As a WMTH alumni, I would be the first to say that I would love to have the title of "First HS station in the US", or first educational station in the world" or all the other superlatives I've seen. Alas though, IT IS NOT TRUE. And the LAST thing I want to see us do is mis-represent ourselves.
We were NOT the first...in the US, or even in IL. WEPS, licensed to District U-46 in Elgin, came on the air in 1950.
If you are talking student-run, MAYBE. But in terms of oldest continuously operating HS station, we aren't. Sorry.
