Thank you[edit]

Thank you for supporting my adminship — I vow to use my super powers (well, my mop) for good not evil. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:21, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • This is not suggesting a hierarcal system.
  • It will be used only by users who want to use it.
  • Only ranking will be assigend to users who want to use it.
  • The idea ment to make it like barn stars, but based on regular contribution.
  • It is currently a prototype, likely that it is nothing like the final version.

I urge you to reconsider your vote based on this clarification. Thanks --Cool Cat My Talk 08:43, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

ranking[edit]

it was requested to be moved from barnstars to this project. several users had the liberty of suggesting ideas which wont far fetch "chilidish vandalism". the voting was premature. The project has a future if people start suggesting. Declaring it hierarcal is not right like some users did. Things can only be usefull if people make them usefull after all :) --Cool Cat My Talk 16:04, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nicely spoken[edit]

Plaudits for your observations at Talk:Mark Geier. The article is very nearly functioning as a POV fork of those others.

12 inches redirect[edit]

I guess my US public school education's good for something after all. ;) In general, when patrolling the speedy cat I try to remember to consider less drastic alternatives to deleting articles. Niteowlneils 23:38, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Vaccine articles[edit]

Hi. Haven't been ignoring you, just taking time to review the 'special master' link, etc. After an attack by the dread gatesian blue screen, an error crept into the reconstructed first draft of the Andrew Wakefield article last month, so evisceration of that article after many hours of work (preceded by trashing of contributins to the ADHD article and followed by a series of questionable revisions to vaccine articles) has served as a harsh introduction to Wikipolitics. Nevertheless, your attempts to inject reason and rationality into the articles have rekindled appreciation for the great value of the Wiki. As for the 'special master', after review the concerns appear valid and probably worth inclusion. Yet the apparent arrogance displayed in the documents is reminiscent of the lengthy battle chiropractors fought and won against the AMA, and of the problems that engendered the Post-Autistic Economics movement, and the avoidance of scientific input described in this months Scientific American editorial.[1]

As you mentioned, the many issues just pertaining to Dr. Geier's article are already unweildy. Your approach has appeared to be to take the high road, so please accept this as an expression of appreciation.

As for the Wakefield article, after looking into a complaint about the date referenced in the article for the MMR introduction in the UK, more serious concerns came to light from the Melanie Philips article that was being referenced, and the incorrect decade gleaned, had been replaced by the blue screen. About when an earlier MMR was pulled from Canada, 1989, it was nevertheless introduced in the UK left on the market there for three years.[2] The issue as it should have been addressed was the restrictions blocking access to single jabs about a decade later. Will try to help sort it all out; your continued objectivity will be much appreciated. Ombudsman 03:07, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Xiong[edit]

Hi there! Because the RFC about Xiong seemed to deal mainly on his disagreements with Netoholic, I thought it best to start a new RFC to see if people have comments on Xiong's behavior that do not relate to Netoholic. Please give your thoughts and/or opinion on that at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Xiong. Radiant_* 08:26, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)

Polgahawela level crossing collision/Temp[edit]

I have started a temp version of the above, as you suggest.

There are already lots of crossreferences and links.

I am combining the non-unique facts from various sources, with a lot of "alledgedly" and "said to have" because early infomation tends to be unreliable.

Please have a look an de-temp it if and when you are happy.

Masts[edit]

Thanks, I'll look into it. Radiant_* 07:16, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC)

  • Excellent idea. By the way do you think you can convince Klonimus that the point to merging is improved accessibility of information, and that there is no 'honor' to be had for a mast to have its own article? It would help if he would refine his viewpoints a bit. I'd talk to him myself but he thinks I am t3h 3vil. Radiant_* 11:07, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC)

Please review pH indicators and related compounds[edit]

Hello, I just saw something that seems inconsistent with some pH indicators, i.e. methyl violet and Congo red. In pH indicators (page in which you have contributed), their behavior is said to be the opposite to what their respective articles state, i.e. from methyl violet "At the acid end of its measuring range, it takes on a yellow color. At the alkaline end, it becomes bluish-violet.". However, pH indicators states "Color at low pH: Blue, Color at high pH: yellow" (in a tabulated format). Something similar happens with Congo red. I was planning to rise the issue in the discussion page of pH indicators, but I saw that you have lots of contributions in chemistry, so I better ask directly.--Paiconos 22:37, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Klonimus and Jesus VfD[edit]

I have no idea how to interpret his vote. I am well aware of his inclusionist votes, most of which I find equally baffling. I think this particular VfD would be best served by a unanimous string of keeps that plainly give the sensible reasons why the article should be kept. I don't mind ironic remarks but I don't think an actual "delete" vote is helpful here. I am completely unsure of whether he thinks that the situation is so obvious that his vote will be understood as ironic, or whether in fact he is a troll who just enjoys casting annoying votes. Or is a supporter whomever nominated Jesus for deletion. Or is collaborating with whomever nominated Jesus in disrupting Wikipedia to illustrate a point.

