Dad is 100% Italian-American

Jon's father is Italian-American and Jon is the one who is half, not his father.

Proposition:

Editing of genre's. Currently, it displays: Glam metal, Hard Rock etc. That's Bon Jovi, not Jon Bon Jovi. His solo albums, are not glam metal, Blaze of Glory is almost country rock, with Destination Anywhere being almost pop-rock. Cleanup needed perhaps?

Italian-American

His ethnic ancestry is listed as Irish/Italian. However, I have read elsewhere that he has Portuguese ancestry also. Any details on that?

In Scandal

I was reading this page about the band Scandal [[1]] stating that Jon Bon Jovi was a member for a short time. I didn't find any information on this page about it. Is it true?

...What the hell II

""The tour was a sellout and was a successful launch of his debut album called: Bon Jovi. This album included the classic hit, The summer of 69.""

Summer of 69?? Who does NOT know that's Bryan Adams, and not Bon Jovi?? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.19.147.6 (talk) 12:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC).

THIS IS A JOKE This article is so riddled with factual errors and poor overall grasp on the subject matter it's an embarassment. Attempt to make legitimate and corrections and provide a comprehensive article on Jon Bon Jovi was met with a hand-slap from Wikipedia, a notification claiming the changes were inappropriate and was edited back to what you see here.

So if you're looking for reliable information, seek another source. There's so much wrong with this page, it's laughable.

Re-write Tag

I've added a complete re-write tag as well, as I'm sure you'll agree, it needs it. Eastlygod 12:20, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

What a mess! I've attempted some cleanup today (shown here). Cleanup for WP:NPOV, added fact tags, removed unsourced potentially libelous material per WP:BLP, and attempted reorganization. I haven't read/resourced enough to do any better right now, but will try at a later time. If anyone else is willing to rewrite and source any sooner, I can certainly help with formatting. This gentleman certainly warrants much better than this. Cricket02 21:34, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

MAJOR REWRITE AND PURGE REQUIRED

This article has way too much info about the BAND and not JON. Exxolon 20:47, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Rock Music Assessment

Hi, I'm here to assess the article on behalf of WikiProject Rock music, as the article is unassessed by the project. I've seen the previous comments on this talk page, and welll, yeah, there's some problems. So here, let me list out just a few things that need to be corrected to improve the article:

  • Bon Jovi There's way too much information about the band Bon Jovi, not the man. Try removing most of this content (or merging it with the Bon Jovi article, if it's not there already) and using the main template (put in main|Bon Jovi before its section between {{ }}) to redirect the band part of the article to its article.
  • References For as long as the article is, I would recommend more sources. Of course, if the above issue gets resolved, this problem won't be as serious.
  • Original Research This ties right in to the references. Without references, much of this reads like original research. It may not be, but it certainly appears to be right now.
  • Lack of Content There's just not much here beyond the part about the band itself.

That said, I'm going to give this a Stub class rating. I know that the biography rating is Start-class, but with the Bon Jovi article, this article does not have much noteworthy content by itself. If you have questions or want me to reevaluate the article, say something on my talk page, because that is the only page I check regularly. Redphoenix526 (talk) 19:35, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Oprah's Charity

Sorry just to update on this. I was watching this and he gave 1millon of his own money to Oprahs Charity and it was not from the band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.72.54.34 (talk) 12:36, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

This paragraph doesn't make any sense. It begins by stating that "The Bon Jovi Band" donated this amount and then describes it as the "highest amount by any single celebrity." If it was indeed the entire band, that's not exactly a "single celebrity" ...And the claim isn't even sourced so it can be checked. Varilux 23:31, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Offense

This does not belong into an encyclopedia: "In a September 2007 interview for Glamour Magazine Jon insulted Pete Docherty ("I've never heard a single one of his songs"), David Beckham ("past his prime"), Robbie Williams ("That guy couldn't even fill a bar") and Oasis ("couldn't fill a bar either - and they're full of themselves")."

