A fact from Samuel Kamakau appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 5 December 2008, and was viewed approximately 383 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the Hawaii State Legislature declared October 29, 2005, "Samuel Kamakau Day," in recognition of the Hawaiian scholar who wrote over 200 articles about Hawaiian history?
Working on articles in the Kaʻawaloa area on Kealakekua Bay I see many references to a "Chief Kamakau" just before him, and then I noticed the Kahikolu Church Cemetery record has a headstone of "Samuel M. Kamakau" with vital dates March 5, 1855 to October 10, 1932 as well as Sarah K. Kamakau (1881-1920) and Benjamin L. Kamakau (1855-1932). Wonder if they are realted.
