Wagner?[edit]

Did he ever conduct Wagner? I just ask because he happened to be born on the exact centenary of Wagner's birth. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 13:28, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure he did, see this link (Tristan und Isolde discography, Act Two excerpts - Scene 2 - Brangäne's warning), there's one recording made by Jílek and Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987. Brno is rather a provincial city, however, the symphonic and operatic repertoire is (and was) quite broad. I don't think there is a particular association between Jílek and Wagner, Jílek is known mainly for his interpretations of Janáček's works. I love his recordings, he doesn't romanticize his compositions and remains faithful to Janáček's harsh style. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 14:52, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
