This article states that the tower was constructed by a member of the public called Mr Gay. I thought that sounded odd (mainly the idea of something this size being built by a member of the public rather than the name) so I looked a little deeper- this information was part of a section translated and copied from the French Wikipedia, and this particular snippet was added by an IP who has made no other contributions to the French wiki. My French is dreadful so I'm finding it difficult to find anything to back this up or otherwise. MorganaFiolett (talk) 15:49, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Removed (better late than never). I couldn't find any source to back it up that wasn't a direct copy of the Wikipedia article. The claim was removed from the French version more than a year ago; the edit summary, roughly translated, says that Mr Gay never existed and a "Restaurant Gay" situated at the foot of the tower had no connection other than it made use of the available location. This link (reliability unknown) claims that the tower was built on land belonging to the Gay family, but until it can be verified I'm not going to put it back in. Cosmo0 (talk) 00:34, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
