Stadtteil[edit]

I'm cleaning up and editing the translation. I'm going to follow the example of Boroughs of Berlin and use "borough" to translate Stadtteil. Normally I use "neighborhood" for that, but the Stadtteile of Salzgitter are more than just neighborhoods; they used to be separate towns. --Angr/tɔk mi 08:19, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think there's a mistake in the article because "municipality" is used for two different meanings: 1) the smallest order of a settlement, a Stadtteil, which can be a village or comprise thousands and ten thousands of inhabitans. Translating this is very difficult, Angr has suggested "borough", I've seen "quarter" somewhere. I can't say what is the best word. 2) A Gemeinde, which is the next higher order and includes several Ortsteile (at least two), which are the same as Stadtteile in a city. Gemeinden and cities are on the same administrative level, both having a district (Landkreis) above (an exeption are the Independent Cities such as Salzgitter, larger cities of the extension of a district). I know that sounds complicated (it is if you go to vote on elections)...
Personnally, I recommend to use "municipality" only for Gemeinde (if it is appriote for this) and find another translation for Stadtteile. Wikitom2 18:42, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Concentration camps[edit]

According to http://www.gedenkstaette-salzgitter.de/english/index.htm there were actually three concentrations camps in what is now Salzgitter: Drütte, Watenstedt/Leinde, and Salzgitter-Bad (see the map at http://www.gedenkstaette-salzgitter.de/english/gesch_2.htm). —Angr 09:56, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please add the reference material for the three camps? I'd appreciate it. If you are too busy, I understand. But you did delete my stuff twice. -- Hughstew, 18 April 2007.
