I've just removed the following text from the article: He was generally considered to have been a devout and pious man; a chronicle of the period, the Gesta Regis Stephani, speaks of him as a "man of gentle disposition". Potter's translation of the GS mentions the earl three times (on pages 119, 129, and 235). It doesn't describe him favourably, in fact saying " effeminate men, whose endowment lay rather in wanton delights than in resolution of mind". It could be the case that effeminate has been translated by someone else as gentle, but the quote does not support the text I just removed. Richard Nevell (talk) 15:54, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
