  • Comment only Hook makes no sense - is something missing? Edwardx (talk) 20:19, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Is that clearer? I've done a ce for English, which was needed. Johnbod (talk) 02:04, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Is this a joke? KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:13, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
No, they are the funny ones. Johnbod (talk) 04:58, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Really? Has any such hook like this ever passed nomination and got on the page? KAVEBEAR (talk) 06:32, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
I believe we once had a hook, "... that you have just lost The Game?". Can't find it now, so maybe it didn't run, but if so I don't think it was beause of any problem with the hook itself. ALT1 is fine. EEng 07:11, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
  • It's been over a month since anyone has posted here. I have struck the ALT1 hook in part because hooks without "that" (unless for April Fool's Day) invariably run into trouble either before or after promotion to prep, and because, frankly, the article doesn't support such a hook. The possibly relevant passage is "wrapped in a turban characteristic of the Coptic Church hierarchs", which isn't particularly interesting; the next part, "which could suggest that Petros was a monophysite" is so indefinite that it isn't usable. There isn't much in the article that lends itself to an interesting hook at first glance, but a reasonable hook could perhaps be put together from the fact that the image was nearly 1000 years old when it had to be moved due to flooding caused by the Aswan Dam to make Lake Nasser/Nubia, and seems to have ended up in Poland despite its Sudanese/Nubian origins. There'd need to be a bit more in the article to support a new hook along these lines, possibly including new sourcing. Pinging Halibutt, Johnbod, KAVEBEAR, and EEng. (Note to EEng: that hook for The Game was for April Fool's Day 2015, and did have an initial "that", unlike this one.) BlueMoonset (talk) 02:20, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
While some people seem to think hooks must begin with that, I don't believe there's any such rule (and anyway IAR). I'll be happy to help fashion the flood/move/Poland hook if the material is added to the article. EEng 02:45, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
@BlueMoonset:, I didn't add info on background as the translations of separate articles on the excavations, the Faras Cathedral and the restoration of the wall paintings are in the works (we need help with that). But thanks for the ping, I added a couple of paragraphs. Is it better now? @EEng: thanks, that would be helpful. //Halibutt 09:24, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
  • In fact this article has never had a review, just comments. However since BlueMoonset has taken it upon himself to strike both proposed hooks, there is currently no hook to review. Johnbod (talk) 14:23, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT2 "...that the turban worn by bishop Petros may indicate his theological position?" Johnbod (talk) 14:33, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

The article was nominated 5 days after it was created. It is long enough and well sourced. As a fellow Slav with a limited access to the sources, I can say it is unlikely that any part could be considered close paraphrasing. The copyright status of the image is fine, of course. I agree with BlueMoonset about the hook, though; an article as interesting as this one deserves a more interesting hook. I like both Johnbod's suggestions and would like to expand BlueMoonset's idea:

There could also be an April Fool's Day hook. I approve the article and ALT2; someone else will have to approve ALT3 or propose a new hook. Surtsicna (talk) 18:53, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Seconding Surtsicna's review although I will have to AGF on the non-English sources, and approving ALT3 and ALT3A. I believe ALT3A by Cwmhiraeth is much more interesting though. I don't believe any of these should April Fool's Day hook and instead one these or ALT2 should be used in the promotion. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 06:15, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
