unfortunate injury and my business with week-before-uni stuff, I think it may be a wise choice to consider deferral. What say others? Orderinchaos 20:10, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm up for it. Is 3 a quorum? —Moondyne 10:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I owe some shouts I'll probably be there SatuSuro 10:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
OK it's on then. Just making sure. :) Orderinchaos 10:31, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Photos people, photos!

Where are they? :-) Timeshift (talk) 12:50, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry no picts, it was a northbridge meetup so keeping in line with its media reputation we met only in dark alleys, and drank only in seedy establishments with poor lighting then adjourned to a cafe where the local underworld figures prohibit photographs. Gnangarra
Oh and I didnt bring a camera cause I had other stuff to do before hand, but why let a good story impede on reality :) Gnangarra 13:02, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

November

from Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Perth
Think there might be a good idea to have one before end of year maybe mid november is the best idea so far SatuSuro 05:32, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
That would work too as long as our uni students don't have exams at the time, but they tend to be earlier in November now than they used to be. Orderinchaos 05:49, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Mid to end of November is fine for me. Dan arndt (talk) 04:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Thats it lets nail this down 29 Nov either at the james st entrance to the state library or Fremantle Arts centre. Gnangarra 05:52, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Being a south of the river boy the Fremantle Arts Centre would be great. Dan arndt (talk) 06:16, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
good on ya. Moondyne 06:20, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
So this means then that no one is interested in a week or two before the 29th of November? SatuSuro 06:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I would be. As long as it's not the 22nd, as I have exams immediately thereafter. Orderinchaos 04:05, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
That'd be fine with me too. Graham87 07:53, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Its about time we had another meetup since our last one was 29 November 2008. Gnangarra 03:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC) Any suggestions given the last meetup was over 12 months ago.... Dan arndt (talk) 02:18, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. I'm up for a meetup, although I'm busy this week and the upcoming weekend. Where should we meet up? Orderinchaos 12:30, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

When

Suggest Saturday 3rd October, in the arvo(late lunch 13:00). Gnangarra 03:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Sounds okay but will have to turn up later (dependent on location) due to comitments with the kids. Dan arndt (talk) 01:19, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Since I proposed this I have become aware of two events in the city centre which would also be of interest the first Government house open day on the 18th October 11am-430pm, the second is Heritage Day 15th November in which a number of building inc the town hall, the maj, and old treasury are open to tours. Maybe we could consider a meetup to parallel one of these. Gnangarra 08:54, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Well it came and went & I didn't hear anything.... Dan arndt (talk) 02:19, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Where

I thing we should adventure to the outer metro region, we've met in City(Library x2, Kings Park), Freo(arts centre) and Maylands(Tranby House).

  • Sounds good. In the same vein, how about Araluen Botanic Park? What are the noise levels like at Jandakot Airport? Graham87 13:01, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
  • Well, according to this, it should be Craigie High School, Challenge Stadium, or perhaps outside Neale Fong's house. Other options include Casuarina Prison or somewhere with a lot of banksias... My preference would be Yanchep because I'd like a chocolate koala and it's less travel for me than the other suggestions. Haha. However, there's quite a lot of stuff at John Forrest to photograph and write about, and with the recent discussions about the history of WA articles, I like that the article was started in 2002 by a Belgian. (I have been a great help to this discussion, I'm sure. ;) Somno (talk) 02:06, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
I love the Neale Fong's house idea. :) Orderinchaos 02:49, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Transport

Given if we head further from the city access will become an issue but I'd be happy to pick some people up on the way there, so do not let lack of public transport access stop you suggesting a venue. Gnangarra 03:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

  • I probably will need to call on that - alternately maybe we should have a mini meetup at somewhere fairly central then all go out together to the meetup for an intended time, and those who wish to go directly there can also do so. Would that work? Orderinchaos 03:32, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Venue

I was at the Raffles yesterday arvo and it was crowded and loud and I think unsuitable for our purposes. We need a new venue. –Moondyne 03:57, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Random suggestion - what's Alfred's Kitchen like in that sense? Orderinchaos 06:08, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
nah - not exactly a relaxing quiet location - needs to be more near cbd to be equitable to variant domiciles - perhaps? or otherwise freo? just go out of range :) SatuSuro 06:17, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Have you guys given Little Creatures in Freo any consideration? Its resonably relaxing and spacious, and can be accessed by train. Calistemon (talk) 06:23, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Several of us used that for an informal meetup one time when Casliber was in town. Worked well. Hesperian 06:27, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

All such institutions always have water and orange and lemonade for a variety of reasols like that SatuSuro 13:19, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't drink at all and the pub venues we've had in the past have been fine in that way. Orderinchaos 02:45, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
  • see what happens when one gets side tracked I missed this, IMHO Little creatures on the water in Freo on a saturday arvo(temp in the mid 30's) will be impossible for more than 4-5 people to meet at. Gnangarra 14:48, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Forecast's currently high 20s for Saturday. Orderinchaos 12:30, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
SatuSuro valiantly sacrificed last sunday(and himself) to inspect the venue, after sampling all the beers, a selection of softdrinks and pizzas he says that if we can obtain an outside table it should be fine. Gnangarra 03:41, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Just gotta make sure whoever gets the first snaffles a 'large' table.Dan arndt (talk) 06:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
SatuSuro's dedication and commitment to this project are a shining light to all of us! Hope he didn't feel to unwell the next day! Well, if we can't get a table we can always drink cheap gin out of a brown paper bag in the park next door. Calistemon (talk) 09:13, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

