Deleted?[edit]

I'm just curious. As being somewhat new to the Wiki editing side of things, maybe I completely misunderstood the system. But what was the point of us debating and providing evidence for two weeks straight in regards to The Protomen?

That was the article that sparked me to become an editor and since then I've been seeing a trend. Anyone involved on the delete side would never provide any sort of argument, they simply voted per nom delete. I was told it wasn't a vote. Don't get me wrong, I saw plenty of pointing of fingers and sockpuppet this and sockpuppet that.

But what makes no sense to me is the fact no argument, explanation, or evidence was EVER provided to say this band was not notable and clearly plenty was given to show that it did meet certain guidelines to have a home here on Wiki. I'm just curious - and I don't mean any disrespect when I say this, but was it your opinion that mattered all along - not ours? Or was it simply a vote?

It very much seems like this place is based off a "guilty until proven innocent" system. I really believe if you attack someones work it should be your job to explain why it should be deleted. I'd honestly like to understand, because I am now afraid the things that I would personally like to write about would simply be deleted.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Draxis (talkcontribs) 05:22, 2006 June 22

Hello Draxis, thanks for your message. I'm sorry for you that something you spend so much time on has been judged for deleteion. I don't know it it makes you feel any better or not, but your case is not exactly unique - it can happen to new editors and experienced editors alike.
Let me address deletion in a general sense first. We actually start with a presumption of keeping the article. If you want to read through other closed deletions,if it is a toss-up (or "no consensus") then the article gets kept. Articles about people (or people who have come together to form a band in this case) are interesting cases because there are so many people who would love to have an article written about them, or their best friend, or the cool band they saw last week. That is why we have notability guidelines like WP:BIO and WP:BAND.
Another thing about deletion is that people with brand new Wikipedia accounts coming to add to the debate are given different weight than long-standing accounts. As you say, this is not a vote. It is too easy for people to try to "stack the vote" with sock-puppets and by telling all their friends at school "hey, come help me here on Wikipedia".
In this particular case, we have an article that appears to fail WP:BAND. It has already been determined to be deleted by consensus previously. The oringial nominator explained both these two things. Others came and agreed wit the nominator. It is not necessary for them to give long explanations of why they agree with those two points - saying they agree with them is sufficient. The newly arrived editor comments were considered. Overall, no one voting "keep" made any argument that overcomes long-standing community standards (as embodied by WP:Band) and no evidence the band's notability has changed much since the last vote-for-deletion. That is why the article got deleted by consensus.
I hope you don't let this experience steer you away from Wikipedia. Instead, I hope you will take a closer look at our guidelines as to what sort of articles we are looking for. You may want to spend some time editting existing articles rather than taking a chance on something brand new right away.
If I can be any further assistance in explaining this action, or in helping you with anything else in Wikipedia, please let me know.
Thanks, Johntex\talk 14:52, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Johntex: Thanks for the wikifying of my stolensidekick.com article. I was a bit amazed that there was not already an article on the issue. Shawn Pickrell 19:04, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not know there was already an article that had been deleted. However, said VFD was 11 days ago (an eternity in terms of the lifespan of Internet memes) and has been picked up by larger media outlets. I have also included an example of Internet vigilantism that warranted a kept article, the (in)famous Dog poop girl. But at least I knew someone would call for its head straight away. College coach infobox[edit]

Hey Johntex, I thought I'd run this by you since you're on the Oklahoma WikiProject as well as the UT WikiProject. I created an infobox to use on collegiate coaches that differs slightly from the NFL PlayerCoach template. I thought I'd ask you to take a look at it and see what you think and determine if it is a need as I feel it is. The template is {{College coach infobox}} and I applied it to Bob Stoops to see the format.--NMajdantalk 19:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the Military history WikiProject![edit]

Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines outline some things to include.
  • Interested in working on a more complete article? The military history peer review and collaboration departments would welcome your help!
  • Interested in a particular area of military history? We have a number of task forces that focus on specific nations or periods.
  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every military history article in Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 06:12, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Texan Collaboration of the month[edit]

Texas needs your help!!

