"Storyline input"?[edit]

I think this phrase might be a bit too strong to describe Platt's role in the creation of Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel. Of course, I don't know the details of the story's development, but the Tom MacRae interview in the latest DWM suggests that Platt himself may have had nothing to do with it — it might have been as simple as Davies and MacRae discussing Spare Parts, listening to it, using it as a springboard for a new story and then negotiating appropriate credit and compensation with Platt's agent. Platt may have been consulted at some point, but the way MacRae describes it in the DWM interview doesn't indicate any personal involvement by Platt in the transformation of the audio drama set on Mondas, with the Hartley family, into a television drama set on a parallel Earth with the Tyler family. (Although it's certainly possible to conceive of Mondas as a "parallel Earth", from a certain point of view — but I digress.)

Why isn't he writing for the new series?[edit]

From the Spare Parts article:

In his introduction to Big Finish: The Inside Story, Russell T. Davies called this story (along with The Holy Terror) "some of the finest drama ever written for any genre, in any medium, anywhere"

Praise doesn't come much stronger than that, so I'm mystified as to why Platt hasn't (thus far) written anything for the new Doctor Who series. Does anyone know if Davies has asked him to contribute - and if not, why not?

I suppose it could be argued that Platt hasn't written much for television (compared to Paul Cornell for example), but then the same could be said of Rob Shearman. 217.155.20.163 20:30, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason this page doesn't have a link to the Marc Platt disambiguation page ( here, as there are at least 3 other well-known "Marc Platt"s? I got to this one by accident, looking for the producer, but even then, I thought he also had writing credits, so it seemed reasonable.
