Article Started[edit]

I've started the article, but it obviously needs a lot of work. There seems to be plenty of information about Dr. Pierce, but I'm having trouble making it cohesive this evening. I'd love to have assistance, and will try to work on it some more soon. ★ Bigr Tex 05:58, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

-Personality: He was often described as someone with quiet courage, grace, and humility.

-In 1968, he went up against the American Psychiatry Association to fight against the white leadership and their disinterest in black individuals.

-As the founding member of the Black Psychiatrists of America, Pierce was worried about the impact of television on young children of color. With his background in childhood development, he wanted television to be helpful with development. Because of his personal beliefs and the fact that he had a young daughter at the same time, Dr. Pierce assisted as a Senior Advisor to one of the most successful children's show of all time - Sesame Street. Sesame Street was also a platform that could be used to oppose racist messages that were found in many other television shows that were on air. How can you have an article about Pierce and not mention that he's the guy who killed an elephant by dosing it with LSD? The co-author on that paper, Louis Jolyon West, was part of MK Ultra. Pierce is often assumed to be also, but I don't know if that is firmly established.
