Much-needed article[edit]

Thanks Connolly15 this is the best explanation I've seen. One thing I still don't understand is how the amount of monetary damages is set. It seems like people ask for a lot and the court awards a tiny fraction of that. Brmull (talk) 06:08, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brmull, no problem, I got tired of seeing the confusion and basically just translated the Italian article and found some references to add. The issue about money being awarded - I'll do some research when I have some time and see what I can find. I suspect this is connected to how the Italian justice system deals with restitution for victims of crime, rather than this specific charge. From what I can find in the Italian Penal Code calunnia does not specify a monetary penalty - unlike with ingiuria and diffamazione which both specify minimum and maximum fines.