Besides it is absolutely wrong and taken out of context. Here is the original interview from an English magazine from 2007:

CB (interviewer): Which British rock bands are you into? JBJ: Coldplay are the real deal I reckon... CB: Pete Doherty? JBJ: We are not familiar with anything other than Pete's antics and the fact that he is always in trouble - I've never heard a single one of his songs. CB: Yeees - neither has anyone else. Is Robbie Williams a star in america? JBJ: That guy? He couldn't fill a bar. He couldn't even sell 500 tickets... CB: And what about Oasis? JBJ: They couldn't fill a bar either - and they're full of themselves. [...] CW: You own a football team don't you? Do you think David Beckham is going to be an asset to LA Galaxy? JBJ: I don't know - is he past his prime? The fact is that soccer in America doesn't mean anything to anyone, and it's losing so much money. You can see what's happening a mile away - they're setting David Beckham up with all these movie stars like Tom Cruise and his wife's going to be on tv now, so they're priming the pump. But they have tried to make the sport cool before, and it didn't work. Beckham sure is handsome and talented guy, but that doesn't make him well known over here.

In 2008 an Australian magazine picked up these statements:

Interviewer: "There was a quote from the UK where you slagged off Robbie Williams and Oasis, saying they couldn't fill a club in the US . . .

JBJ: Of course the English took it out of context. They were talking about the success they (Robbie and Oasis) have had in America. I said they couldn't play a club there. I'm a huge Robbie fan, buy all his records, seen him live. But he couldn't play a big venue in America. It's not a slag at him, it's like, ‘‘Look how screwed up the industry is, he can't play a club here but he plays three Knebworths (outdoor stadium) in the UK'".

So I'm going to erase this passage from the entry because it is wrong and doesn't belong into an article! 87.161.32.31 (talk) 12:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

  • You're wrong but you're also right. The way to deal with the situation was not to delete the content as you did (I since restored it) but to add the info as outlined above. I will source and add the content shortly to balance the coverage of this interview. Exxolon (talk) 21:27, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
    • I've added the reaction quote sourced to the australian source. If we can find a proper source for the quoted interview above (online is better, but we can source to the specific paper magazine issue we can cite that) then we can expand the initial section as well with better context. Googling only pulled up a Aerosmith fan forum reproduction of the interview - not reliable enough. Exxolon (talk) 21:40, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Grammar

"...yet he resented the lack of attention that was heaped on Jon..."
Umm, ok, this is bad grammar. If he really resented the lack of attention, it sounds as if he felt Mr. Bon Jovi was not getting enough attention. Is that really what you meant to say? I suspect that the answer is ..... no.

So what you should have written was either:

A B
"...yet he resented the attention that was heaped on Jon..." "...yet he resented the lack of attention shown him..."

And by the way, no I did not have to write "...shown to him..." under example (B) above, in reference to Mr. Sambora; the reflexive preposition is implied in English (though not in a Romance language such as French), so is not required.

Oh and yes, I probably use bad grammar in this post but -- so what. I am not writing the article, you are, this is just a discussion area, so who cares if my grammar is sloppy. You should see the juvenile comments made by editors where I work, real crap; but that's not what gets published.

And finally ..... is this true? Did he say that? If so, can we get a reference? Even if in a 'fan magazine', there should be something to prove this. Thank you and have a nice day.

Needs alot of Clean Up

At the moment it is just a load of random facts in no particular order. I don't know enough about Jon to do it myself though, unfortunatly. How do you mark it for clean up? Eastlygod 01:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree. His wife, for example, is as far as I know Dorothea Hurley and has always been Dorothea Hurley.

It's Dorothea Rose Hurley to be more precise... He's had some girlfriends (Diane Lane or Ladd, can't remember, was one of them)... But only 1 wife; Dorothea Rose Hurley.

