hello,

article states "It contains both Mount Hope and the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue cemeteries." i rather doubt (but on no absolute authority) that "Westchester Hills Cemetery" "contains" the other 2 cemeteries.

Rather, they are separate entities with an internal road that allows vehicular passage among them. google maps at http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=yonkers&ie=UTF8&ll=40.990718,-73.85808&spn=0.016294,0.041542&z=15&om=1, unfortunately, fails to represent the multiple cemeteries - it only displays mt. hope (and i think it incorrectly includes acreage that is part of westchester hills cememtery and another cemetery (name escapes me at moment) so it is not a particulary reliable source.

I am unclear about "Stephen Wise Free Synagogue." From visiting grounds, I've not been able to determine if it is a complete separate cemetery or and "association" within one of the various contiguous cemeteries. boundries are not clearly delineated. there may well be as many as 4-5 cemeteries within the borders outlined on google maps.

i realize i've not answered/clarified much, but believe article merits further work. perhaps contact with mt. hope cemetery (no wikipedia article) via their website atwww.mounthopecemetery.com would elucidate.

I visited WHC in July 2007. Both Mount Hope and the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue cemeteries are there. They have two separate offices, but are on the same property. There was no internal fence between the two, but I did drive my car from one office to the other, while looking for some graves. Hope this helps. K72ndst 17:36, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No connection between Westchester Hills Cemetery and Mount Hope Cemetery[edit]

The last sentence of the initial paragraph stated: "It contains both Mount Hope and the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue cemeteries." When I read this statement, I broke down the interments into two divisions, one for Westchester Hills Cemetry, and the other for Mount Hope Cemetery. I then added Herman Tarnower as a notable in Mount Hope Cemetery.

I just paid a visit to Mount Hope Cemetery and found out a very interesting fact. Westchester Hills Cemetery and Mount Hope Cemetery are completely independent of each other and are in NO WAY related. Each cemetery has its own main office. The two cemeteries are next door neighbors, but neighbors are not necessarily related.

In view of this, I have to make a substantial edit to Westchester Hills Cemetery. All references to Mount Hope Cemetery will be deleted. Mount Hope Cemetery needs its own article. I'm glad that I noticed this error and am able to correct it.

This is a good example of how unverified information can and does lead to false statements in Wikipedia articles. I'm glad that I am able to correct mistakes when my original research trumps false data.
