Morro bay kangaroo rats live in the sandy to rocky soils. Though some still like the grasslands. Their burrows enter the ground at an angle. Their primary food is seeds, creosote bush,puslane,octillo, and grama grass. They have 2 to 3 litters a year. In each litter they have 1-7. Mostly they have 2. They are born with no hair, eyes and ears closed, and toothless.

Conservation status[edit]

Changed its conservation status as this subspecies is not listed in the IUCN Red List (was listed as Critically Endangered here on Wikipedia with no source, the source IUCN was wrong). However, it is listed as endangered in th US Endangered Species Act: http://ecos.fws.gov/speciesProfile/profile/speciesProfile.action?spcode=A03X.
