Discussion[edit]

I added a bunch of stuff from Microsoft.com and the C-Net article. Someone please clean this up? --Sbroadwe 16:23, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question and Update Request 03 May 2020 This article is out of date / missing some new information. B. Kevin Turner is currently the CEO of Core Scientific, and also sits on the board of EdgeConneX, which was bought by EQT Infrastructure. He also currently lives in Jackson Hole, WY. I tried to edit the page, but my updates were rejected. Is there a better way to get the page updated? My updates consist of: 1. Updating the 1st paragraph to: B. Kevin Turner (born April 3, 1965) is an American businessman and investor who is currently the CEO of Core Scientific,[1] a technology company specializing in Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence. He currently serves as chairman of Zayo Group and the vice chairman of Albertsons/Safeway Inc.[2] He previously served as the COO of Microsoft from 2005 to 2016.[3] Prior to joining Microsoft, Turner was the CEO of Sam's Club and the CIO of Walmart.[4] He is also the former Vice Chairman of Citadel LLC and CEO of Citadel Securities.[5]

As the chief operating officer of Microsoft, Turner was responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Microsoft's worldwide sales, field marketing and services organization (SMSG).[6] He also managed support and partner channels, Microsoft on-line stores, and corporate support functions including information technology, licensing and pricing, and operations.[7] His organization included over 51,000 employees in more than 190 countries.[8]

2. Update the infobox with:

  - updated photo: https://www.corescientific.com/hubfs/CoreScientific_September2020/images/Kevin-Turner-bw.jpg
  - Add EdgeConneX under 'Board Member of' section

3. Under Career, add a new section for Core Scientific:

CEO of Core Scientific (2018-Present)[edit]

In July 2018, Turner became President and CEO of Core Scientific[9], an Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain technology company headquartered in Bellevue, WA. Under his leadership, Core Scientific has become the largest Blockchain hosting and digital currency mining company in North America[10], while developing best-in-class AI Software and Platform for large enterprises.

4. Under Boards and other roles:

  - remove the section on Core Scientific (now it's own section above)
  - Add a new section for EdgeConneX:

Turner joined the Board of Directors of EdgeConneX, an Operator of hyperscale and edge data centers, in December of 2020. EdgeConneX was acquired by EQT Infrastructure in August of 2020[11].

5. Update to Personal life: Turner lives in Jackson Hole, WY.

Are these updates possible?

Advertising issues[edit]

Since Skyyeee keeps removing the advertising template, I will explain the issue here. Please either fully address these issues or discuss here before removing it again.

As one example, the #Career section (which is the bulk of the article) includes excessive levels of promotional detail which would only be of interest to a very small audience. By including this information, we are implying that his work here was encyclopedically significant far above and beyond what is supported by context or sources. Saying Turner was hired at Microsoft to instill more process and discipline in the company’s operations and salesforce, which at the time did not even have quarterly notes is using editorializing language to imply something flattering which is completely inappropriate. The section also uses a number of obsequious buzzwords and vapid biz-speak. Examples include "spearheaded", the gratuitous use of the term "leadership", "served as" (instead of "was"), "leading", etc.

Fiddling about with churnalism and press releases will not solve this problem. The article will need a more comprehensive rewrite to meet Wikipedia's formal tone guidelines. Grayfell (talk) 02:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Grayfell,

I removed all of the content that you just mentioned. I think the article meets the guidelines. Please let me know if I missed anything. I am new to Wikipedia so still learning the ropes. Thank you! Skyyeee (talk) 08:03, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No you didn't remove all of it, not even close. This effort was far too timid, and your strange insistence on removing the advertising tag taints your claims to have chosen this article at random. There is still far too much "puff" here. You have not removed the excessive details, nor rewritten the buzzwordy PR-style writing. Since you don't seem to understand the problem, perhaps you can either ask questions instead of repeating the same aggressively promotional action over and over, or you could consider that you are not the person to solve this issue.
