Lower Yoder Today[edit]

Lower Yoder Township is a combination of residential neighborhoods and commercial development. Approximately half of the township's area lies in a valley, in much of the same way that the neighboring city of johnstown does. The other half sits atop a mountain ridge. The upper half of the township contains the commercial areas consisting of a shopping plaza, banks, and numerous eating establishments. For this reason, Lower Yoder Township has two fire departments: Lower Yoder Fire Department on the bottom half, and Westwood Fire Department on the upper half. Although these fire departments are technically seperate, both stations are activated, and respond to, any alarm within the township. Police protection is provided by the West Hills Regional Police Department, a force that also protects other neighboring boroughs. EMS coverage is provided by West End Ambulance, though its station is located in the City of Johnstown. Lower Yoder Township is home to two sandlot fields, used primarily for little league baseball. The lower entry to stackhouse park is also in the township and provides many walking trails through the scenic wilderness areas.
