2007 Election Results[edit]

I'm going to pick a nit here, but it's said that there were 13 votes cast in the election in 2007. The leading party got 38.46% of the vote; this corresponds to five votes. The second-leading party is said to have gotten 36.54% of the vote...but that doesn't correspond to an achievable value (4 votes would be 30.76% of the vote). I don't know what the results were, but this number is simply impossible...and I can't read German, so my ability to check the primary source is complicated (running anything from the Wayback Machine through Google Translate is a tricky exercise, too).

The numbers in the article do reflect those in the source. I believe this is because voters are voting for multiple candidates and thus while there may have been only 13 voters participating, many more votes than that were cast. For example, if we look at the 2007_Swiss_federal_election#By_constituency summarised results for the first constituency in that list (Aargau), we see that 186,551 voters turned out, but if we sum the votes cast (942,792 for Swiss People's Party, 465,119 for Social Democratic Party, etc.) we get a total of 2,597,321 votes, almost 14 times the number of voters. Perhaps someone with personal knowledge of how Swiss elections are conducted can weigh in. —BillC talk 15:50, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ticino had eight seats up for grabs in 2007, and if voters cast one vote for each seat, Corippo's 13 voters could have cast 104 votes in total. Running the numbers against that total works out nicely: FDP 2 votes (1.92% of 104), CVP 38 (36.54%), SP, SVP & PdA each 8 votes (7.69%) and Lega 40 (38.46%). These percentages exactly match those in the source. —BillC talk 16:09, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