I think Creatures is a great idea; there's good wireless reception most parts of it too, if that's a consideration at all. Will someone have some sort of sign or somesuch? :-) — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 13:51, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Ask at the door LC has really good staff greeting and seating people they'll know where to find us. Gnangarra 04:04, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Aftermath

It was great, to finally put faces to the familiar WA editors and meet in person. Thanks for the free T-shirt! Calistemon (talk) 12:00, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

  • It was great to catchup with everybody, there we were taking about articles that needed photographs and Little Creatures (brewery) needed some, I got one of the pizza oven but nothing of the venue looks like we'll have to go back there again ;) Gnangarra 13:09, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
    • Maybe we could get a "backstage pass" to tour the microbrewery bit of it? :) Orderinchaos 13:19, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, absolutely: a great afternoon; good to meet you all. I'm excited about the possibilities of collaboration between us and the Fremantle Society (hmm... redlink eh? I'm really not doing my bit yet am I? I'll get on to that). • Count me in. Might I suggest the cafe at the state library as a suitable venue? — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 11:37, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
On consensus of several of the participants, the discussion was archived as - a - it wasn't leading to a meetup per the topic of this page and - b - strayed into a range of other topics best kept to a meetup rather than public online discussion. Orderinchaos 10:56, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

suggestion

It is clear that some soapboxing has broken out here - and I must apologise for being involved - I do think we need to get back to focus on whether a general social meetup is possible in August without anything on the agenda other than a catchup and meetup - anything further really needs to be pursued elsewhere SatuSuro 10:11, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

  • Yes, absolutely. Let's just have a nice, non-political, get-together. I brought up the library only because it's a nice cafe, and we all like the sort of place it is (politics aside)! They do have lots of PD stuff, and they've never minded me sitting there with a digital camera photographing stuff; so I might go and do a bit more of that, one side or t'other of the meetup.  ;-) — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 10:47, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
  • I have enough on my plate at work so my preference is a social gathering & besides SatuSuro owes me a beer. Dan arndt (talk) 02:18, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

venue

Any suggestions? Preferably somewhere not too expensive which sells beer :p Orderinchaos 03:29, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

I'd vote for Little Creatures again! But perhaps somewhere in the city would be better, from the transport point of view. I don't know Perth pubs. — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 03:57, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Someone really has to stick his/her head out at some stage, and suggest a pub in Perth, so here goes - I think the nearest pub to the State Library that bears any resemblance to Little Creatures is the Brass Monkey. What about that? Bahnfrend (talk) 05:26, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Great. 4PM Saturday August 20th (to pluck a slightly random time out of the aether)? — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 05:43, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
I think that the Great Western (Brass Monkey) Hotel would be a great venue - close to public transport & parking... Dan arndt (talk) 07:47, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
The only problem with Brass Monkey (having been at one meetup there in 2007) is that it's rather loud / difficult to hold a conversation there. Looking at other places, though, everything is incredibly expensive or is out of the way, so it may well be the only choice. I'd also propose slightly earlier - say 2:30pm on Saturday. Orderinchaos 13:27, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Given that it's this weekend, and it'd be good to get word out to people who aren't watching this page — is there consensus for 2:30PM on the 20th at the Brass Monkey? — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 06:35, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

I can support that. If someone comes up with something better, they'd better be quick :) Orderinchaos 06:47, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I can't make until about 4pm - so hopefully you'll stick around for a couple of hours before I get there. Dan arndt (talk) 07:22, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
We all tend to be fashionably late no matter what time is agreed upon, so that's fine :) Orderinchaos 07:26, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, absolutely. It's a pub!  ;-) — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 07:32, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Spam!

I just spammed pretty much everyone in Category:Wikipedians in Perth; hope no one minds.  :-) I left out users who hadn't contributed for more than a couple of years. — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 08:03, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

There are probably quite a few people in Category:Wikipedians in Western Australia who are also from Perth, but are not in the Perth subcat. Graham87 15:01, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I figured there might be, but there's lots more users there, and now I'll have to check for duplicates; I might do it this afternoon.  :-) What is the quick way to do this sort of invitation? — Sam Wilson ( TalkContribs ) … 05:09, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
IIRC you could use AWB to send out all the invitations relatively quickly. Graham87 09:47, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

  • an area set up in the Tourist Centre for us to chat to people about what we are doing
  • a song and dance number to officially launch the Toodyaypedia project in the town hall
  • a couple of other events being discussed including an official wizz bang launch

Can we have some definite details please, either here or via e-mail, so we (individually or collectively) can plan our day. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:39, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

  • principally the area in the tourist centre for the day(need to check times ~10-4) and lunch/coffee at the bakery at 13:30, there will also be a treasure hunt that incorporates toodyaypedia codes running on the day with the end point being the tourist centre. Agreed. Parlapa is a nice place, just opposite the town hall on William Street at about 32°03′16″S 115°44′52″E / 32.054434°S 115.747639°E / -32.054434; 115.747639. Some of the cafes on the main strip can get quite chockers at 1 pm maybe? Sam Wilson 00:53, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
concerned re noise - so agree with mitch. JarrahTree 14:39, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
Sure, less noise is better. I'm fine with Sam's suggestion – shall we put that on the meetup page? - Evad37 [talk] 01:22, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:50, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

So... where's it to be? Someone said they had a place in mind I think, but I've forgotten it. —Sam Wilson 08:51, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
