There has been some disagreement as to whether the PDEng is a legally-recognized degree in the Netherlands. While there are references showing the degree's accreditation in the article itself, there are no references indicating that it is not legal.

If you have reliable references to show that the PDEng is not a legal degree and title in the Netherlands, please provide them here. UserTester (talk) 12:46, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The name "Professional Doctorate in Engineering" is utmost opportunism; they sell it or do suggesting it like it is a doctoral degree, but it is neither a recognized degree neither a legal doctorate. It is only a recognized education bearing this name and at the most maybe a legally recognized 'professional qualification', but in no way a doctorate! In the Dutch law ("Wet op het hoger onderwijs en wetenschappelijk onderzoek", Artikels 7.22, 16.12, en 16.14 + Regeling doctorstitel godgeleerdheid of wijsbegeerte) is specificly layed down how and when someone is allowed to be awarded a doctoral degree and this education does not in the least qualify for that. Everytime when someone tries to add a text which explicitly explain that this isn't a doctorate, someone else removes this clarification. Demophon (talk) 20:10, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Demophon, I have reviewed your cited articles in the Dutch law for higher education, and they all refer only to promotion and PhD's, in short, academic doctorates. The PDEng is not a PhD, nor does it pretend to be. Please see this section of the Wikipedia article on the Doctorate#Professional_doctorates degree. This shows that there is a such thing as a professional doctorate for those who do not concentrate on academic research. A medical doctor (MD), for example, is a professional doctorate, and the bearer of an MD carries the title of Doctor and a doctorate degree. It's just not a PhD, but an MD.

Please do not assume that the PDEng is not legally recognized only because you cannot find it by Googling the Dutch law websites. The programs at both of the Netherlands' best technical universities exist and have been issuing degrees for over 10 years now.

Als het aan de taal ligt, kan ik je een uitleg graag in het Nederlands geven, maar stop aub met het pesten van dit artikel. UserTester (talk) 09:19 11 July, 2009 (UTC)

Confusing article and title[edit]

This article is titled PDEng but then refers to a specific Dutch qualification that is no longer even called a PDEng.

In other jurisdictions such as Ireland, a PDEng is a 4-yr program resulting in a level-10 qualification fully equivalent to a PhD. 78.152.249.248 (talk) 09:29, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
