You may want to know that I've created a redirect so that people who don't know how to type the ó can get to your page. Xato redirects to Xató now. PS: you got the right stub tag and everything, nice work. MichaelBillington 00:40, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Catalonia[edit]

Hola Gilles! He vist les teves edicions recents a l l'article de Catalonia. Com a parlant nadiu d'anglès, no crec que sigui correcte traduir "llengua pròpia" com a "own language". No té el mateix sentit en anglès, "own language" es refereix a la llengua d'un individu (p.ex. I speak my own language), però no pas com a llengua d'un país (Germany's own language). --the Dúnadan 16:42, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--the Dúnadan 17:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to Catalonia[edit]

I'm sorry for all the time you spent trying to find a translation for llengua pròpia, but the way that you are going about imposing your choice is not really wise. I have blocked you for one hour so that you can have the chance to cool down and contribute in a normal manner. Physchim62 (talk) 17:19, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Physchim62 but I don't understand a block for using the official translation in the Estatut, that it is not "my way" to translate it. If the problem were the capitals in the title of the edition it was in capitals because i used copy&paste of this document: http://www.parlament-cat.net/porteso/estatut/estatut_angles_100506.pdf , not to say it shouting (this is not a chat). And if you block all users that lose time editing the article Catalonia and changing the way to say something ...it could be a problem. But well you,as an admin, are free to do what you want, It is like a referee in a soccer match :) From my point of view blocking with that reasons is not a wise way to change the attitude of a editor too.--GillesV 17:49, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Psychism62: It wasn't his choice. That is how it was "officially" translated by the Generalitat (or mistranslated, if you wish) [1]. If you understand Catalan, in my comment above I was trying to explain that it was a rather unfortunate translation, and that other users would object, and that he shouldn't be surprised if his edits were reverted. That is, I was assuming he is not a native speaker of English and would not understand the nuance or connotation of the word 'own' in English in relation to the world pròpia in Catalan. I guess you can't assume anything bad (i.e. "imposing", "not contributing in a normal manner"), until you have had the chance to talk to him before to try to sort things out. Talking, better than blocking. --the Dúnadan 17:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Catalonia[edit]

I think there is something wrong about this article. Why does the section "Language" give so much importance to Catalonian, while mentioning Spanish as if it were a secondary language, putting it at the same level as Aranese? Shouldn´t they receive, at least, a simillar treatment? Especially considering that Spanish is the official language of Spain.

I'm not the editor of the language section but in the following phrase: regarded as the native language of Catalonia, is one of the three official languages as established in the Catalan Statute of Autonomy.[6] The others are Spanish, which is the official language throughout Spain, and Aranese (spoken in the Val d'Aran valley). After reading that do you think that spanish is at the same level of Aranese?

And I can give my opinion but if you want changes in the article you should use the article discussion page: en:Talk:Catalonia --GillesV 00:38, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial matters for the Request for arbitration[edit]

I have created a page where we can all expose our controversial matters in each of the articles filled in the request for arbitration. You are invited to contribute in it in order to explain our POVs to the comittee in a clear way. --Maurice27 13:04, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

An Arbitration case in which you commented has been opened: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Catalonia. It is not possible for me to do anything beyond what you did with your portscan (except block the IP, which I did). In order to see if a user used this IP, you would need a CheckUser to preform a check. These can be requested at WP:RFCU, but the checkusers won't make any checks without evidence. For more information see the CheckUser policy. Prodego talk 03:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IEEE technical societies[edit]

If you are a member of one or more of the IEEE technical societies, you may wish to identify yourself as such on Wikipedia. I’ve created Wikipedian categories for each of the 38 IEEE technical societies. The new Template:User IEEE member creates a userbox identifying the society and your membership grade and includes your user page in the relevant Wikipedian category. Catalan culture challenge[edit]

I've seen on your userpage that you speak Catalan: From March 16 to April 15 we will be organising the Catalan Culture Challenge, a Wikipedia editing contest in which victory will go to those who start and improve the greatest number of articles about 50 key figures of Catalan culture. You can take part by creating or expanding articles on these people in your native language (or any other one you speak). We look forward to seeing you! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