The good news is the most recent Texan Collaboration of the Month - Juneteenth has recently been featured on the Main Page! The bad news is that we chose this article six months ago and we haven't kept up to date with choosing and improving a new article.
This page is traditionally administered by Katefan0 and JCarriker, but since they are both semi-retired, Johntex is filling in. (Yet another reason to hope Katefan0 and JCarriker come back soon!!)
We are going to pick up right where we left off. Please visit Texan Collaboration of the Month and help select the new collaboration - we'll begin working on the selected article 1 July 2006.

Lemme know if you need any help with maintenance of this page or subpages.  :) Joe I 10:37, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

can you delete my user page please?[edit]

Hi John-

I saw that you left me a message a while back with the 5 pillars of Wikipedia...

I read them and realize that I had the wrong idea about what wikipedia was for and would like my userpage (and all it's history) deleted. I believe only an administrator can do so.

Please do that for me if you can.

I'm ashamed of my user page history and wish it was not on the internet.

Please help me if you can! thank you! Bret Pittman— Preceding unsigned comment added by Bret Pittman (talkcontribs) 12:06, 2006 June 27

Image:BCS national championship trophy and Bevo.JPG listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:BCS national championship trophy and Bevo.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. BigDT 01:07, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • FYI on this photo ... I saw where you had left a comment on IFD ... the general consensus I have seen from IFD has been that use of a TV show screenshot, corporate logo, magazine cover page, etc, anywhere but on the article for the show, company, or publication itself is not fair use. I could kinda see using it on the College football on television, but even then, it doesn't seem overly relevant to the topic inasmuch as a screenshot of Lee/Herbie/Chris would be more relevant to the show itself. BigDT 13:00, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I would suggest perhaps (1) reducing the resolution to 400x300 or something on that order to make it a "web resolution" screenshot as called for in {{tv-screenshot}}. You may even want to go so far as to delete the larger version so that someone doesn't revert to it. (2) Remove the image at least from trophy and Bevo (mascot), where it unambiguously is just illustrating the subject of the broadcast, rather than the broadcast itself. BigDT 14:44, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Hi BigDT, thanks for your suggestions. I agree with you that the connection to trophy is small. Perhaps if we had an article on this specific trophy, but we don't, so I'll remove it. Could you please take another look at Bevo (mascot)? The image is used there in the "public appearances" section and mentions the fact that it is the current Bevo - which we don't have another photo of. If we can agree on these changes and if I replace the image with a smaller one, would that address your concerns sufficiently for you to remove your listing at Images for Deletion? Thanks again for your help. Johntex\talk 14:55, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • I put a comment on IFD referencing this conversation ... I think it would be a good idea for a non-college football person to look at the issue. I don't know that it needs to be deleted given its use in College football on television ... but a third pair of eyes couldn't hurt. BigDT 15:40, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for editting some silly errors I had made when editting the entry for stolensidekick.com. Please do not insert random pictures of your favorite marching band onto the "marching band" article. There are literally thousands of bands that could have their picture placed next to the opening paragraph and everyone trys to do it. If you wish to move your picture next to an article with context (ie: the flag picture is with the auxillary groups, the high step picture is next to the marching style) please do so, but don't just put random pictures of your favorite band in the opening paragraph.

