Grits In East Africa Maize Meal is ground and cooked and is called posho being the thicker version of Ugali which is fairly liquid equivalent. In Southern Africa it is refered to as Maizemeal or Mealeymeal or even Maizemeal Porridge

Wikipedia is not a Dictionary[edit]

Having been linked to this article from the article on Grits, and considering Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary, I believe it to be the best course of action to simply either refrain from etymological or semantic discourse, but instead to focus on the older and shortly mentioned food, and to perhaps include with it a link to the following Wiktionary entry: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/grit#English
