Thanks for requesting protection for Design the Skyline, I didn't even know the vandalism on that article (which was just starting) could be eligible to have the page protected. But anyway, I'm here to tell you this: I'm not sure if you're familiar with the band, but they're the case of a high amount of criticism in the same way Rebecca Black was so the article may need to be indefinitely protected once that wears off. Thanks for keeping it watchlisted. Now to get down to business: although their music video may have been absolutely dreadful (which brought all this worldwide attention to the band), I heard their new album and it's actually pretty good, but alas, many still like to stick to hating something for some reason no matter what because that's just how people think. Just like Rebecca Black, she released a single everyone hated and then she releases a pretty alright song and she still gets criticism. Perhaps, I waited another 20 minutes before prodding it to see if he was actively working on the page, but as he was not I decided a PROD would be appropriate. It says right on the template that they can remove it for any reason, so I figured if they were still wanting to do something with it they would. I removed the hatting as it seems you corrected one copyvio and will WP:AGF as far as the source of other parts of the article. I have not had time recently to pay attention to this article. How do you look for copyvios? I could see Googling for random strings and then filtering out all the hits that are copies of the Wikipedia article but I suspect there's a more efficient method. --Marc Kupper|talk 22:19, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Did you read the BRD page?

The page says it is a guideline and not a policy. My edits about Carrier's writings most definitely are neutral. Content on his own website, which is what I used as a source, shows beyond a reasonable doubt he likes to promote anti-religion propaganda. He's not a reliable resource. Denial of changes to male genital mutilation/circumcision page

Thanks for your comments of the 4th Sept regarding the above page. I must confess to being extremely surprised by them however. From a quick glance at the female genital mutilation/circumcision page you will note that not only is the header of the page listed as "female genital mutilation" but also that the page refers repeatedly to it as such throughout. A study of the male page on the same subject, however, reveals the exact opposite. Not only does the header of the page not even refer to the subject as also being known by many "male genital mutilation", the use of this term would appear to be prohibited throughout the whole article. This would appear to be an extremely prejudicial, biased and sexist double-standard. There is a overwhelming amount of evidence as to the often extremely harmful nature of male genital mutilation/circumcision; in fact many medical practitioners have openly stated that they see little difference between male and female genital mutilation. To refuse to allow any edits that include this term on the grounds that that it constitutes personal analysis and POV pushing would appear to be non-sensical in the extreme. Similarly, the statement in the first paragraph of the page that "Circumcision reduces the risk of HIV infection in heterosexual populations" would appear to be breathtakingly misleading as there is a welter of medical evidence available that utterly refutes this assertion. As such the refusal to allow well referenced edits that challenge this assertion would, with respect, appear to be a simple matter of censorship.

I would be most obliged to receive your comments as to whether you will now review this position.

I understand your position and can see how that would seem like a double standard. However, Wikipedia uses the most common name for article titles (WP:COMMONNAME). For example, the article on Bill Clinton is not titled by his legal name William Jefferson Clinton because he is not referred to as such by a vast majority of references. The same case applies here, as the vast majority of scholarly sources refer to the act of "female circumcision" as FGM, and so the title reflects that. The article's name was changed within the last few months after extensive discussion (here if you are interested). Now, on circumcision the converse applies. Because the vast majority of sources refer to it as circumcision and not genital mutilation, that is the title we use. This subject has come up dozens and dozens of times over the years on the talk page of the article and the reasoning is explained in more depth at Talk:Circumcision/Archive_67#Can_we_maybe_drop_the_double_standard_already.3F. Dear Falcon-

Apparently you have deleted the page I created for my fraternity, Theta Tau Epsilon? All material on the page is owned by my fraternity. The writing is ours and the graphics belong to our fraternity as well -- so there should be no copyright issue. I made a mistake in saying the copy came from Bemidji State College -- which it does -- but we gave it to them for their website. The copyright belongs to us. Please consider putting the page back up again?

I didn't delete the page outright, but redirected it to the article on the college. I wasn't aware of the copyright issue until now, but you should look into WP:COPYRIGHT for information on how to donate copyrighted materials as copyrighted text isn't allowed due to the way the Creative Commons licensing works. By all means add your fraternity as a section on the article for the college, where it would be more appropriate. The text of your article still exists here. Why are you willing to discriminate against my fraternity by saying it only deserves a sub-section under another topic? I understand where you are coming from, let me explain it more understandably. I redirected it because from what the article stated your fraternity is not one with multiple chapters and a national base, but one chapter at one college. Thus, it would be more appropriate to have it as a section on the college it is a part of, until such a time that it has significant enough content to warrant a separate article. This is not denigrating your fraternity but is simply complying with our guidelines for the notability of organizations, and having it as a section on the college's article would get more exposure anyways. Secondly, even if you own the copyright for the material in question, there is a process you have to go through for legal reasons that gives Wikipedia permission to use it. The steps for doing so are described at Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials#Granting_us_permission_to_copy_material_already_online. Thirdly, editing articles about which you are closely affiliated is generally discouraged. Finally, I am not an administrator, so you may revert my redirect if you so desire, but I can't promise that another editor won't tag it for deletion instead of a redirect. And you'll need to remove every fraternity and sorority without a national affiliation. Right? I think you are just plain wrong on this. No, Skull & Bones would not be deleted, as it meets the criteria of notability, which are outlined in the link in my above reply. Specifically, "A company, corporation, organization, school, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject. A single independent source is almost never sufficient for demonstrating the notability of an organization." -- your fraternity doesn't meet that qualification, and thus the redirect. I recommend reading a few of the links on the welcome message on User talk:Lanewsguy if you need help with editing. I wouldn't readd the copyrighted text without following the steps I linked above however, as it will lead to the article being deleted outright. I'm confused; I don't see why being consistent -- putting AD in front of a date -- is a bad idea. The Manual of Style says it can be either in front or behind the date. In the article is was both ways, I made it consistent.

