I undid the recent edit because the administrative distinction made in Hungary between ‘village’ and ‘town’ does not correspond with the somewhat vague distinction we make in English between the two terms.

Nagykovácsi feels like a very small town, rather than a ‘village’ in the sense we use the word in English. While the official population according to the annual digest produced by the local council in December 2007 is 6,128, the real population has certainly reached more than 10,000 as this very wealthy little town has many properties owned as second residences and consequently many residents living here on a semi-permanent basis. This very point about the population of Nagykovácsi was made on local radio in Hungary earlier this year. To force this little town into the category ‘village’ simply because of the Hungarian language translation of the word ‘village’ is an odd thing to do, sounds strange in English and gives an entirely false impression.

Please try saying in English, ‘I live in a village which has a population of about 10,000 and an area of more than 5 square miles’.

Phew, that’s some village and the sentence has a very odd ring to English ears, indeed. As a comparison, please look up the Wikipedia entry for Budleigh Salterton. I quote, “Budleigh Salterton is a small town on the south coast of Devon, England…”

Please note Budleigh Salterton has a population of 4,805.

I notice the editor who made the recent changes has scattered the term ‘Budapest Metropolitan Area’ all over many entries in Wikipedia. While a case could be made for including an English translation of any proper name alongside the proper name in any entry, the wholesale deletion of a proper name and direct substitution by its English equivalent is somewhat specious and in my view a practice which should not be followed.

I've removed some of the recent edit because it seemed over-elaborate and moved the 'social grouping' details to the "Items of Local Interest" section.

I don't want to get into an edit war over this but I'm not sure this very modest little town deserves havinng its already long and detailed entry extended. There are plenty of sizeable and more important towns (even cities) in Hungary with less attention paid to them in Wikipedia. But perhaps Nagykovácsi could be seen as a trail-blazer setting the standard for others to copy. LOL Artdesigns2006 02:25, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
