How does one signal the server that you are finished with your soup if the proper etiquette is to always place your spoon on the plate even if only between sips?72.237.223.50 (talk) 01:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Between sips, one would hold the spoon in hand. Only when finished would the spoon be placed on the plate. That's the ideal, of course. In reality one may need to put down the spoon to pick up the salt, get bread, etc., and the server must be attentive to the timing and body language of the diner to determine the diner's intent. 67.168.15.132 (talk) 10:52, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