No problems. After a conversation with W.marsh on WT:DRV, I started notifying all closing admins of deletion reviews on their actions. It happened to me in the past, and it annoyed me, so I made a template. W.marsh noted that people were still not notifying admins, so I decided to look through all DRVs and let closing admins know. Yeah, I've noticed your excellent work closing AfDs, and like me, you don't usually skip over the tough AfDs. Excellent work buddy, looks like we're overlapping again. :-) --Deathphoenix ʕ 00:33, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New article needs images[edit]

Hi John, I started adding content to Forbes State Forest, Pennsylvania today, and I'll be doing more work on it later, hoping that it might be worth a DYK. I think that CaptainVindaloo will be doing some major editing as well. Since you've done such great work adding images to other articles I was hoping you might have the time and inclination to help with this one (in fact, I had the gall to request two images on the article's Talkpage). If you can't get to this, it's no big deal. I'm sure we can muddle through somehow, but your assistance would certainly be appreciated :) --Doc Tropics 17:05, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, thanks for your note about Forbes State Forest, Pennsylvania. Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I have been travelling. I did a little searching for a photo for this article, including the use of my two favorite photo sources. The first of these is yotophoto, which searches for free images (interestingly it was created by someone to search for free images here and at commons, though now it searches other places as well). The other is to do a Google image search with "whatever"+.gov The premise is that US govt works are in the public domain. This works especially well with topics related to the US govt, including anything NASA or the USGS would ever have put a hand into. Alas, so far I have come up dry. You might try putting a request on relevant articles, such as Talk:Pennsylvania to see if any local Wikipedians may have a photo. Good luck, Johntex\talk 23:55, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks a lot for your attention about the recent changes at Celal Bayar, an article I had created but have not been unfortunately watching. I agree about the difficulty in getting the coordinates to work. I took the coordinates I initially posted from the independent Google Earth program (I think they may be off themselves), but when they wouldn't work I just used the standard street directions and posted the coordinates. I hope there is a USGS quad because it would look very neat. Thanks again. --Bobak 15:59, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. I am not sure how familiar you are with the tradition at Florida State, but it NEVER called the "tomahawk chop" as that has been blasted as being culturaly insensitive. Atlanta Braves fans use the term "tomahawk chop", but FSU has made it a point to distance itself from such terminology. That is not nearly good enough. You are a blocked user using a sockpuppet accont to evade a block. As such, it is within policy to block you indefinitely. Speaking here for myself only, I am personally willing to give you another chance on three conditions: (1) you apologize for the vandalism you have done (2) you agree to serve out serve out the remainder of your one month block (5 days from whenever you agree) (3) you promise whatever the outcome of the discussion you will not return to vandalism. I checked, and those coordinates are fine. Most of central Oklahoma is at 35N 97W. From the view I got at Topozone, the arrow for the coordinates in the article (35.208522, -97.445944) points to Evans Hall, which is the administration building on the North Oval where the president's and provost's offices are. The return address for the university is 1000 Asp Avenue, a building called Buchanan Hall which houses Admissions & Records and the Bursar's Office; it's about 75 yards east of Evans Hall and roughly 100 yards north of the northwest corner of the stadium. (Can you tell where I went to school yet?) According to Google Maps, Buchanan Hall is at 35.208522, -97.459944 also, but as you take it out to more significant digits the coordinates obviously are slightly different. It's a good target for an unscrupulous vandal, though, say from these people for instance. They don't like us much - can't imagine why. ;-) Baseball,Baby! ballsstrikes

Hey Johntex, it appears that I'm a little bit late to the game, but let me add my thanks for the barnstar! This is my first, so I'm truly appreciative. Cheers, Lbbzman 11:51, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the barnstar.[edit]

