Generic trademark?[edit]

In Dutch, there isn't even a word for "teleprompter", everybody calls such systems "autocue". I wasn't even aware "autocue" is actually a brand until I read this article! Are there also other languages where "autocue" became a generic trademark? W3ird N3rd (talk) 17:17, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. English. It's a generic trademark in English, too. English also has no word for "Teleprompter," and neither does any other language, because it's a modern invention. "Teleprompter" is itself a genericized trademark. In North America, we use "teleprompter," in the UK, they use "autocue," and in other parts of the Anglosphere, they use one or the other or both. The inclusion of Dutch in this article is bizarre and irrelevant. 2600:8806:9004:1B00:A1F8:1D2B:6833:F7C5 (talk) 14:36, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
