Helpful?[edit]

Was my reply here helpful? I put quite a bit of effort into it. Did I write anything extremely unpopular? Best wishes, SergeWoodzing (talk) 12:08, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've just looked at your response, and I'd like to thank you for taking the time to write me back in such detail. You provided lots of meaningful information, which I will surely use when designing my curriculum. Thanks,NeuropolTalk 15:13, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since we're doing unsolicited advice[edit]

You're definitely coming off as a bit of a jerk on CL's talk page. Also, apologies that start out "so if..." aren't really apologies. Floquenbeam (talk) 15:04, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
My intention in establishing communication with this user had been simply to notify them over their inconsistent warning patterns, as I noticed a user with a prior reverted edit and no warning from them, and a small pattern of such.
Upon the user's reaction, which certainly exhibited an observably provocative tone, including an unrelated, uncivil remark about my user page ("...like some assistant-under-acting-vice-deputy banana republic general"), I was certainly surprised, but my succeeding action was intended to close my statement (simply make a suggestion), and to ease the tone by 1. acknowledging the humor of their insult, and 2. apologizing for any misinterpreted tone. If anything I said did not come off in a negative tone, then there is nothing to apologize for, which is why I included the word if.
I do not believe in "unsolicited advice" here. Like any other user who intentionally or unintentionally, may need a "push in the right direction" (i.e. a lighthearted and explanatory notice about warnings), experienced or otherwise, I sent this user a notice, and decided to hand-type a message instead of using a template per WP:DTTR. When the user rejected my advice, I used that response in order to clear up any miscommunication in my tone, and to digress. My intention is not to be aggressive or authoritative, and I welcome your input, and will further review what alternative actions or phrases I could have constructed in order to prevent a similar issue.
Thank you for your notice, and I appreciate any further input, questions, or concerns you may have, for the purpose of improvement. Thanks,NeuropolTalk 15:21, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This response feels eerily ChatGPTish? But, anyway, OK. You were unsuccessful in what you were trying to do, and if your takeaway here is that their response was the one that was provocative, I don't have the patience to help you more. If you were open to an outside opinion, I provided one. If you're not, then I'll keep this short. See Teaching grandmother to suck eggs. --Floquenbeam (talk) 15:41, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
