193.130.175.134 has removed the name of SK Pottekad from the list. Do you know if he is Ezhava ? I thought he was, but not sure. Tintin 10:19, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was only yesterday that I noted this question posted here, but could not immediately put it in context to early discussion. I regret the oversight. Yes Pottekad is. However, my view is that these community-based lists are not fit for an encyclopedia like Wiki. The information is not imparting anything valuable to a global user group of the encyclopedia. Who really cares if ONV or MT are Nairs, or Pottekad or OV Vijayan were Ezhavas, they have all grown intellectually and culturally above all these low barriers and their heads tower high above a different cloud altogether. These lists, if at all, should be at the respective community's web sites. Also these lists become quite subjective, as a petty starlet who showed her face in a TV serial will get listed, but names of many unsung and forgotten heros and notables that worked for the uplift of the community itself get edited out, because of lack of historical knowledge among Wiki users. Without some criteria, for listing, these lists can also become endless; for if you simply put the four largest communities in Kerala together, then that's all about having a who's who for all Malayalees! Also most occassional and anonymous Wiki users are only interested in adding names to these lists, but not building properly researched articles on the back of those names. Nowadays I have taken some of these articles off my watchlist, as I have noted that they are only points of contention, rather than anything worthwhile spending time on. • Over the next few weeks, based on time availability, I will do my best to create a fair and factual NPOV article. As I am only an occasional Wiki contributor, you guys who are more regular Wiki contributors should help with timely reversing of vandalism. Cheers! Aaroamal 14:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to have more of a factual knowledge on the subject. I try and check up on the article as frequently as I can and I will definitely keep an eye out for reverts and vandalisms. --Vivin Paliath (വിവി൯ പാലിയത്) 20:14, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Narayana_Guru[edit]

Dear aroamal, Its sure the Statue of Sree narayana guru in thalassery is not of marble. I assume that marble statue has been made after the samadhi of guru Daya anjali 04:33, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

This is is the details i found in sivagiri site. link[1]

It is worth remembering that Gurudev's first statue was put up at Thalassery when he was alive. The architect of that bronze statue was the Italian artist Thavarly. The statue was installed at the initiative of Gurudev's grahastha disciples such as Moorkothu Kumaran

  • It all falls in place and makes sense now. So the error is that it is marble (as mentioned in Gurupadom souvenir by Kerala Kaumudi). In fact it surprised me that the picture itself was showing a bronze statue while is said marble. Thanks for the clarification.
  • On other recent edits in the article, my suggestion is to keep the article strictly biographical. Sections such as the Sivagiri Pilgrimage and SNDP are topics that warrant separate articles. I think there is already one on SNDP. Of course this biographical article itself need a lot of other clean up, which I will do as time permits. For instance, that section of "Tolerance of atheism etc." has lot of garbage that needs to the sheared and some moved to the article on Sahodaran Ayyapan where it is directly relevant Aaroamal 03:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
i think mesage to SNDP yogam from guru is to clarify his stand who is an ezhava. I think its shud b there as its not abt SNDP yogam but its objective as per gurus dharma.
Regarding Sivagiri Pilgrimage , guru is setting objectives for the Pilgrimage .

Hi aroaml, I will refine the contents that i have added in the article which i have taken from one of the biographies of guru which is the source of many other books and websites i think. I have taken so much pain to add this content. i will definetly come back in couple of days and do it. thanks u regards Daya anjali 10:29, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Ezhava siva, i have 2 biographies with me

1)By Prof Surendran of SN college, punaloor published 1983 which clearly says he has said ezhava siva. (Harisee books) 2) Philosophy of Narayana Guru by Swami Muni Narayana Prasad . It talks about this and explains what he meant by that. In simple sense it is that: siva doesnt belong to Brahmins , the lord or god doest belong to any cast , but to all human beings

I am going to buy "The Word of the Guru (The Life and Teachings of Guru Narayana)" by Nataraja Guru . I have asked my father to buy the book by kaumudi. i think he has ordered it. I will confirm abt this after reading these books

Daya anjali 05:50, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Dayanjali,

This "Ezhava Siva" is a rhetoric that later biographers (after the 1960s) started putting across as words said by Narayana Guru. I have read at least 10 biographies of the Guru and none of authors before the said date claimed it was the Guru's words. Think for yourself, if you are a person who really understands the Guru's philosophy, would the Guru ever say those words when many of his disciples in 1888 were themselves non-Ezhavas. If you have a copy of the SNDP Golden Jubilee Souvenir (edited by R. Shankar) published in 1953, see the article written by Justice A.S.P. Ayyar, I.C.S.,which clearly says as follows "To a Brahmin Matadhipati who objected that Thiyas could not act as priests to Siva, one of his disciples gave the famous reply - It is not the Brahmin Siva we are worshipping, but the Thiya Siva! -'. Kumaran Asan, Mookoth Kumaran and Nataraja Guru have not said that the Guru ever said these words. Most biographers in the recent years are authors who have built biographies from other biographies, plus added some salt and rhetoric to make their books look more entertaining to the reader. I am aware that most people who talk about this quote in recent years are not doing sufficient research in the first place to confirm whether Narayana Guru ever said these words, they are just trying to explain or justify it without hindsight. You should also remember that some of the biographies of the Guru are actually novels (fiction) based on the Guru's life. So the dialouges are sourced from the imagination of the novelist. In fact one of the English biographers made this error in late 1980s and I had pointed it out to him, but it was too late as the book and already come out. His son is also now misquoting the Guru using the father's erroneous words. There will be no end to this non-sense unless people with a research mind and rational thinking expose this faux pas and nail it for good, as it has already gotten deep into the rumour monger's domain. In this article u have more details abt Gurudevan's first statue at Thalassery

http://www.narayanaguru.org/Main.asp?xx=Articles.html Daya anjali 06:27, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

  • In fact all details of the statue at Thalassery is in Komathukattil Bhaskaran's book. It was just the picture of the statue in Gurupadom that created the confusion. I have fixed that section a few weeks back.Aaroamal 04:36, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. i have got some info abt aruvippuram prathishta... please read here... When a Nambudiri, kerala Brahmin, expressed his anger and concern about such an act of sacrilege, the Guru simply remarked. “I did not install any ‘Nambudiri shiva’. God is neither a priest, nor a peasant, He is in all…….. He is all…..”

thanks Daya Anjali (talk / contribs) 08:22, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KS Manilal Article[edit]

Great job with the Manilal article. Can you add more details and links regarding section "Book-release functions conducted by the publishers". Currently this looks like ad-hominem attack without provided links. Hence, this section does not satisfy the neutral point of view rules (WP:NPOV) and verifiability rules (WP:V) in wikipedia. Please take a look at the rules and edit appropriately —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.27.116.98 (talk) 03:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Bongomatic 14:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Excerpt_Travancore_Geography_Text.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Excerpt_Travancore_Geography_Text.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 05:49, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:07, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:SNDP Edu Fund.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [2], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:24, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article G. Kamalamma has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP - this needs some sources. They will be out there, I am sure, but transliteration etc seems to be an issue.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
