OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to List of digital television channels in Australia.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! AnomieBOT 10:47, 27 June 2017 (UTC) If you do not wish to receive this message in the future, add {{bots|optout=AnomieBOT-OrphanReferenceFixer}} to your talk page.

Hi. In your edits, you have accidentally listed the same reference twice, my edit intended to restore the connection to the first occurrence of that reference but I did not notice that the tag was not present on the first occurrence. I have now corrected my mistake and have restored my intended edits. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 10:55, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

iPhone OS 3

Hello

I am calling about our little dispute in iPhone OS 3.

The first thing you must know is that according to reversion policy, all reversion MUST have an edit summary unless they are blatant vandalism.

Now would you please be so kind to tell me why do you specify 270px for image that is no bigger than 258px?

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 08:08, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

@Codename Lisa: Hi. I apologise for not seeing that I had reverted the screenshot size in my edit. I had intented to only restore the consistent sizing of the icon logo in the infobox that you had removed. I take pride in my editing and try be as careful as possible when restoring unreasonably deleted/altered content and keeping to policy, however in this particular instance, I unintentionally overlooked this edit. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
P.S. Please note that I have once again restored the icon logo sizing to its previous proportion, but have maintained your screenshot sizing.
Regards. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 08:17, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Well, I guess I can live with that, even though the standard icon size in Wikipedia is 64px. I personally like consistency.
Best regards,

Adelaide suburban railway edits

How strange. I was thinking of seeking your opinion before making this edit, but didn't think it was worthy of bothering you. I'm amused that it was you who reverted it! Obviously I should follow my instincts!!
Changing topics ...
Have you got any idea why Belair railway line doesn't have a "proper" list of stations?
(And while I've got you on the line ... ) Can you explain why the infoboxes of all the suburban lines only have a partial list of stations?
Thanks in advance, Pdfpdf (talk) 09:59, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi. There's nothing wrong with making WP:BOLD edits if you believe it will add value to the article, in fact, Wikipedia encourages it. Don't sweat over it.
I am not sure why the routemap template for the Belair railway line is not included, thanks for picking that one up I've added it back now. As for lists of stations, can you please clarify what you mean by there is only a "partial" list? – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 10:57, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
The "|stations" field in the "{{Infobox rail line", on all of the Adelaide "railway line" pages, only contains a partial list of stations, with no explanation of why those particular stations that appear are in the list. Pdfpdf (talk) 11:19, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
My honest answer, I'm not quite sure. I believe that it was intended to be a list of major stations, but the field is intended to show the number of operational stations. I am updating the infoboxes of all current suburban lines right now. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 13:04, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Car Flag of the Prime Minister of Australia (converted).png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:25, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

The Gifted title card

Hi. The title card shown in the infobox of this article was taken directly from one of the episodes, so it is from the show itself and not any promotional still. Simply watching the show confirms this. It was chosen over the title card from the first episode since it has been used in every other episode, so in the scope of the whole series it makes more sense to use the one from almost every episode. Since the other one just applies to the first episode, it is used at the article for that episode ("eXposed"). Also, for future reference, it is generally regarded good practice to simply update the existing file with a new version if an update is indeed required, as that keeps track of the changes (and reasons for doing so) in one place. You can find the link to do this in the 'File history' section of a given image page. Thanks, adamstom97 (talk) 11:06, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

I am proposing that on the page that you previously worked on, list of sovereign states and dependent territories in Asia, that Palestine be merged into the main category to be renamed un member and observer states, taiwan be in a separate category as substantial, but limited recognition state, and the 4 de facto states and dependent territories remain untouched. Since July this year I have been working on converting {{s-line}} templates in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to Adjacent stations. Sydney and Brisbane are now completer except Sydney has just had its last lot of old templates nominated for deletion [1] while for Brisbane I still need to nominate two lots over the next couple of weeks as time permits. Still some work to do on Melbourne. I am now starting to think about Adelaide where I know less about the rail network although I travelled on it in March this year just as coronavirus broke. I think for Adelaide one Adjacent Stations module would suffice for both trains and tram, although you may think we need to do separate ones. Also see[2] - those in red have been completed while other Australian ones except TransAdelaide, are being worked on. Module:Adjacent stations/Queensland Rail is a sample module for Queensland rail which is replacing all style, color lines, station, s-left and s-right templates for Queensland rail. If you think I should do the Adelaide conversion, I could probably start on it towards the end of January. Fleet Lists (talk) 06:08, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Adelaide Metro colourbox template issue

Hey there! As the Flinders line has opened, replacing the Tonsley line, the colour code and name for the Tonsley line needs to be replaced with the Flinders line name and colour. Do you happen to know or know someone who knows how to change the name and colour of the Tonsley line to the Flinders line in the colourbox? I tried to do it myself, but it didn’t work as I think there’s another separate template that it relies on. Sorry, I’m not familiar with how the SA public transport templates work as they are different from my familiar NSW ones. Also, this is because in List of railway stations in Adelaide, the links to Tonsley line in the Railway line(s) column of the table need to be changed. westrail/wagr mix

I thought merges usually required at least a discussion somewhere, just as a part of process... JarrahTree 12:42, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

@JarrahTree: Hello. It's my understanding that discussions are encouraged but not always required for page merges, particularly in cases of stub articles and overlap. I took the WP:BOLD step that since the articles cover the same topics and contain overlap, particularly for Western Australian Government Railways Commission which only consisted of a single paragraph of information that was already covered in the main WAGR article (since they're the same topic). In the case of Westrail, in addition to overlapping information, the very first sentence of the article lead stated that Westrail was the trading name of the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) from September 1975 until December 2000. My judgment call was to merge the articles based on these facts, as is permitted. I apologise if I have ruffled any feathers, that was not my intention. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 12:59, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