At this point, it isn't worth mentioning in the biography. However, the Twitter frenzy got so bad today that Jon Bon Jovi had to send out a photo of himself holding a dated handwritten cardboard sign, like a kidnap victim or a homeless guy. Sad. It's a reminder of how important it is for us to be exceptionally cautious about hopping on the hot rumor train. People care about their favorite celebrities, and turn to us for the facts when hot rumors fly. We should strive to never spread false rumors.Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:26, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

There is no evidence supporting a African American heritage. According to an interview with the Luso Americano Newspaper(A Newark based Newspaper) he is of Irish/Italian on his father's side and Portuguese from his mother. It's typical to have an American citizen with such a diverse background, but it leads to much confusion when it comes to setting up any accurate information. Orphaned references in Jon Bon Jovi

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Jon Bon Jovi's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Jon's Vocal Range

Okay. I only play a little keyboards. but I wanna know Jon's range. In Work For The Working Man he hits a B2 and in Livin On A Prayer he hits an Eb5 in full voice. So is his vocal range B2-Eb5? AttilaBrady (talk) 23:01, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

I don't know but he hit mega-high ranges in his first album, way higher than Livin on a Prayer. 108.81.33.59 (talk) 07:17, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

His vocal range has substantially reduced at some point. For the last few years he's been unable to hit the highest notes in Livin' On A Prayer, and in live performances he just skips them, leaving it to the audience to sing them. Always sounded like he wasn't using proper technique for those notes, and I understand it's been causing vocal cord damage that has now caught up with him. This information ought to go in the article (and probably also in the article for the song); need a reference. 2001:8B0:80D:0:0:0:0:1 (talk) 08:46, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Please I hope Jon Bon Jovi gets this or relay it to him!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE!

Dear Jon Bon Jovi(Bon Jovi),

This isn't a fan letter. It's not hate mail either so please don't stop reading. I don't really know what to say to get your attention. But I'm going to try my best for this person that I love so very much. She needs me but I don't what to do right now. If you have a bigger fan than her, I'd find it hard to accept. She really believes in you. So I will believe in you, too.

Lisa Bunten is 44. She has three children and one grandchild: Tyler, Megan, Justin, and Bailey. On Monday, November 16, she had a massive heart attack in her bathroom. Her boyfriend called the ambulance and administered CPR until they got there. She was without a pulse for some time. She went into cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital and possibly had another heart attack. She was then flown to OSU Medical Center in Columbus, OH., where she remains in a coma. It has been devastating to our family as you might imagine. As it is with every family, I'm sure. I don't mean to sound like we are special in some way. But she is special to each of us. When I say family, I also mean her friends. And when I say "I" and "me," I really mean "we" and "us."

I'm sure you've guessed by now (probably after the first three sentences) what is coming. I'm not going to write fifteen pages explaining why we love her or why you should help her. I'm sure you love your own family just as much as we love ours and you understand where I must be coming from. If you thought there was a chance someone could help your wife when everything seemed to be lost, wouldn't you at least try to get their attention no matter how insurmountable the task might appear?

I can tell you that she has loved you, your music, and your life for almost all of her own life. The 80's wouldn't have been the 80's for her without you, or the 90's and 2000’s for that matter. Hell, her life wouldn't even be the same without you and your music. Of that much I'm completely sure. She borderline stalks you. I'm pretty sure she could write a comprehensive biography. Every boyfriend she's ever had must have at least a little bit of jealousy going on. She has remained a loyal fan for her entire life. So, to the plea...

You might not think there's anything you can do to help. And in all honesty, maybe there's really not. Maybe I'm merely grasping at straws. But I don't know that for sure. And if I didn't ask, I'd never forgive myself for not trying. Going to the hospital for her is probably out of the question. It would be fantastic but my head isn't that far in the clouds. But if there's anything you can do, anything at all, will you do it? She would do it for you. And I certainly don't mean money or that sort of thing. We don't need or want that from anyone. A simple YouTube video we could play for her by her bed with her name in it? Or anything you can come up with that might connect in some meaningful way. Keep in mind, she's in a coma. I know from my end it sounds like it's only 30 seconds of your life and so easy for me to ask. From your end, 30 seconds multiplied by thousands of people asking for your time adds up fast. I understand that. But I'm begging because it seems like that's all we have left. Prayers and begging and waiting. As she would say — and it's literally the truth — we're livin' on a prayer.