That said, putting "AD" after the date makes no sense; neither does "Xth century AD."

I certainly don't think so. Note the sort key at the end of the categories, so that someone going to Category:Ancient Greek philosophers would see the ones that were atheists sorted thus for easier access. It's described at WP:SORTKEY. Deleting parent categories willy-nilly because you disagree with them and don't understand how categories work on Wikipedia isn't the way to go about things. It's not tagged for deletion at the moment, so you're fine for now. Someone tagged it for speedy deletion but I contested it, and then the same editor prodded it which is a less strict form of deletion that anyone can contest. It might be listed at WP:AFD which is the last method it could be deleted by, but would be subject to debate by other editors to see whether or not it passed the general notability criteria or the notability criteria for bands. Regarding the album covers, general image use policies are here. You just need to add the appropriate non-free image use license to the file pages. I absolutely agree with removing vinylrecordsearch, as it is a blatantly commercial site, and this site has been removed many times over. (Is there a way to blacklist a url?). However, 78rpmcommunity is a non-commercial link which aids in further understanding of the article topic. I didn't add this in the first place, and I don't want to add it back in without hearing why you think this is an inappropriate link. For reference, I declined the speedy deletion, as turning it into a non-puff piece wasn't too much work. The article still really needs sources; you could conceivably take it to AfD, though I think the fact that the group has won 13 national dance competitions probably makes them automatically notable. I'm just letting you know however, regarding [[:{{{1}}}]], that tagging articles for speedy deletion moments after creation as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3) and articles created through the Article Wizard, is too fast. It's best to wait at least 10 - 15 minutes for more content to be added, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), pure vandalism (G3), and copyright violations (G12) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks.

In order for it not to be deleted and be included as a true article, it must meet notability, neutrality, and other guidelines. Unfortunately, I don't have lots of time to devote to this, so I would say to whoever the "powers that be," to delete the page in its entirety and go ahead and delete my account. This is truly dissappointing. I understand copyrights, etc. But I sent my word document over to the permissions email address and posted the OCRS in progress thingy at the bottom of the discussions page. I was very frustrated when I just started out editing too, so I completely understand. Just take things slowly, take a bit of time to read the articles I linked, ask questions if you have any, and you'll get the hang of it. Home_Automation External Link

My link to CocoonTech.com was removed (again), I am guessing (based on your latest info) because it also offers a forum feature. However, the site is much more than a forum (the link doesn't even point to the forum directly), and contains news, many reviews, tutorials, guides and lists which have #1 spots in most search results, so I am not sure how this could be not considered for inclusion (it's similar to the HiddenWires link, except it offers more relevant content, without selling anything). I hate to be a pain here (I honestly just want to get to the bottom of this, no hard feelings), but are you telling me that links such as http://www.cocoontech.com/portal/lists/home-automation-software (most comprehensive list of home automation software out there) and http://www.cocoontech.com/portal/articles/guides/home-automation/144-zigbee-101 are not good enough? The site is filled with content like this. I guess I can start a discussing about this on the Home_Automation talk page, but it's pretty full already, and it doesn't look like anyone responds to the EL requests. WP:OTHERTHINGSEXIST. I understand your frustration, but the problem is that it remains a community forum/open wiki. If you can get other editors to agree with the link's inclusion on the talk page, it can be added. Otherwise, just submit it to DMOZ and it will be linked on the page indirectly. speedy deletion of Asdfmovie

I responded to the proposal for speedy deletion of asdfmovie. I gave some reasons why the web content is significant including it has had over twenty two million views. Part of the notice said I should feel confident to continue editing the page, but of course I worry that my edits will be sucked into the vacuum of webspace and obliterated. It needs reliable, third-party sources indicating how it is notable. Just having X number of views doesn't make it inherently notable as Wikipedia defines it. In order for it to be considered notable does there need to be that there are reliable third-party pages discussing the topic or that there are reliable third party pages discussing how notable the topic is? If the former is the case then it is notable according to the Wikipedia system because there is an article about it on TV Tropes, an article about it on Know Your Meme, and an article about it on Wikitubia. There is also a page on facebook with over 20,000 likes therefore showing popularity, but I guess that isn't the same thing as notable is. makeswell (talk) 02:54, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
