NOPV[edit]

This is little more than an attack article and needs a complete re-write ninety:one 14:49, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All four of Britain's Children Commissioners, the Article 43 Committee of UNCRC, UNICEF, et al, disagree —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.73.160 (talk) 07:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting[edit]

I've tidied up some headings, but someone needs to do serious work to make good the rather shambolic formatting of this article. --Pfold (talk) 17:22, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

COI edit request[edit]

Hi, I work for the Office of the Children's Commissioner and would like to suggest some changes and additions to the page as some of the content is factually incorrect or inaccurate.

* The organisation is no longer called 11 MILLION. We changed our name to the 'Office of the Children's Commissioner' in May 2010. Here's the link to our last annual report to confirm this.
* There are now closer to 12 million children and young people in England
* The following sentence is inaccurate “Several events led to the creation of the Children’s Commissioner for England. Firstly, in September 2003 the government published Every Child Matters, which proposed whole system changes to the way in which children’s services are planned, commissioned and developed. As well as this, Keeping Children Safe, the government’s response to the Victoria Climbe enquiry chaired by Lord Laming, was also published.”
In truth, over 130 organisations campaigned for the establishment of a Children’s Commissioner for England for many years (Visit the Children's Rights Alliance for England website)
* This section is also factually incorrect as I don’t think it says anything in the legislation that set us up about giving consideration to the Children’s Plan: "In addition, consideration should be given to the five principles of The Children’s Plan: Building Brighter Futures:[6]
* Government does not raise children - parents do - so government needs to do more to support parents and families
* All children obtain the potential to succeed and should go as far as their talents can take them
* Children and young people need to get pleasure from their childhood in addition to becoming prepared for adult life
* Services need to be shaped by and responsive to children, young people and families, not designed around professional boundaries
* It is always better to prevent failure than tackle a crisis later"

What would be the best way of updating this page?

Political appointment?[edit]

Is the post of Children's Commissioner a political appointment, i.e. is it made by the ultimate decision of a politician in power, or is it a publicly advertised post that anybody can apply for and is chosen on merit by a non-political interview panel (similar to a civil service post)? thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.148.158.50 (talk) 12:32, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
