Compat Issues RE MIDI[edit]

I don't quite see how MIDI is a compat issue -- as the article does not say that there were or are any issues with this transition. 122.111.190.250 (talk) 04:34, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is that many or even most MIDI players do or did not understand the RIFF-wrapped MIDI, but only the original MIDI file format. --L.Willms (talk) 06:28, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Compressed MiDi Format[edit]

I have encountered compressed MODule music, in format Like:

MDZ for Zip

MDR for Rar

MD7 for 7zip

not just for MOD format, but for others with different extension., like S3M, XM, IT and many others.

And it was handled out of the box by some players,

I would like to ask if there is such Practice for Compressed MiDi Files:

Like Rared, GZipped, XZed 7zipped MiDi file

Does some players have more standard procedure for Compressed File Playback?

It is not original research,.

as it is certainly written in code and in specification and documentaries on software development trackers - SVNs like github/gitlub.

But I suppose there would be more people who could wish to know,

as such file formats could be very easily compressed by modern hardware on the fly,

More other it should be included in overall and broad Midi and MODule playback Category.

I know there is compression in SoundFont3 format.

Copypaste needs rewriting[edit]

I might get round to doing this myself, just making a note here, feel free to fix it if you notice this.

I was surprised by the phrasing Tags which are part of the Exif 2.2 specification (Tag ID's beginning with "I") have an underlined tag name in the HTML version of this documentation. What documentation? This is an encylopedia article, not documentation, and nothing here is underlined. These confusing words have been in the article for, oh, about 14 years. :/

Yes, the source of the copy says

The table below lists all EXIF tags. Also listed are TIFF, DNG, HDP and other tags which are not part of the EXIF specification, but may co-exist with EXIF tags in some images. Tags which are part of the EXIF 2.32 specification have an underlined Tag Name in the HTML version of this documentation.

and "this documntation" refers to the Web page in which that statement appears; "ImageWidth" is underlined, because it comes from the EXIF spec, but "Thresholding" is not underlined, presumably because it's from some other spec.
That table doesn't exist in Resource Interchange File Format, and the short table below the statement in that page doesn't have any underlined tags, so the statement should probably just be removed. (Perhaps that table included tags from EXIF at one point, but I doubt it does now.) Guy Harris (talk) 20:14, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't include tags from EXIF at the time the offending copypaste was inserted. I'm just going to remove that statement - and the one about AVI files generated by Sony Vegas video editing software. If somebody wants to add tags inserted by that software to the table, and note that they are inserted by that software, they can put that part back.