And, yes, I am aware that my comment was a painfully clear explanation of the obvious. Dpbsmith (talk) 14:13, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I left out one of the notable frauds he's currently committing on English Wikipedia. His user page is an extensive list of random Hebrew and English words, the purpose of which is meant to pull in people from search engines. He also committed this act on the Hebrew Wikipedia, and the admins there explained what he did (translation):

This page contained, until September 30, 2004, a list of words whose purpose was to pull in random surfers from the internet. This list could've caused Wikipedia heavy damage, for search engines do not act with forgiveness towards attempts to cheat them. Because of this, [an admin on Hebrew Wikipedia] was forced to clean out this page, and to lock it.

In the Hebrew wiki, this fraud led to his page appearing as sixth or seventh when searching for common words in Hebrew. They didn't take this lightly, and neither should we. --brian0918™ 19:21, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What are you asking for on the RfC page? Do you want his user page translated completely? Here's a section of it:

How did I become on trial? This was brought to our attention by User:Danny who provided a rough translation and elaborated it on Haham hanuka's 2nd Request for Adminship. I've got about 3-4 different people who know Hebrew independently confirming the content of his user page. As for confirming it yourself, all you have to do is copy stuff from his English user page or Hebrew user page and paste it into this free online translator (I promise, I didn't write the translator as part of any master plan :)). Unfortunately the translator only lets you do small chunks of text, but you can get around that by clearing your Cookie cache between each translation. --brian0918™ 01:29, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Welcome message[edit]

Hey, thanks a ton for taking a detailed look at that. I'm not particularly good at all this markup stuff, and I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with it for a while now. Originally, it was working--a nice, blue background with a list of open tasks on the side was there--but I think someone changed the Opentask template, which screwed it all over. Unfortunately, my wikipediaholism has been wearing down of late, so I've never really gotten around to creating even a substitute. Maybe I'll be able to restore it to its former glory in the near future. :) Anyways, thanks again for the help! --pie4all88 02:38, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

blah[edit]

Thanks for the nice note... and you're right, again, about irrelevant creep onto the VfU page -- but that's his MO and why he's generated so much text about the article. My mistake was in letting him goad me into another back and forth about my own opinions. (We've done it on the article's talk page too.) I am just so incredulous about the whole thing! · Katefan0(scribble) 21:06, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

NPOVing help needed[edit]

Ten, your dedication to impartiality is much needed at the new autism epidemic article. The basic outline seems valid, but sharp eyes like yours would certainly help provide assurance the article gets off to a good start. Your insights are always much appreciated. • Thanks for your contributions to the above article, and for the heads up on the Edward Yazbak VfD. Ombudsman 01:12, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I just made the policy discussion page in the title - now how do I list it on the vfd daily header? Will it show up automatically, or is some step required on my part? -- BD2412 thimk 00:31, 2005 May 6 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the information - I certainly hope some kind of workable policy arises from this! -- BD2412 thimk 01:39, 2005 May 6 (UTC)

Thanks for placing the reminder to move after VfD on the talk page; such things help. :-) Mindspillage (spill yours?) 05:44, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Towers[edit]

Hi there! It seems that the 'ayes' have it on your merge-the-towers proposal. Should we call for volunteers to do it? It does seem to be a lot of work but with creative copy/pasting it should be possible in a relatively short time. Radiant_* 14:08, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

Possible copyright violations[edit]

Hello! I'm fairly new to Wikipedia and contributed several articles that you recently flagged as possible copyright violations. You are quite right that they were edited from the links that I included at the bottoms of the articles, and of course I had no intent to violate any copyrights. Are they indeed infringements? Could you point me towards something that gives clear guidance on how to create articles that do not violate copyrights? Cheers & thanks.

explaination[edit]

hey man, i wasn't trying to threaten anyone and i did express my thought in a polite way- I can't conceal the fact that it irritated me. The person who started all this (Jerzy~t) did it out of spite. I said was sorry if i caused any confusion, which has been the most civil act since this whole process begun.

Thank you for your time in explaining to me the banal details of this corrupt process. I'll admit that I made some strong statements about Jerzy- however, he initiated the conflict. Now there are even more delete votes than before, no doubt through the proliferation of his motive. He keeps blocking my friend who is the real author of that article. It's really sad because so often people take the little bit of authority the have and abuse it. I was implying that I would notify the Arbcom people about his behavior. Let me tell you pal, if you think that was bad you haven't seen uncivil yet. And if you think mentioning that I work at a hospital is of some relevance, think again. You sound like a well-educated individual, but don't act like you know me- that's obnoxious. When somone acts like a jerk (Jerzy, not you), I will tell it like it is. Oh, and I do hope you don't misconstrue my straight forwardness for 'incivility'. Tparker393 21:45, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I again thank you for taking time to address my concerns. I can tell you are different from most of the people i've encountered here. I'll take your advice because i do believe this person is out of line. I'll try to keep my emotions in check. I may contact you again. Tparker393 23:59, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