Hi, Johntex. Thanks for the barnstar, and no problem reverting the vandalism. You seemed to be getting quite a lot of it! AnnH 00:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your prot on Brad with just "potential magnate for vandalism" seems excessive. Please unprot. immediately. -- 67.119.194.1 15:51, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I disagree. There was a recent AfD and the decision was to redirect the article, as has been done. It is too soon to revisit that decision, unless you want to provide some valid reasoning why the matter should be reopened. Also, please sign your comments here with --~~~~. Thanks, Johntex\talk 15:54, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you look a little more closely, I think you will conclude that I did sign my previous message with --~~~~. The far more important matter is this protecting that you did on the BP entry. We seem to have a disagreement about this prot you did, nay, a dispute. How best should we proceed in resolving this dispute? I think that your immediately conceeding the point and immediately undoing the prot is still an attractive option. Sir: what say you? -- 67.119.194.1 16:33, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand the need for it to be unprotected. It was determined in an AfD that the article should redirect to the Wikimedia article and it does exactly that. What are your plans for this article?--NMajdantalk 16:46, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I'm clearly not paying enough attention. Of course you signed your post. As for the redirect, I repeat my request for you to provide some justification for why the protection should be undone. Johntex\talk 16:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because I want to add some true, relevant, important and verifiable information to Bradford Patrick's Wikipedia biography and thus forever demonstrate his notability. Please unprot pronto. -- 67.119.194.1 18:33, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I believe the proper forum would be to post to Wikipedia:Deletion review. I am neutral on this question. If you post there and there is consensus to overturn the recent AfD, then I (or any admin) will unprotect. Thanks, Johntex\talk 18:40, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No can do. That means I have to fight for that low-detail poor excuse of an article that was rightly AfD'ed. Please remove your prot. It seems that all you have to offer is obstructionism — the antithesis of collaboration. When a high-detail version of the article is ready, then the voters (or whatever they are) can decide in an informed manner. -- 67.119.194.1 23:25, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I am not going to unilaterally support your recreation of an article that was merged by consensus at AfD. If you are worried about them basing their opinion on the old article, you could create the article in your userpage, then link to that when you go before deletion review. Or, you could put your draft at Talk:Brad Patrick, which is not protected. Johntex\talk 23:31, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mack Brown's page[edit]

Hey, I edited out the Bowl Alliance reference on Brown's page. The last season of the Bowl Alliance was the year before Mack Brown took over at Texas, so referencing an inability to lead the Longhorns to such a game was misleading.

I created a Wiki account after making the change. --Airy Mesa 20:52, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Airy Mesa[reply]

Longhorns football references[edit]

Thanks so much for adding the requested references in the Longhorns football section of the Longhorns athletics page! --ElKevbo 17:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome. I agree with you that it improves the article. I have a couple more here that I am planning to add. Is there any fact in particular that you would like to see referenced before I remove the tag? Thanks, Johntex\talk 18:01, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome to remove the tag. I'm confident that the article is now in good hands. --ElKevbo 18:46, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! We have a nice WikiProject for UT, and there is another one for the state of Texas, and a third one for the state of Oklahoma, so there are quite a lot of active Wikipedians who help out with this section. I'll remove the tag. Best, Johntex\talk 18:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hook 'em hand[edit]

I made up a 100x100 copy of Image:Hookem hand.gif. Do you forsee any sizing problems if I switch it out? — Scm83x hook 'em 22:05, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded it. Let me know what you think! — Scm83x hook 'em 22:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know it was there! I might take a look over there. — Scm83x hook 'em 22:21, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Hook 'em image, I left a message with User:Gustavb regarding the possibility of vectorizing the icon so that it won't be distorted when it's used at all the various sizes. He vectorized the pirate image that was a featured picture a few days ago. I was really hoping he could help us with this (or point us to someone/thing that could). I downloaded the program he used, Inkscape, and I'm going to play around with it to see if I can do it myself. Otherwise, just trying to keep you in the loop on that. — Scm83x hook 'em 08:43, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My first attempt with Inkscape is at right. I'm still having some issues with making it scale properly down to the sizes we need. Play around with sizing it though. Scaling it up to 500px is my favorite! If only 15 and 25px looked so good... — Scm83x hook 'em 12:43, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
User:Gustavb made good on his promise to help me out with the image. Below are several rescaled examples of the SAME IMAGE!! God, I love SVGs. I already put it in the Longhorn userbox, and it seems to look very good. I wanted to ask you about it before I went and AWBed all the rest of them sometime this weekend. Ahh! So cool. I'm going to have to give him a barnstar when we start replacing them! — Scm83x hook 'em 03:38, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

USS Houston periscope photo[edit]