Thank you,

Lisa's Friends and Family — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.136.243.183 (talk) 16:11, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Personal life

This section reads like a resume, its not very "personal". Can someone update it to something more relevant to his personal life rather than him trying to buy sports teams? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.199.183.62 (talk) 17:15, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

New England appearances

Is it true that Jon was at a Bruins game in Boston on January 26, 2017? Is there a section for recent appearances? Or would tahat go on a fan site somewhere? 50.252.234.17 (talk) 00:27, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Picture update

The main picture in the article needs to be updated. It was taken almost 10 years ago and his' looks have changed a lot since then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dinan Blueje (talkcontribs) 19:11, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Edit Request - Just a Quick Change for Some Clarity

Hey, I'm just requesting a quick edit to this page, can you edit the line "He also played at a 2009 Manhattan fundraiser for former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton ..." under the "Political Activism" section to: "He also played at a 2009 Manhattan fundraiser for then-Senator Hillary Clinton ..."?

I just feel that the latter information in this original line provides no relevant information in this context, and creates a little confusion in this segment regarding the date by adding "2016" in the middle of the sentence (I had to re-read that last line to make sure I had the date right =/ lol)

I just feel that it would read a lot more smoothly and prevent any confusion.

Thank you =]

semi protected image request, 11 April 2023

can the picture of Jonathan King be removed. it's irrelevant and inaporopriate. Barnare73 (talk) 13:16, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

I think this is a fair request given the criminal record of Jonathan King.[2] I am replacing the image with the photo of the original vinyl of 1984 Bon Jovi album File:Bon Jovi 1984 vinyl.jpg. In case you want to revert, note that a cropped version of the 1987 photo is available as well- File:Jon Bon Jovi 87.jpg. Sabih omar 13:41, 10 August 2023 (UTC) Sabih omar 13:41, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
@Sabih omar thanks for doing that Barnare73 (talk) 14:04, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
and you've pretty much spoken why COI users should not edit articles on their own. Removal for such a reason is called "reputation management" or white washing to artificially affect the image of the subject, which we do our best to prevent. Graywalls (talk) 01:31, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
@Graywalls sorry, I don't get what the issue is with removing the picture of King. he isn't referenced anywhere in the article and, to the best of my knowledge, didn't play any significant part in Bon Jovi's success. nor does his criminal conviction have anything to do with Jon Bon Jovi, so I don't see how removing the image could be classed as 'whitewashing'. Barnare73 (talk) 02:53, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
the editor who initially suggested it's a fair request given the criminal record of person who happens in the photo with Bon Jovi is a editor who came here from an Upwork listing to do public relations editing on behalf of the subject through their talent management which raises concern of white washing. Graywalls (talk) 20:17, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
@Graywalls but they were responding to a request from me and I am in no way connected to Bon Jovi.
I reapeat - there is no reference to King anywhere in the article and he did not play a significant part in Bon Jovi's success. nor is there any suggestion that Bon Jovi is in anyway connected to King's criminal conviction. there are literally thousands of photos of Bon Jovi out there where he is not sitting next to a convicted criminal, so why is it so important for this particular photo to stay? Barnare73 (talk) 01:46, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
The picture depicts the article subject around the relevant era onto which the photo is attached to like other photos. So, the other option would be to remove ALL PHOTOS except the anchor one or leave them as is. Given the reasoning given by subject affiliated paid public relations editor User:Sabih omar, I object to selective removal of just that one picture. I'll leave the mic open for others to comment.
