Orphaned fair use image (Image:Englesea.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Englesea.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Counties of England[edit]

Hi Yozzer66,

I noticed an old disscussion on the Ashton-in-Makerfield talk page. It related specifically to the age old dispute of counties.

Needless to say you formulated a correct arguement, though I thought I should bring your attention to the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (places) (see the British counties section). This is Wikipedia's official policy (based on all the real, legal, academic and consensual evidence) that we do indeed use the modern county system when describing where a place is.

  • Thanks Jhamez84. The dispute surrounding counties seems to be particularly keen within the traditional boundaries of Lancashire. This seems, in part, to be due to the pressure group 'The Friends of Real Lancashire' (http://www.forl.co.uk/003/intro.html). Whilst I too feel some nostalgia for the pre-1974 boundaries, the fact of the matter is that there needed to be greater administrative effectiveness in and around the great urban conurbations. The creation of new authorities within the Merseyside and Greater Manchester areas was necessary. That said, even if it had have been a disastrous decision, the reform happened and the law has not been reversed since. Therefore, we are absolutely correct in upholding Wikipedia policy in this arena. Yozzer66 14:57, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Archive[edit]

{{helpme}} I recently created a new article 'Rev. Joseph Cooke'. Unfortunately, when I came to 'save page' the latter third of the article did not show up in the finished article. This third included part of the article, the references and the categories. It is still clearly shown on the editing page but doesn't show in the finished article. How do I put this right? You haven't closed the <ref> tags properly; the correct syntax to close the tag is </ref>, not <ref>. The failure to close the tag means the entire latter third of the page is trapped in the tag and doesn't show up. --ais523 10:02, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Hello, thanks for the contact. I believe I've actioned this correctly now.

OS grid references are avaliable from the OS's getamap service. Input this into the appropriate field in the infobox, then, if you click that it'll give you the exact co-ordinates of that place.
