James Fazy (May 12, 1794November 6, 1878) was a Swiss statesman and journalist.

Born in Geneva, Fazy was educated in France. established themselves in Paris and participated as a journalist active in the fight of the liberals opposition against the restoration moving, signed 26 July 1830 the protest of the French journalists against the Juliordonnanzen, fought the candidacy of the duke against Orleans and turned, after he because of press passing suffered several pursuits, 1833 into its father city back, where he had already created 1826 the journal de Genève.

Here it drew up the revue de Genève, organized the radical movement from 22 November 1841 and, when the same did not lead to the goal, which rebellion of 5. until 8 October 1846, stepped to the point of the provisional and after the again-constituted government and defended as an envoy of Geneva at the hearing 1847/48 with success the introduction of the American parliamentary system of two Houses to the new Swiss Federal Constitution.

From 1846 on, only with interruption of the electoral period from 1853 to 1855, the head that Geneva government, he contributed powerfully to convert by sharpening the fortress works, execution of great public buildings etc. the altcalvinische Geneva into a modern kosmopolitische city; but its by any means immaculate private life as well as his diktatorisches Walten did not excite missvergnügen, so that it was not selected 1861 and 1863 no more into the Council of State.

After in August 1864 its renewed candidacy had led to bloody confusions and a temporary Swiss federal occupation of Geneva, its influence was broken.
