Rewrite please?[edit]

Help! I am taking college-level introductory Plant Science and this reads like gobbledygook! Can anyone rewrite so a basic science reader can understand? The purpose of wikipedia is to increase access to knowledge for a wider variety of people.

Thank you. Can you also explain how pits and plasmodesmata are related? Pits are referred to on the plasmodesmata page, but plasmodesmata development is not referred to here.