Where did you get the photo? I am a submarine officer who is trying to get the submarine force to use a wiki. If there is someone submarine out there who believes in wikis, I want to know them. --Huckfinne 00:18, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you like it! I got that picture and a lot of other great pictures from The Valiant Shield home page. That was the only one through a periscope though. The U.S. govt is a great source for photos to illustrate our articles because, by law, works of the U.S. govt (including employees and military people while on duty) are in the public domain. That is one reason our military articles usually have good pictures.
You might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history and Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships to see if you can find some more like-minded people. Good luck, Johntex\talk 00:30, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, John. I think the references are vastly better now (though number 7 might still need some work) because of your hard work, and I like your additions to the article. However, I noticed that the paragraph at the beginning of "Accuracy of the test disputed" is a copyvio from the cited reference. I don't need to tell you to make sure that no other copyvios snuck in. Incidentally, now that you've found the 4,500 number, I don't think you need "Thousands have reportedly taken the test." —JerryFriedman 00:20, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Email Address[edit]

Hello Johntex - may I have your email addy? As per my third request for change (coming soon) on the H. McCoy page it will require me to upload the reference documentation and as you can see on the C. Whitman discussion page, I am clueless as to how to do that (even with instructions : ) I would rather email the info to be uploaded. I know that any admin can do this (just as was done previoiusly), but since you are the only one who responded (and kindly at that) to my first email and I have been working more with you, I feel more comfortable giving you the info. I will also provide you with more articles/sources in hopes that you may want to add some info to clarify certain issues that I will post on the discussion page at a later date. Thank You. Orphaned fair use image (Image:SI cover Feb 1999 Kathy Ireland.jpg)[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:SI cover Feb 1999 Kathy Ireland.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Abu Badali 18:34, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kathy Ireland[edit]

