"By organizations"[edit]

The sentence-list of the number of positive-testing players by organization is long and difficult to read. I'm also not sure this information is so vitally important to the topic that it needs setting out in the lede section. Might it be better if it were included in tabular form somewhere later on? 86.164.137.75 (talk) 12:05, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just stumbled on this article and immediately found it difficult to read. I'm going to make the edit. The table is sortable and already displays by organization. There's no need to name 20 different teams in the Lead. Zodiiak (talk) 05:24, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Sanchez[edit]

He was the first one to test positive and get suspended. He needs to be added.

SteroidList.com[edit]

How reliable is this website? Corvus cornix 22:34, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Corvus - the Wikipedia article doesn't cite steroidlist.com as a source of information, in which case reliability would be an issue - it cites it as a place that has links to newspaper articles. Those articles almost certainly are reliable.
In the best of worlds, an editor would go to steroids.com, follow a link for each listed player, and then add that link to this Wikipedia article, so that it was unnecessary to rely on steriodlist.com to continue to exist, and to save the reader a step or two in finding the ultimate source. You're certainly welcome to update the Wikipedia article accordingly; my guess is that others have not doine this because they see it as a lot of work for relatively little added value, but certainly opinions can vary as to that.
So another question is whether the steriodlist.com website can be trusted. My guess is that no one has exhaustively tested whether each and every link cited by the site is valid. You're certainly welcome to do so and draw your own conclusion. But, given that a major league baseball player mistakenly listed at the site probably would have his lawyer send a warning letter immediately, my guess is that the site probably doesn't list anyone without having a valid source (newspaper article) in hand. Again, that's only a guess.
Finally, I note that the criteria for external links, at WP:EL, is less stringent than the criteria at WP:RS. I strongly recommend that you and other editors not remove the external links to this website, even if you do add direct links to newspaper articles, because it functions as a source for editors who want to keep the Wikipedia article current. -- John Broughton (☎☎) 21:39, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I didn't know anything about the site, so I was concerned that we had people on here with no sources except for a few newspaper links. Corvus cornix 18:33, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the links should be copied here. I'd also like to see the former major leaguers listed here, i.e. the people on this page. I'll put it on my personal to-do list but can't guarantee when I'll get to it. —Wknight94 (talk) 12:49, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neifi Perez should be removed; the link plainly says that he was suspended each time for stimulants not steroids. Also the Rocker link makes no mention of him, so unless someone's got a better source that oughtta go too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.132.248.2 (talk) 00:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neifi Perez will not be removed, because he used a stimulant that contained a drug banned by baseball. As for Rocker, yes he was mentioned in the investigations. Apparently the last person to have edited this page merged 2 separate sections. The section that listed players under investigation was merged with suspended players. Players under investigation have been slowly caught so that is why they are listed in a separate section. Please do not merge sections that has its purpose clearly defined.MistaRick
Well, this article contains performance-enhancing drug use. Was Neifi's drug use not performance-enhancing related? Kingturtle 21:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whats the difference between sections 3 and 4[edit]

"Major League players suspended" and "Players with MLB experience suspended". If I had more time I might be able to figure it out, but this should be spelled out at the top of each section for clarity. Thanks. DavidRF (talk) 18:44, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major League players suspended are players on Major League rosters at the time of their suspension. Players with MLB experience suspended are players on Minor League rosters, but with MLB experience, at the time of their suspension. I don't know if the two charts need to be separate, but that's what the titles mean. Kingturtle (talk) 01:24, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. Maybe a few words of explanation in the article would make that more clear. Hult041956 (talk) 01:28, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too many lists that don't fit this article's title[edit]

This article's title says it lists suspended players. Yet it also includes a list of "Players accused by José Canseco" and of "Baseball players linked to steroid, THG and HGH use". Neither is the same as being suspended. We also now have a List of Major League Baseball players named in the Mitchell Report, which I'll bet has a lot of the "players linked" in it. I suggest the "Canseco" list gets moved into the article about his book. And the "linked" list moved somewhere (don't know where) as well. Hult041956 (talk) 22:04, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. This article is for players who have been suspended. Kingturtle (talk) 00:49, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good job. Definitely a stronger article now, by being more to the key point. Hult041956 (talk) 01:18, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That's actually how it used to look. At some point it got cluttered up. Kingturtle (talk) 01:21, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When?[edit]

When did MLB announce the steroid policy? Whoever knows/has a source, will you kindly add it to the first sentence. As it is, the introduction reads like a news release instead of the lede of an encyclopedia article. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 22:38, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I re-added that info. Kingturtle (talk) 02:07, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Minor leaguers[edit]

Has this article traditionally included minor leaguers (who have not yet appeared in MLB)? Or is there a separate list article for minor leaguers? I created a new table for César Puello (minors), Fautino de los Santos (FA) and Jordan Norberto (FA), but I'm unsure now. I see that Marlon Byrd was listed as a FA in the main table, so maybe Santos and Norberto should be moved up there. Woodshed (talk) 18:25, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Players with only minor league experience[edit]

It seems like the section for players with only minor league experience at the time of their suspension for some reason only includes active players. However, there's nothing anywhere in the text indicating that that's the case or why that would be that case. I understand wanting to list only active players because of concerns that the list could get too long otherwise but, if that's the case, there should probably be something somewhere to indicate that. --Dennis C.
