Americas

Removed the America/United States of./The Americas bit. Between English speakers, America refers ONLY refers to the USA. A Guatemalan is not an American. A Guatemalan would be from ONE OF the AmericaS (note the THE and S). The Americas are not a single landmass, but two. Then what about Canada? It is not part of the USA, yet it is definitely a part of (North) America. Same for Mexico (if it were a separate landmass there wouldn't be a pressing need to build a wall!). That comment above seems unsubstantiated to me. In France the same misnomer exists, "l'Amérique" et "les Américains" are often used to designate the USA and their inhabitants (which makes me cringe), while the american continent is generally considered as a single landmass and also called "l'Amérique" (as in "Christophe Colomb a découvert l'Amérique" / "Christopher Colombus discovered America" – which is apparently also a misconception but that's another story). The word “étasunien” (formed after "les États-Unis") is sometimes used, it's quite ugly but at least it's specific. The fact is that there is no specific name for the inhabitants of the United States of (North) America.--Abolibibelot (talk) 07:22, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
