St. James High School Fine Arts

Good Morning,

I'm a member of the Fine Arts Department at St. James High School. You deleted our previous Fine Arts entry, and said our things were "unnotable." You are most likely comparing Athletics to Fine Arts. Please update your criteria for judging these articles.

Top awards for Music Ensemlbes are not equivalent to Top Awards for athletics. All-County, Region, State participation, and Superior Ratings for ensembles are basically the top awards for music. Music is completley different than atheltics in how it's assessed.

I updated the page appropriately again. Please don't undo, or delete any of the changes I made.

Yo, I'm relitivley new to editing wiki pages, and you know more than me about dormating highschool wikipedia pages. I made some changes to the Savannah Arts Academy page, and am asking you to check my work and fix any sloppy edits I might have made. School Infoboxes

Good Afternoon GEICOgecko,

I notice that you're part of WikiProject Schools, and I wanted to ask what a "good infobox" looks like for a school's article. What should be added, what shouldn't be added and what should be removed?

@Universes Karma: go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_school#Parameters for advice on what each field of the infobox means. In general, I'd say fill in as many fields as you want, as the fields wouldn't have been created if they weren't something to add. The one big exception to this, don't add redundant fields (i.e., when two fields has the same value, and do not add significant value being written twice). There will also be some apparent exceptions to this, for example the latin_name field shouldn't be added to most American school infoboxes because the latin name for a school is irrelevant. There are also potential cultural differences where certain information becomes irrelevant to the school.

For the website field (the field with the school's website), it is best to make sure the whole url shows (as opposed to making a link that is represented with other words, like this). The user should know exactly what they are clicking on, such as this: www.paly.net.

With the exception of sports (at least in American schools), don't clutter the the infobox with long lists too much. For example, one thing I see a lot, in the rival_schools field, people will list all of the schools in the county/conference, which is not desired.

Here is an example of an infobox I've worked on that I'd say is pretty much complete. Notice the kinds of things that are cited: enrollment, student-to-teacher ratio, and other stats that is good and/or important to cite. In particular, it is standard to cite NCES school ID, enrollment size, student-to-teacher ratio, and teaching staff with the school's NCES webpage. Sometimes, other people also may challenge claims made in infoboxes. Whenever that happens, by Wikipedia guidelines/policies, the content must be cited, no matter the kind of information.
