There is NOTHING specific to childhood onset schizophrenia at all. No mention of differences, no studies. Not even speculations. It hardly deserves to be a standalone article. Missing page numbers
Lugg h, book sources require page nos; could you please add them? Also, please note that Wikipedia uses wikilinks to avoid duplicating information unnecessarily. Schizophrenia is a Featured article, and there is no need to rewrite general information here; this article is about pediatric aspects. Suggested Edits to Treatment Section
I have a few suggestions for the Treatment section of this article (and I am new at Wikipedia editing, so bear with me!): First, I would suggest adding a citation for this sentence: "Although modes of treatment in this population is largely understudied, the use of antipsychotic medication is commonly the first line of treatment in addressing symptoms." The citation I would suggest is: McClellan J, Stock S, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Committee on Quality Issues (CQI). Practice parameter for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with schizophrenia. J Am Acad Child Adolesc Psychiatry. 2013 Sep;52(9):976-90. This citation is useful because The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry provides guidelines for assessment and treatment and identifies antipsychotic medication as a main treatment.
Second, at the end of this sentence, "Recent literature has failed to determine if typical or atypical antipsychotics are most effective in reducing symptoms and improving outcomes," I would suggest adding "however, research has shown that atypical antipsychotics may be preferable because they cause less short-term side effects." [1]
Lastly, it could be useful to include a specific example of a side effect of some medications. So after "averse effects" in the last sentence of the Treatment section it could be useful to insert, "such as weight gain." This way the sentence would read, "When weighing treatment options, it is necessary to consider the averse effects, such as weight gain, of various medications used to treat schizophrenia and the potential implications of these effects on development." Areas for Improvement
Information regarding childhood schizophrenia should only be information specific to childhood schizophrenia. Schizophrenia already lists similar symptoms, histories, and diagnosis histories. A possible help to the article could be images to further understanding, or give a face to a name. The section on Auditory Hallucinations only references one source, and should be backed up by one or two more. The paragraph seems lengthy, and a bit out of place for the subject.Sierraannmartinson (talk) 02:27, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
LexieP1997 (talk) 18:48, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Overall I think this paper is very neutral when it comes to information in regard to schizophrenia in childhood. I noticed there were missing citations in the introduction section, signs and symptoms, and DSM-5 sections. I would also maybe look into creating more content and citations in the International Classification of Diseases section. I would also suggest expanding the treatment section.
