CountryLink stops[edit]

According to the current timetable, the XPT does not stop at Uranquinty; it's not even listed as a request stop. I'm removing the table and links to the other towns. JROBBO 10:40, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi JROBBO - I noted your revert of my entry regarding Wagga Wagga - Uranquinty - The Rock train stops. Let me say first off that it is absolutely no skin of my nose if the article on Wagga Wagga and Uranquinty is changed- but I note your interest in accuracy and given that I live here and have travelled the train line from Wagga Wagga to Melbourne on many many occasions I know that the train does in fact stop at Uranquinty. (If you have travelled this train you will know that it stops at some stops literally for no more than 30 seconds and has departing/enbarking passengers at one specific door on the train ready to get off).

You are correct that Uranquinty is not listed as a Request Stop but to be sure of my facts this morning I rang Countrylink again (just in case the ability for a stop has ceased) and asked if I could buy a ticket Sydney to Uranquinty. The telephone salesperson asked her supervisor and called me back to say that with a special request (which a supervisor will assess) the train will stop at Uranquinty. As I said I have travelled that way by train (on probably 25-50 occassions in the past 6 or so years) and it has stopped at Uranquinty many times. Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry I didn't believe you earlier, but I do now. I remember now that there are other non-listed stops on other lines like Newbridge on the Main West. My only worry is that someone will revert the change without a source, as is supposed to happen on Wikipedia if the fact is unjustified. Can you find a published source that says UQ is still open and used for Countrylink trains on request? This site has it listed as "In use" but doesn't say that passenger trains stop there. By all means, though, put it back to how you had it before (and don't forget to change The Rock, New South Wales as well.) JROBBO 07:40, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have annotated the Uranquinty stop to reflect published guides. If something can be found in print or on the Countrylink website that confirms that Countrylink stops are available there, then we can amend it. In any case, the claim should be given some source here. Hearsay will not do! See also The Rock.

The box wasn't designed for lengthy writing like that - we should leave it off the box altogether or put it in. I think that for the moment we should remove it from the CountryLink stops box, but leave the reference to the stop being open on the Uranquinty page. The station is definitely still open (it is not listed as disused or closed), and like Newbridge on the Main Western Line XPTs can stop there if you ask; however it is not in the published timetable. There may be a listing in the Working Timetable, but I'll have to find the ARTC one to have a look. JRG 00:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, JRG. I'm sure we can work this one out. In accordance with your suggestion, I'll remove reference to Uranquinty from the box, until we have some other published confirmation of its availability as an XPT stop. Good enough?

I was about to remove the box myself as Countrylink now no longer use the station but is still used by other services (Buses as a bus stop, Fright trains and Special passenger train services [not often and not done by Countrylink]). The station was listed as a "requested stop" on the time table in 2007 but has been removed off the 2008 time table. Don't believe the Countrylink website as a few things on it are incorrect. JRG, I have spoken to Countrylink about this, both in person at their Melbourne ticket office (Southern Cross station) and by telephone enquiry. Both times they confirm the published information in their current timetable: it is not possible to arrange to be picked up or set down at Uranquinty. Have another look at the images of the "station". It is quite clearly of different status for Countrylink than The Rock station, at which one can be picked up or set down (as their current timetable shows). Nothing is published anywhere to support your view that Uranquinty station is accessible even with "special permission". Note that, even if you could get such special permission, we'd need something to certify this fact. Please leave the information as it stands for The Rock and Uranquinty, unless you can give a current, accessible, published source that warrants a change, and that stands up against the other published information we have.

You obviously didn't try hard enough then, because other people seem to have been able to get the XPT to stop at Uranquinty - you are simply not right. The platform is in no worse a condition than a station like Bellata on the Moree Explorer where trains stop even without requests - that's not a reason. The information we have is that the station is listed "in use" - and as VS has shown you can get the train to stop there. Your silly Countrylink site does not show that you can't stop there- it merely lists the normal stopping places. JRG (talk) 12:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please assume good faith. Timetable listed here and here doesn't show "Uranquinty" and if Uranquinty was a requested stop it would be listed with an a, b, c, d or u next to it but it's not even listed. CountryLink would list it as a stop but it's not. Yes the station is open but not used by CountryLink. Bidgee (talk) 12:23, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
