English or British Regency?[edit]

Politically and constitutionally it was the British Regency as it was after the Acts of Union 1707, and the Act of Union 1800 and applied to the whole of the United Kingdom but I didn't want to just leap in and change it as the article is full of references to England and, of course, English Country Dance which leads onto the question: Is there something particularly English about Regency dance? Thanks, Bruce Kiore (talk) 08:42, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are numerous errors here that should likely be fixed or clarified. John Hertz can be given credit for the rise in interest in Regency Dance in Science Fiction Convention circuits, but his dances are not themselves Regency recreations (instead they're a combination of modern dances, walked English Country dances), and occasionally walked Baroque dances. (http://walternelson.com/dr/nelson-system). The "Regency Dance" promogulated by his teaching or the Friends of the English Regency is an entirely different thing than the dances danced during the English Regency (and recreated by CVD, Susan de Guardiola, and Richard Powers). The revival should certainly mention those latter (and more historial) efforts rather than only the earlier, Cecil-sharp inspired ones. Joshua Kronengold (talk) 16:49, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You may well be right; but have you got some solider references than Nelson or the Vintage Dancers org for this stuff, Joshua? It can be argued that neither is a NPOV source, since as I understand it they can be deemed rivals/competitors to what fen think of as Regency Dance history. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:15, 8 April 2014 (UTC) (full disclosure: I get mail from John all the time; but Hulk no dance)[reply]
