Dear Chausee Strasse #19 apartment mate:

It's your ex-apartment mate writing to you. To refresh your memory we shared an apartment in 1991. I'm writing to apologize for my actions during that time.

When I knew you I was stuck in a cycle of dishonesty with myself. I therefore lied to you too. The truth was that I knew that I was in danger and yet I rushed into the living situation with you despite my feelings. I also never confronted you on other issues that I had surrounding your identity, which caused me severe distress in the longrun. I feel that I may have misled you about what I wanted out of our friendship and that was wrong.

I had become so desparate to be a good artist that I gave up my safety and denied my feelings. I feel that I tried to use you to get ahead and adapt to a lifestyle that was completely disconnected from my value system.

I was so stuck that I was incapable of exploring other avenues for myself in Berlin. I felt that I had to be accepted no matter what. And so for that behavior I lied to myself about my needs and my self esteem disappeared and it just became worse and worse for me and probably for those around me.

You seem very interesting as a person and yet that was not a reason to allow myself to use you the way I did. I'm sorry if I misled you and/or harmed you.