No such thing as feathers in Perth - they have been frozen off... The big problem with claiming that westrail and wagr were the same is a major misonomer as the network and organisational structure of the system that wagr was in charge of was drastically changed with the change to westrail - cheese and chalk historically, regardless of the editors and their editing the actual 'content' of the administration, and the policies that saw the massive removal of wagr era structures, and rolling stock - and general practices - as very lovingly rendered by Fred in Affleck, Fred (1978). On Track: The making of Westrail 1950 - 1976. Affleck, Fred N; Clark, Bill; Western Australian Government Railways Commission (1978), On track : the making of Westrail, 1950 to 1976, Department of Conservation & the Environment, West, ISBN 978-0-7244-7560-5 suggests that the merge is well intentioned by the first reading of what is in the articles, but is a very distant appropriation of what really happened. But then, the stages of the transition are well beyond simple renderings. It is hardly something that could be easily argued, without a close reading of some of the more salient evidence and issues of the two modes of the operation.

I once knew a rail historian who could from the top of his head render the explanation of the two modes of operation with erudite and eloquent brevity - but sadly, not in contact any more. JarrahTree 13:16, 28 June 2021

Insufficient input from other editors, and quite misleading content (which misled you for a start)- I believe it should be reverted and discussed further JarrahTree 03:53, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

@JarrahTree: I would advise next time you revert a merge you revert it properly; you reverted the WAGR article but missed the Westrail article. I have reverted the Westrail article and have opened a discussion here. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 08:28, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for that - I was going to leave it alone - I have low confidence in actually attracting third or fourth parties to the discussion, so few interested and so few editors left these days. The discussion has been provided with a well explained perspective from your effort - thanks and well done! JarrahTree 09:38, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

RfD nomination notifications

Hey, I noticed you nominated quite a few redirects pages but you failed to notify the users of your nominations. Please remember to do so, as it's important that those who created pages be aware when said pages are nominated for deletion. Please see WP:RFD#HOWTO for further info. Can you please add to every television channel in Australia that has been discontinued this category Category:Defunct Australian television channels. Bassie f (talk) 09:23, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Just letting you know someone added the Network 10 logo to the MDV (TV station) article

Eyesnore added the Network 10 logo to the MDV (TV station) article, it breaks WP:NFC#UUI §17 so can you or I please revert his changes, just letting you know. Bassie f (talk) 05:41, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

I reverted his changes a hour ago. Bassie f (talk) 08:24, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

user:Eyesnore put the Seven Network logo in all of Seven’s metropolitan TV stations articles

Eyesnore added the Seven Network logo to all of Seven’s metropolitan TV stations articles, therefore he put the logo in the ATN, HSV (TV station), BTQ, SAS (TV station) and TVW articles. It also breaks WP:NFC#UUI 17, so can you or I please revert his changes tomorrow. From Bas. Bassie f (talk) 21:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

@Bassie f: I added the file to those pages because the file is available on Wikimedia Commons, not a claim of "fair use". Eyesnore 00:08, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Because the file is on Wikimedia Commons, WP:NFC#UUI does not apply. Eyesnore 00:12, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
@Bassie f: In the time it takes you to write these demands on my talk page, you can easily make the edits yourself. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 02:50, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey Nick Mitchell 98

Hey Nick Mitchell 98 can you please look at the Southern Cross 9 RfD discussion and leave a comment on that discussion in a few hours. From Bas. Bassie f (talk) 03:34, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey Nick Mitchell 98, do you have what’s in my description

Hey Nick Mitchell 98, do you have a list of pages that previously targeted Southern Cross Nine and Nine (Southern Cross Austereo). Both were redirects to 10 (Southern Cross Austereo) until August of this year. Thanks, from Bas/Bassie f Bassie f (talk) 03:47, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

I meant to say Southern Cross Nine was a redirect to 10 (Southern Cross Austereo) until I changed the target to NWS (TV station) in August of this year where it still redirects today while Nine (Southern Cross Austereo) still redirects to 10 (Southern Cross Austereo) to this day. Bas’s mistake. Bassie f (talk) 03:53, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Can you please assist me while copying stuff from other articles

Dear @Nick Mitchell 98, can you please assist me while copying stuff from other articles, for example, I want the Yesshop and SonLife Broadcasting Network information on 10 (Southern Cross Austereo), across multiple articles. Note: Per this [edit] to Seven (Southern Cross Austereo), which I did on 4 January 2023, I put the Yesshop information into that article.

The articles I propose you to help assist to copy the SonLife Broadcasting Network information from 10 (Southern Cross Austereo), are Seven (Southern Cross Austereo), NRN, SGS/SCN, and Southern Cross Austereo, as well as the Jimmy Swaggart article in the television section. The articles I propose you to help assist to copy the Yesshop information from 10 (Southern Cross Austereo), are NRN, SGS/SCN, and Southern Cross Austereo.

I require assist from you because after 8 edits is too enough edits for me on separate articles, unless I’m mass editing 1 article, for example, I mass edited the article Prime (New Zealand TV channel), today. I will copy the information itself, and you will add the copy notice to the source page, which is 10 (Southern Cross Austereo), and the target page, for example NRN. I chose NRN for using the SonLife Broadcasting Network information from the 10 (Southern Cross Austereo) article, because NRN carried SBN from 17 July 2017 until 31 August of the same year, as WIN Television took playout control of NRN on 1 September 2017, from Southern Cross Austereo.

Yours sincerely, Bas. From Bassie f (his talk page) 10:04, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