Hello Abu. Thanks for your message. You were right about that image as it was not being discussed in the text. I have corrected the problem by including a description of the importance of her Sports Illustrated work to her career. Johntex\talk 19:02, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Johntex. I still don't feel completly confident on the fair use rationale you provided. Do you believe we really need that image to complete the information that the text conveys, that is, the information that Ms. Ireland have become famous after posing for a Sports Illustrated cover? For instance, imdb gives this same information without the use of the magazine cover image, and I don't think imdb readers would feel confused about the matter. Fair use images is for texts that talk about the image (like Lenna or Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima), and not for texts that mention the subject of the image. --Abu Badali 20:22, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Abu, thanks for your question. I don't think pictures are really needed on any articles at all. However, I think that one is as useful to that article as most pictures here. Her modelling for Sports Illustrated was certainly very important to her career. I see no reason we should not include a picture of her famous 25th anniversary Sports Illustrated cover in a discussion of that career. As I understand the law, the image is legal to use because it is small in size and small as an overall portion of the work. Since it is useful and legal, I don't see why we'd want to take it out. If we look at it another way, we could create an article specifically about that issue and how that issue was important to Kathy Ireland's career. Surely no one would object to the use of the image in such an article. However, there would certainly be calls to merge that new article into Kathy Ireland. The information is no less relevant here with the information contained in one article. Johntex\talk 20:29, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, Johntex. I agree that "her modelling for Sports Illustrated was certainly very important to her career.", I do not object the presence of this information in the article. Although, I do see a reason why "we should not include a picture of her famous 25th anniversary Sports Illustrated cover in a discussion of that career". The reason is that, according to Wikipedia's fair use policies (that supersedes the permissiveness of fair uses laws), magazine covers should only be used when disscussing the "the publication of the issue of the magazine in question". I'm not sure if just mentioning an magazine issue makes grounds for an image inclusion, as the image itself do not adds crucial information to the article.
An article about the very specifc issue would probably be deleted due to lack of notability. I see the magazine cover itself being irrelevant to the information that "Ms Ireland has became famous after appearing on the 25th cover of Sports Illustrated". The photo adorns the information, but it's not information by itself. --Abu Badali 20:48, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, some inclusionists would argue that Wikipedia does not have a specific policy that something has to be "notable". They would argue that if the topic is sufficiently important to be "verifiable" by reputable sources then it is necesarily fit for inclusion in Wikipedia.
Some "mergists" would argue that the information belongs in Wikipedia, but that it should be merged into Kathy Ireland or Sports Illustrated. "Merge" seems to me to be the most common outcome of AfD's these days. That is why I think it makes sense to look at this as a hypothetical case where the articles have been merged. The logic path is: (1) the image is clearly fair use in an article about the issue of the magazine (2) the issue of the magazine relates to Kathy Ireland and content about that issue could be merged to her article (3) Regardless of how we title the article ("Kathy Ireland" or "SI 25th anniversary swimsuit issue" or "Depictions of swimsuits on the cover of sports magazines", the title does not change the fact that the picture is going alongside description/analysis of the issue in question.
I think this is on very firm ground not only in law but in Wikipedia policy. For example, WP:FU states "However, if that magazine issue itself is notable enough to be a topic within the article, then fair use may apply." (emphasis added).
I think that the 25th anniversary issue was notable enough to her career to include in the text about Ireland. Following WP:FU, that means that fair use could apply to the magazine cover within the article on Ireland.
Perhpas you would be more comfortable if the discussion on the magazine cover takes up more space within the Ireland article? Johntex\talk 22:01, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If there's one thing that makes me feee uncomfortable it's seeing articles being changed to justify some unfree image use on it :( . --Abu Badali 20:56, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Johntex, glad to hear from you. I think you're right, perhaps my tag was not completely appropriate to the section, and I posted a reply at the Talk:Red River Shootout page. Hopefully, we can work together to make a more complete Red River Shootout article (maybe even get it to FA status someday! Hey, we can all dream, right...)
I'd love to join some of the Texas based WikiProjects, but for the moment I'm focused on being an active member in Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels - When I have the time, I'll definitely help out, although I plan to expand the Red River Shootout article as soon as I get a chance. - Runch 22:47, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: your message. Sure, I certainly don't mind bringing the issue to a larger forum. I'll organize the information I have regarding both meanings and will post it there once a discussion is started.
I appreciate your open mind on the issue. I knew that a Wikipedia policy did not exist, and that was the point I was trying to make. It appeared to be a de facto policy nonetheless, so I felt it was necessary to bring up the issue. I do think that a consensus can be reached that both sides can agree on.
Thanks! I look forward to the discussion. --Ntmg05 20:18, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message, I added some more pictures to some random UT pages, Blanton Museum, Jester, and added another Gallery Pic to the DKR article. I noticed we didn't have a Torchlight Parade article and I have a few good pictures from 2004's. Just got your message, unfortunately I only went to a few games in 2004 and I don't have any good pictures from the players on the field. Yah I double checked and that game was from 2003.

Vince Young[edit]

  • Sorry about that....didnt realize that he had updated the video link. Originally it was a youtube player imbedded, and now its from Myspace. Feel free to revert it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Corpx (talkcontribs) 16:29, 2006 July 25
Thank you for your explanation. Whether or not the video is still there is not really relevant. I am not linking to yourtube. I am linking to an on-line reference that mentions they won the award. The fact that reference also mentions yourtube is not relevant. I am not using them as a source about yourtube, I am using them as a source about the award. The video is not relevant, I only care about the text that says they won the award.
As to why reference that fact and not others, we should be striving to reference every single fact. The fact that we are not there yet does not mean we should delete references when we do have them.
I am restoring the reference.
Thanks, Johntex\talk 00:32, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
does a fan blog really qualify as a reference? Corpx 01:02, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it depends on what they are saying. If they were saying something like "Vince Young sleeps with underaged girls" or "Matt Leinart has three heads", I'd be looking for a more mainstream source. For something as innocuous as this, I think its fine. You're welcome to replace it with a different source if you want. Johntex\talk 01:23, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
